Two of the students involved in the alleged hazing death of Max Gruver have pleaded no contest, and a third has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in a move that narrows the scope of the trial. 20-year-old Matthew Naquin still faces negligent homicide charges. Pleading no contest will prevent the charges from being brought up in the pending civil case where the Gruver family sued LSU, the Fraternity, the defendants, and other for 25 million dollars, but Legal analyst Tim Meche says that’s not likely to hurt the family’s chances in the civil proceedings.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says their enforcement agents issued 39 citations to 29 subjects over the Labor Day weekend for alleged dove baiting. L-D-W-F spokesperson Adam Einck says  it’s illegal to  scatter salt, grain or other feed on a field to attract migratory game birds..

Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette says the SEC will require that they be in place at every gate by 2020….

There’s been a major change in the scope of the prosecution of three students who were allegedly involved in Max Gruver’s hazing death last year. Sean-Paul Gott and Ryan Isto plead no contest to misdemeanor hazing, while Patrick Forde agreed to cooperate with prosecutors, and will have his case decided later. 20-year-old Matthew Naquin still faces negligent homicide charges. Legal analyst Tim Meche says it’s a good turn of events for the three defendants not charged with Negligent Homicide.

The corner attributed Gruver’s death to alcohol poisoning, as well as aspiration due to choking on vomit.

LSU fans can expect a new layer of security when attending games at Tiger Stadium as select gates will now be equipped with metal detectors.  LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette says upon completion of a bag inspection, fans will then go through the additional screening.

It appears LSU has a kicker they can count on this season. Cole Tracy hit all four of his field goal attempts in Sunday’s win over Miami, including a 54-yarder that tied a school record. Before he arrived at LSU, Tracy kicked at Division Two Assumption College in Massachusetts. Tracy says kicking in front of a much bigger crowd didn’t psych him out…

ULM looks to improve to 2-0 on the season when they visit Southern Miss on Saturday. The Warhawks beat Southeastern Louisiana 34-31 last Thursday as ULM had 554 total yards. But Coach Matt Viator says there’s room for improvement

Legal analyst Tim Meche says the development is a blow to Naquin’s defense, but could be used by a skillful defense lawyer.

Gruver died last year in the alleged hazing incident at the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity house. Several hours after his time of death he blew a .495.

A 26-year-old Pineville man has been ssentenced to five years in prison for his role in a May 2016 crash that killed his 16-year-old passenger, Chloe James. Micah Baden was initially hit with a litany of charges including Possession, Vehicular Homicide, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and more, but plead no contest. At the end of the proceedings, both he and James’ family spoke about the trauma.

The Texas man charged with negligent homicide in the suspected hazing death of LSU student Maxwell Gruver was told by other members of the Phi Delta Theta to stop shooting pledges with an airsoft gun. That’s according to new court records filed in the case. Matthew Alexander Naquin also allegedly had reckless interactions with pledges before Gruver’s death.

Two months from today, voters will cast ballots in the special election for Secretary of State. The race has been quiet and political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the candidates are struggling to raise campaign cash…

LSU has adopted an admission policy that will no longer reject a student just because he or she scores 21 or lower on the ACT. LSU Vice President of Enrollment Jose Aviles says they are taking a more holistic review of those students and they’ll also consider the student’s entire profile, which includes activities outside of school and recommendation letters. Aviles says they are already seeing positive results….

Lee has this advice for the public…
