Department of Education spokesperson Sydni Dunn says with only 7 seats available for each of the next three semesters, space is limited but she hopes funding will increase once they get a chance to demonstrate how effective the program can be…

Political strategist Mary-Patricia Wray spoke of the possibility of US Senator John Kennedy challenging Edwards, saying that she believes Kennedy has wanted to be governor for a long time, and that this may be his only remaining opportunity.

Wray expects that Republican voters will likely be ready to have a clearer picture of their voting options by the holidays.

The Department of Education has released an application that will allow public school teachers to enroll in college courses at the state’s expense. Department of Education spokesperson Sydni Dunn says equipping teachers in STEM courses is paramount as new skills obtained by teachers will immediately trickle down to the students, and offering the classes could lead to better teacher retention rates…

Tulane Assistant professor Dr. Brent Goehring says that they will be drilling deep into the ice to find rocks that used to be exposed to the atmosphere for thousands of years. He says they will be observing the effects of cosmic rays from outer space on those rocks and using that information to predict new sea level changes…

Details are beginning to emerge about a SWEPCO employee who passed away while on the job. A spokesperson for the energy company, Carey Sullivan, says the longtime employee has been identified as 42-year-old William Tommy Lawrence.

In Sports Croatia’s dream of a world cup appearance has come true as they defeated England 2 to 1 yesterday to advance to the finals against France. Ivan Peristic tied the score in the 68th minute and Mario Mandzukic got the go-ahead goal in the 109th minute. The final is 10 a.m. on Sunday.

In Tennis at Wimbledon top seeded Roger Federer was but one single point away from victory against Kevin Anderson, to reach the quarterfinals, but amazingly Federer ended up losing the match in 5 sets taking 4 hours 14 minutes.

McKinley High in Baton Rouge is said to be the recipient of the largest fine in LHSAA history. The Panthers program was hit with nearly 42-thousand dollars in fines and a two year post season ban on ALL sports. The sanctions were for a number of violations across several sports.

Houston Astros’s third baseman and former LSU standout alex bregman wll be participating in the Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby on Monday. Bregman will face Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber in the first round in Washington.

The Philadelphia Phillies has adjusted their pitching rotation to allow ace Aaron Nola to pitch in the all-star game. Nola is a former LSU standout and will move up one day so he can pitch in the all-star game. Nola has had a stellar year posting a 2.27 ERA with 126 strikeouts and leads the National league in wins with 12.

Former Louisiana State Police Superintendent Mike Edmonson, who’s under federal investigation, has been subpoenaed to testify at a hearing his week involving troopers who are appealing demotions and reprimands they received for taking a tax payer funded adventure to Vegas. Legal Analyst Tim Meche says ven if the troopers can prove that Edmondson signed off on the excursion, it might not be enough to reverse the disciplinary action taken against them.

The troopers claim to have text messages saved that show Edmonson was aware and permitting of the trip throughout the duration that they were gone.

The family of a murdered New Orleans teenager chose a unique manner to honor his memory by displaying his body as he lived: playing video games and surrounded by snacks.  The images of the teen’s wake are spreading across the internet.  Embalmer and Funeral Director for Charbonnet Funeral Home, Stephanie Simon, says the family was happy with the presentation of the teen and she says others have shown up after seeing the story online.
