The president of Ascension Parish is hailing the upcoming construction of Hyundai’s new steel mill. President Clint Cointment (QUINT-maw) says the new steel mill will create 14-hundred direct jobs and more than four-thousand indirect jobs, benefitting many other companies in the region as well.

An Abbeville man is cited for allegedly killing a black bear in Vermilion Parish. The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says 50-year-old Shannon Parker admitted to shooting at a dark silhouette, thinking it was a wild hog and not the ten-year-old 200-pound female bear that she actually was. Corporal Derek Logan says Parker also lacked written permission to hunt at night and failed to notify the Sheriff’s Office.

Last weekend, a vendor at the Louisiana Crawfish Festival was caught selling crawfish imported from China without a sign at the booth indicating so. Organizer Cisco Gonzales says the issue was rectified quickly, and he’s going to push for the festival to require that only Louisiana-harvested crawfish can be sold from now on.

Seafood festival organizers are taking a more proactive approach amid a new state law that requires restaurants and vendors to clearly indicate whether the seafood they sell is imported. Last weekend, a vendor at the Louisiana Crawfish Festival in Chalmette was caught selling crawfish imported from China without a sign at the booth. Organizer Cisco Gonzales says it’s possible that it was an honest oversight by a vendor who didn’t know about the new law.

The St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two passengers in the vehicle that fatally struck Sergeant Grant Candies during a high-speed chase early Sunday morning. The driver of that vehicle was arrested earlier.  All three suspects are facing murder charges…all three are also seventeen years old.

Logan says the bear was killed by a high-power rifle near Palmetto State Park around March 1^st. Logan says Parker told investigators he shot at a dark silhouette that he believed was a wild hog. Parker now faces hundreds of dollars in fines, possibly jail time and civil restitution totaling 10-thousand dollars for replacing the bear.

The Lady Tigers are headed back to the Sweet 16.  They beat Florida State 101-71 last night.  Coach Kim Mulkey says her bench players like Jada Richard  came through when the team needed them in the first half…and Richard on what that was like..

A major announcement by Hyundai – the first steel plant it’s building in North America will be going up in Ascension Parish. President Trump made the announcement at the White House yesterday.

The 5.8-billion-dollar steel plant will be built in Donaldsonville, and construction is slated to begin in the third quarter next year. The steel production plant is expected to create more than 13-hundred direct jobs.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation has installed 28 new closed-circuit television cameras along I-10 from Lake Charles to Scott. John Guidroz with DOTD says these cameras will expand public access to live-stream traffic coverage of I-10 in southwest Louisiana….

LSU Health Shreveport says 152 of its medical school graduates will stay in Louisiana. Spokesperson Lisa Babin says retaining students in Louisiana for a residency is critical for addressing the state’s projected physician shortfall…

LSU Health New Orleans says 50-percent of its medical graduates will stay in Louisiana for residency training.

A Baton Rouge state judge has dismissed former LSU football coach Les Miles’ lawsuit against LSU, the NCAA and the National Football Foundation over a decision to vacate 37 wins from his tenure. The wins were taken away because the father of former LSU offensive lineman Vadal Alexander received 180-thousand dollars from a booster. Because the wins were vacated, Miles’ winning percentage is .597, just below the 600 mark needed to be considered for the College Football Hall of Fame.

A five-point-eight billion dollar steel plant is coming to Louisiana.  Hyundai Motor Group, which also owns Kia Corporation plans to build the new manufacturing facility on a 17-hundred acre site in Donaldsonville. Just a few months ago, Landry announced that Meta is building an artificial intelligence data center in Richland Parish and an LNG facility in Plaquemines Parish is receiving an 18-billion dollar expansion. Governor Jeff Landry says this is just the start…

The ultra-low carbon steel production plant is expected to create more than 13-hundred direct new jobs.

Two more 17-year-olds are facing first-degree murder charges in the Sunday’s death of St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Sergeant Grant Candies. Candies was killed when the 17-year-old driver, Adrian Waughtal, struck and killed Candies as he was deploying a spike strip in an effort to stop Waughtal’s vehicle who was fleeing from a deputy attempting to initiate a traffic stop. Waughtal was the driver and the two other 17-year-olds were passengers in the vehicle.

650 fourth-year medical students in Louisiana found out on Friday where they’ll perform their residency and 34-percent were matched with programs in Louisiana. LSU Health Shreveport spokesperson Lisa Babin says 96-percent of their med students got matched in the program…

Last Friday, nearly 36-thousand students from coast to coast received their matches. Lisa Babin with LSU Health Shreveport says the school celebrated as students discovered their placements.

Three players from the LSU men’s basketball team—Tyrell Ward, Corey Chest, and Mike Williams — have entered the transfer portal.

LSU Gymnastics earned its first-ever number one seed in the NCAA Championships. The Tigers will compete in the Penn State Regional on April 3^rd.

LSU baseball stumbled six spots in the D-1 baseball poll to number eight after losing its first series of the season to Texas.

LSU hosts the Ragin Cajuns tonight. Last weekend U-L Lafayette took two of three from South Alabama to improve to 3-and-3 in Sun Belt play. Louisiana Tech fresh off a series win against Sam Houston hosts Grambling tonight. The Tigers won two of three from Texas Southern last weekend and scored 46 runs.

A player that is making an impact on LSU’s offense during spring practice is. tight end Bauer Sharp who was Oklahoma’s leading receiver last season.  Coach Brian Kelly says Sharp is a good fit in the locker room and on the field…
