A now-former principal and assistant football coach at Hamilton Christian School in Lake Charles are among three arrested in an investigation into hazing within the football team. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory says Principal Morgan Daugherty and Coach Dominique Washington failed to report the incidents, which he said crossed the line into sexual assault.

A former school cook, Stacy Bargeman, is also arrested for allegedly sending threatening messages about the investigation.

Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin was grilled by reporters about his future during the SEC football coaches weekly media teleconference, but Kiffin didn’t provide any new insight. Kiffin was asked if Rebels athletics director Keith Carter has given him an ultimatum to decide on where he plans to coach next season, whether it’s at Ole Miss, LSU or Florida.

Lincoln Parish is mourning the death of Ruston Fire Department Chief Chris Womack, who died at the age of 54 after a brief battle with cancer.  Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker appointed Womack as fire chief in 2015 and says his leadership of that department is unparalleled.

Womack found out months ago he had cancer because of a new-mandatory state cancer screening for current and former firefighters.

Louisiana is approved for almost 1.36-billion dollars in federal funding to expand broadband internet access across the state. Veneeth Iyengar, the executive director of Connect-L-A, says it’s a major milestone for the state’s GUMBO 2.0 program.

A bill to force the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files is now on President Trump’s desk. This, after the House and Senate overwhelmingly voted in favor of forcing their release. During floor debate, Speaker Mike Johnson said even though he had planned to vote “yes,” it was nothing but a show vote by the Democrats.

Louisiana is the first state in the country to be approved for almost 1.36-billion dollars in federal funding to expand broadband internet access across the state. Veneeth Iyengar, the executive director of Connect-L-A, says it will allow the state to provide everyone with reliable, cost-effective high-speed internet.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory says there was a culture on the Hamilton Christian School football team in which older players would haze the younger players, and it crossed the line into sexual assault. He says Principal Morgan Daugherty and Assistant Coach Dominique Washington knew about the incidents and, as school personnel, were required to report them to law enforcement.

Daugherty and Washington are being held on more than a million dollars bond apiece. Also, a school cook, Stacy Bargeman, was arrested for allegedly sending threatening messages about the investigation. No football players have been arrested so far.

The college football world is waiting to see what Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin will do. Will he stay at Ole Miss, leave for Florida or be hired as the next head coach at LSU. Kiffin’s ex-wife visited both Baton Rouge and Gainesville this week. Michael Katz of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal says Kiffin faced a similar decision  three years ago as he was courted by Auburn, and he won’t be hasty to make a decision.

LSU hosts Western Kentucky in the final home game of the season on Saturday. Interim head coach Frank Wilson said quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is doubtful, while linebacker Whit Weeks has a chance to play.

The Saints and receiver Brandin Cooks have parted ways and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports New Orleans is working on a deal to host a home game in Paris, France next year.

 

ULM football has lost six straight games as the Warhawks enter the last two weeks of the season. Head coach Bryant Vincent wants his team to keep fighting and believes they will persevere.

The Warhawks are on the road Saturday as they face Texas State at 4 p.m.

After dropping a close game to Nicholls this past Saturday, Northwestern State has a quick turnaround as the 1-and-10 Demons will face Stephen F. Austin tomorrow night. Coach Blaine McCorkle says, despite ten straight losses, he likes the fight his young team is showing.

Around 250 federal border agents are set to descend on New Orleans in the coming weeks for a two-month immigration crackdown dubbed “Swamp Sweep.”  NOPD Superintendent. Anne Kirkpatrick said yesterday she expects a briefing on the deployment soon.

 

While the debate over extending Affordable Care Act subsidies continues on Capitol Hill. Senator Bill Cassidy says he has a better idea – give that subsidy directly to the American people, instead of the insurance companies. The Republican Senator who’s a physician, says under his plan, the people would be in full control of their health care dollars.

Congress overwhelmingly approves a bill  to force the Justice Department to release all files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Speaker Mike Johnson resisted bringing the measure up for a vote. Johnson says there are unintended consequences of disclosing federal investigations, including information on victims…

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter the Saints are closing in on a deal that will result in them hosting a game in Paris next season. The Saints secured the rights to host games in Paris earlier this year and this would be the first-ever NFL regular season game played in Paris.

Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy, who chairs the Senate’s health committee, has a proposal that he believes would improve the Affordable Care Act. The big stalemate that led to the longest federal government shutdown in history was over Affordable Care Act tax credits that are set to expire. Democrats would like them extended, but Cassidy is proposing to redirect that money into tax-free accounts…

Xavier University has received a $38 million gift from billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.  It’s the largest private donation in the university’s history.  School officials have said the money  will create more opportunities for students to afford their education, providing them with greater support.

Speaker Mike Johnson said had resisted bringing the measure up for a vote; his hand was forced when a discharge petition sponsored by Republican Thomas Massie and Democrat Ro Khanna got the required 218 signatures. Johnson said he wants to protect the rights of the victims.

Board of Supervisors member Rico Avendia says the Corps opens up military training to the general student body, offering them valuable experience.

All eyes are on Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin right now as he’s tempted with offers from LSU, Florida and more in the middle of a great season for the Rebels. Kiffin denied reports he was given an ultimatum by Ole Miss brass, but Michael Katz of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal says there is certainly mounting urgency in Oxford to get a decision before their regular season finale in the Egg Bowl on November 28th.

Michael Katz of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal says there’s a lot of confusion around Kiffin’s future.

Kiffin was a guest on the Pat McAfee show yesterday and said it’s completely false that Ole Miss administrators have asked him to decide by next Friday on where he’ll coach next season.

LSU quarterback Michael Van Buren told reporters last night that he wants to remain an LSU Tiger and play for the new coach. Van Buren is the likely starter at quarterback this Saturday against Western Kentucky.

In basketball…LSU defeated Alcorn State 107 to 81 last night. Michael Nwoko (nuh-WOE-koe) had 29 points and nine rebounds in 20 minutes of work.

 

The Saints look to win two straight as they host the Falcons this Sunday. Starting quarterback Tyler Shough is coming off his first career win, and head coach Kellen Moore says the rookie is operating at a high level.
