Attorney General Jeff Landry sent a letter to the Louisiana State Medical Society warning doctors abortion is a crime and it has been since last Friday when the U-S Supreme Court ruled that states have the authority to outlaw abortions. Landry says a judge’s order blocking the state from enforcing an abortion ban has limited reach.

Ketanji Brown Jackson will be sworn in as a U-S Supreme Court Justice today replacing the retiring the Stephen Breyer. The nation’s highest court will determine if Louisiana’s Congressional map approved by legislators is constitutional. U-L-M Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley expects the court to rule that it does not violate the Voting Rights Act…

There are 17 new wildlife agents on the job today. They are the most recent graduates of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Law Enforcement Academy. LDWF spokesperson Adam Einck says potential agents undergo a rigorous selection process before they attend the academy.

LSU Baseball continues to add talent to its roster with the help of the transfer portal. Freshman right-hander Thatcher Hurd of UCLA confirmed that he’s transferring to LSU where he could have up to three years of eligibility. Hurd had a 1.06 ERA through 34 innings last season. His freshman campaign ended prematurely because of a stress fracture in his lower back.

LSU has also recently added North Carolina State slugger Tommy White and Baylor starting shortstop Jack Pineda. They will join Dylan Crews and Tre Morgan to help produce a formidable lineup. Pineda was a guest on Tiger Rag Radio….

Saints defensive end Payton Turner announced on Twitter that he’s been cleared for training camp after missing most of his rookie season because of a shoulder injury that required surgery. In five games last season, Turner had 12 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack.

Starting tomorrow, the Pelicans can offer forward Zion Williamson a contract extension. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has predicted Williamson would sign a max contract which would be 186-million dollars over five years. But Zion has only played in 85 games during his three seasons in New Orleans.

Dates and times will be announced at a later time, but LSU men’s basketball knows they will have home-and-home matchups with Alabama, Arkansas, Texas A-and-M, Florida and Missouri. The Tigers will also host Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt and travel to Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

After a two-year hiatus, the Essence Festival of Culture returns to New Orleans at full strength this holiday weekend. Now in its 27th year, Essence Fest is the nation’s largest music festival, regularly drawing more than half a million visitors to the city. Councilman Oliver Thomas says there’s no way to overstate its importance for the city and state.

Redman says hotel rates are up over 20-percent, restaurant dining is up over 12-percent, and airfares have increased about 14-percent. Nevertheless, he says, people are ready to get out and go after the pandemic.

A hearing scheduled for today in U-S District court was canceled as a result of the U-S Supreme Court putting a hold on a lower court ruling that said the Legislature must draw a map that allows for a Black candidate to represent two of the state’s six congressional districts. House Governmental Affairs Chairman John Stefanski says they were waiting for the Supreme Court to weigh in…

Katahaleen Pittman is the director of the Hope Medical Center for Women in Shreveport and she says they are trying to squeeze in as many appointments as they can before a July 8th court hearing…

The statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is falling slowly, down to $4.42 a gallon. The price at the pump has dropped eight cents in the last week. Redman says a dip in demand has led to lower oil prices…

LSU has added another arm to its arsenal with the announcement that former UCLA pitcher Thatcher Hurd has given his verbal commitment to join Jay Johnson’s Tigers. Hurd, a freshman right-hander, was the ninth-ranked righty in the 2022 recruiting class. His season was cut short due to a stress fracture in his lower back, but when he was on the field he was impressive, posting a 1.06 ERA over 34 innings pitched, including six starts for the Bruins. Hurd becomes the third potential starter to join the roster through the transfer portal, joining fellow right-handers Dylan Tebrake and Christian Little.

Texas A-and-M pitcher Rawley Hector has announced he’s heading to Ruston to play for Louisiana Tech next season. Coach Lane Burroughs has also named Cooper Fouts to his staff as the team’s recruiting coordinator as well as pitching and catching coordinator.

Tulane loses sophomore closer, Zach DeVito, to Georgia. DeVito was 4-1 with nine saves for the Green Wave last season. However freshman outfielder Jackson Linn confirmed he has withdrawn his name from the portal and will stay with the team.

The New Orleans Pelicans have announced their roster for the upcoming NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Aside from new draftees Dyson Daniels, EJ Liddell, and Karlo Matkovic, veterans Jose Alvarado, Trey Murphy III, Naji Marshall, and Jared Harper will be among those competing in the desert from July 7-17. Last summer, the Pels went a perfect 5-0, outscoring opponents by an average of nearly 15 points per game. Their performance was seen as a springboard for a rookie class that went on to be major contributors during the season.

LSU basketball coach Matt McMahon has received his first SEC basketball schedule, with the 18-game slate released Wednesday. Six of those games come against permanent home-and-home foes Alabama, Arkansas, and Texas A-and-M. The Tigers also play series against Florida and Missouri this season. Their home schedule rounds out with Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. LSU goes on the road to face Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. Dates and times will be announced later this summer.

Louisiana has a high maternal mortality rate and the leading cause of death for pregnant women is murder.

Baton Rouge Senator Cleo Fields, a supporter of a second-majority Black district, is hopeful the nation’s highest court will see the approved Congressional map violates the Voting Rights Act…

The Secretary of State is moving forward with using the map approved in February by the Republican-led Legislature for the fall Congressional elections.

Delhi police are investigating a potentially disturbing incident at Delhi High School, where a noose was found lying on the stage of its auditorium. Chief Roy Williams says it was discovered by a custodian who notified the Superintendent of Schools. Williams then visited the school personally to assess the situation.

The suspect is one of the contractors working on renovations at the school, and because of that video cameras within the auditorium were deactivated, leaving no footage of what happened. Chief Williams says the next steps will be taken by the District Attorney’s office.

The incident has been met with outrage among members of the Delhi community. Nooses have long been a symbol of hatred towards Black Americans, and though the contractor says it was “unintentional,” Chief Williams says it is his obligation to provide as much information as possible for the DA to make a determination of just what happened and what should happen.

Richland Parish Superintendent Sheldon Jones said that the RPSB will cooperate fully with law enforcement during the investigation.

We’re starting to see a slow decline, not as fast as it surged but a decline nonetheless in prices at the pump. And while the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas is $4.43, Triple A fuel analyst Don Redman says it looks like we’ll continue to see a small break-even though prices remain above $4.00 a gallon.

But Redman says the decline in gas prices will be short-lived. He expects them to climb again towards the end of July, or the first of August because refineries will close down for maintenance thus reducing supply.

Redman says with crude oil prices averaging $110 a barrel as opposed to $125, that’s a reason for the slight decline in prices.

The national average for a gallon of regular gas is $4.87.

The current statewide average for a gallon of diesel is $5.35.
