Drew Brees heads into tonight’s game against Washington just 201 yards shy of the all-time passing yards record. Brees’ first NFL experience was a 2001 preseason game in Miami, where he says he stared starry-eyed up into the rafters at the passing records held by Dan Marino, who then held the all-time passing yards record. He says he never could have imagined one day that might be him.

State Police has released new details in the officer-involved shooting that killed 23-year-old Coltin LeBlanc of Loranger in downtown Hammond in the early morning hours of September 27th. State Police Lt. Nick Manale says they interviewed witnesses at the scene shortly after the shooting, and are analyzing the officer’s body camera to put together a report on what occurred that night.

Louisiana appears to be out of the path of Hurricane Michael.  The storm may have a dangerous impact on the Florida Panhandle with storm surge, heavy rainfall, and hurricane-force winds.  As far as an effect on Louisiana, National Weather Service New Orleans Meteorologist Bridgette Lim says Michael is heading north now but anticipates it being pushed off the wall of an oncoming cold front that is moving the storm to the east.

Governor John Bel Edwards has declared a water emergency in the Concordia Parish town of Clayton after learning that the water systems contractor had quit because of a lack of payment.  Mayor Josephine Washington says she’s pitched that the town goes to a three day work week as well as says she’ll take a pay cut.

LSP has released new details in the officer-involved shooting that killed 23-year-old Coltin LeBlanc in downtown Hammond in the early morning hours of September 27th.Witnesses say LeBlanc’s truck peeled out and sped off down the street during his interaction with the as of now unnamed trooper. One Hammond resident says he saw the officer attach himself to the truck as it drove away, and a few moments later, heard shots fired, but State Police Lt. Nick Manale says the investigation into those events is still ongoing.

If Brees eclipses the record, the game will be stopped to recognize the achievement, unless New Orleans is in a hurry up offense or its a critical point of the game. Kick-off is at 7:15. A win for the Saints and they remain in first place in the NFC South a half game ahead of Carolina who beat the Giants 33-31 yesterday.

The Fighting Tigers fell eight spots to number 13 in this week’s AP Top 25 poll after losing to Florida 27-19 on Saturday in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. LSU gave up five sacks, allowed 215 rushing yards, Quarterback Joe Burrow threw two interceptions, missed on a couple of deep balls and there were dropped passes. Louisiana pro-life advocates are celebrating the ascension of Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court. With his appointment, the conservative bloc now commands a five to four majority on the nation’s highest court. But Louisiana Right to Life Executive Director Ben Clapper says the end of Roe vs. Wade may not solely come down to Justice Brett Kavanaugh. He says there are some concerns that Chief Justice John Roberts, given his past record, could backtrack on his support for Pro-Life bills.

The November election to crown a new Secretary of State is less than a month away, but you may not have noticed with a lack of campaigning from the candidates.  Political Analyst Bernie Pinsonat says in comparison to other statewide races, this special election isn’t seeing a long-term build-up to Election Day.

Elsehwere, ULM fell to Ole Miss, while Louisiana Tech lost to Conference USA foe UAB 28-7.

With the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, the nation’s highest court now has a conservative working majority, as Kavanaugh replaces a more moderate justice, Anthony Kennedy. This could lead to a restriction in abortion rights. But Louisiana Right to Life executive director Ben Clapper says nothing is guaranteed until a Justice makes its first ruling….
