The rainfall will reach coastal parishes of southeast Louisiana on Wednesday.

The EPA has approved two State Implementation Plans that will reduce sulfur dioxide emissions. The first addresses emissions at Cabot Corporation’s Ville Platte carbon black plant. State Department of Environmental Quality administrator Jason Meyers says their submitted plan proves the area will reach attainment with EPA standards, leaving one non-attainment area in Louisiana in St. Bernard Parish. Meyers says work has been underway there as well.

The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission has a stern message for all you kamikaze drivers out there. Andrew Greenstein reports.

Some key LSU contributors are expected back from injury including Linebacker Whit Weeks who suffered a broken fibula and dislocated ankle in the Tigers’ New Year’s Eve bowl game versus Baylor. His linebacking partner, Harold Perkins, suffered a season-ending ACL injury against UCLA in week four. After a true freshman All-American season in 2022, Perkins struggled with position changes and then injury. Head coach Brian Kelly says Perkins will be ready for the start of camp back at his old position of outside linebacker.

The National Hurricane Center says there is a medium chance for a tropical depression to form near Louisiana’s southeast coast later this week. LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says its ability to organize into a named storm will depend on how long the center of the storm stays over water before making landfall along the northern Gulf coast. He says they are not expecting this system to develop into a hurricane.

The EPA approves two State Implementation Plans aimed at reducing sulfur dioxide emissions. One plan is called an “infrastructure SIP.” State Department of Environmental Quality administrator Jason Meyers says it’s a necessary first step when an EPA standard changes.

The roadways are not your place to train for the next NASCAR race – chill out and slow down! That’s the stern message from the The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. Greg Fischer with the LHSC says that doesn’t mean driving at a snail’s pace, either.

In 2023, speed was a factor in 30-percent of all deadly crashes in Louisiana.

LSU is expecting the return of some key contributors on both sides of the ball from injury. Linebacker Whit Weeks suffered a broken fibula and dislocated ankle in the Tigers’ New Year’s Eve bowl game versus Baylor. At SEC Media Days yesterday, he said he’ll be good to go for camp.

State Department of Environmental Quality administrator Jason Meyers says the plant is redesigning and reconstructing a large portion of the plant to bring Evangeline Parish into compliance with EPA standards.

A named storm in the Gulf of Mexico by Thursday is a possibility. Jeff Palermo reports regardless of development, heavy rainfall is expected in Louisiana.

Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee and Texas will take the stage at SEC Football Media Days today. Yesterday, Garrett Nussmeier spoke about the expectations for his second year as a starter. He’s the nation’s only returning 4,000-yard passer, but with a year’s worth of film to review, he’s been looking for ways to improve. The gunslinger threw 12 interceptions last year and says he can take better care of the football.

When it was all said and done, nine tigers were taken in the MLB Draft. Pitcher Zac Cowan announced he will be returning for his senior season in Baton Rouge after going undrafted. The same goes for infielder Tanner Reaves. Center Fielder Chris Stanfield went undrafted but has made no indication whether or not he’ll return for a final season in Baton Rouge.

Tulane right-hander Michael Lombardi was selected 61st overall by the Royals Sunday. Green Wave lefty Tayler Montiel was selected by the Diamondbacks in the 12th round, and infielder Connor Rasmussen went to the Royals in the 15th.

Southeastern catcher Conner O’Neal was picked by the Dodgers in the ninth round, and right-hander Brennan Stuprich went to the Yankees in the 14th.

Louisiana Tech righty reliever Logan Forsythe was picked in the 13th round by the Braves. Forsythe led the Bulldogs with 71 strikeouts and becomes coach Lane Burrough’s 13th drafted player.

Southern outfielder Cardell Thibodeaux was selected by the Padres in the 16th round. Thibodeaux was the SWAC Player of the Year this season and had recently entered the transfer portal.

The Saints released a teaser for what appears to be a new jersey set to be released July 22. New Orleans announced a new white alternate helmet to go with the color rush jersey last week. The teaser video shows defensive end Cam Jordan opening a glowing gold duffel bag with the throwback thin black fleur-de-lis which was used until the 2000s on the side.  Jordan has been a vocal advocate for the return of the 2002 gold jerseys. The new threads will replace the current throwback alternate.

Southeast Louisiana is under a flood watch from tomorrow afternoon through late Friday night.

There’s concern about rural hospitals in the wake of the passage of the tax and spending bill in Congress. But Jeff Reynolds, the executive director of the Louisiana Rural Hospital Coalition, says none are in danger of closing because the cuts don’t kick in right away.

Reynolds says nearly all rural hospitals in the state are in good financial health currently.

State officials announce LA Wallet is accepted at TSA checkpoints nationwide. Colleen Crain has more.

There are reports of heavy law enforcement in Baton Rouge and Oakdale this morning. In Baton Rouge, authorities are stationed at a hotel where the Louisiana Chiefs of Police Conference was being held. Federal officials say its court-authorized law enforcement activity, but no other details have been released.

Louisiana National Guard Training Center Pineville is being renamed back to Camp Beauregard after Battle of New Orleans veteran Captain Jacques Toutant Beauregard. It was previously named after Confederate General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard until the name was changed in 2022. Lieutenant Colonel Noel Collins says the restoration honors Louisiana history.

After Shreveport Republican Senator Alan Seabaugh ripped Governor Landry on KEEL radio last week, the governor went on its morning show to give his response. Seabaugh especially had some choice words over Landry using his line-item veto power to scrap four of his projects. Landry says there simply wasn’t enough money for all the projects the legislature gave him.

Landry, meanwhile, said yesterday that Office of Motor Vehicles Director Bryan Adams and his team have made upgrades to the OMV computer system to prevent the service disruptions that hampered the agency earlier this year.

Governor Landry fires back – albeit respectfully – at fellow Republican Alan Seabaugh in an interview on KEEL radio. This, after Seabaugh went on that station to say that Landry was not doing a good job as governor. Landry said he knows why Seabaugh’s mad.

The State Capitol will soon get an exterior makeover. Governor Landry and state lawmakers have set aside almost 32-million dollars to waterproof the outside of the building and give it a good, thorough cleaning. The Capitol was completed in 1932 after just 14 months of construction.

Now the training center will be named after Captain Jacques Toutant Beauregard, a member of the Louisiana Milita who fought in the 1815 Battle of New Orleans.

Louisiana Tech is Sun Belt-bound after school leaders voted Monday to invite the Bulldogs. Tech replaces Texas State as the Bobcats head to the PAC-12, but Sun Belt East schools preferred expansion into a new market over a third Louisiana program. But Locked On Sun Belt Podcast host Dave Schultz says most of the conference’s recent additions have been in the east.

Louisiana Tech would give the Sun Belt 14 schools. An official announcement from Tech and the Sun Belt is expected in the next day or so.

LSU had five more players selected during the second day of the Major League Baseball Draft. Daniel Dickinson went in the sixth round to the Brewers. The Pittsburgh Pirates picked Jared Jones in the ninth round. Also going in the ninth round, relief pitcher Jacob Mayers to the Red Sox. Monroe native Kade Woods went in the 10th round to Atlanta and Conner Ware was drafted in the 15th round by the Mets. Zac Cowan was not drafted so he’ll return for his senior season.
