Baton Rouge Police seek an angry customer who shot a restaurant worker for messing up his order. BRPD’s Sgt. L’Jean (EL-jeen) McKneely says the customer confronted the employee outside the Freddie’s Frozen Custard; just off I-12…:

The victim is expected to recover. McKneely says the suspect is still at large.

Construction has begun on elevating a long stretch of LA 1, from the Leeville Bridge all the way to Golden Meadow; a major route to Port Fourchon and Grand Isle. LA1 Coalition director Henri Boulet says it’s been decades coming. He says LA1 closures due to hurricanes and fierce weather have cost millions in lost energy production, and elevating the roadway will virtually end closures…:

The project should be finished sometime in 2027.

GOHSEP launches a program to help Hurricane Ida survivors who have exhausted all their avenues in recovery but still need assistance. Spokesperson Mike Steele says the Disaster Case Management Program connects case managers to those who have unmet needs.

The is website GetAGamePlan.org then forward slash Ida-D-C-M-P.  The Disaster Case Management Program is funded by FEMA. Steele says there’s a reason it wasn’t set up sooner as to give insurance companies time to answer claims.

Steele says the website also has a general questionnaire about one’s recovery status which helps the state and FEMA gauge recovery as we approach the year anniversary of Ida. Steele says for example someone’s home is now livable, but their appliances were destroyed.

Twenty-five parishes were declared federal disaster areas following Hurricane Ida.

The Louisiana Department of Health has reported the state’s first positive case of West Nile Virus in a human this year. State epidemiologist Theresa Sokol says the risk for West Nile is higher than normal, with 175 mosquito pools indicating the presence of the virus, compared to 13 a year ago, so preventative measures are a must.

LDH advises doing what you can around your home to keep it mosquito-proof by eliminating standing water, keeping your gutters clean, changing the water in birdbaths regularly, and keeping your swimming pool properly cleaned. And when you are outside…

Sokol says those who are over the age of 60 and individuals with pre-existing medical conditions carry the highest amount of risk for developing the more severe infection, West Nile Encephalitis, which can result in hospitalization and the potential for death or severe brain damage.

The state department of transportation says over 13-hundred trucks and heavy vehicles travel the LA 1 southern corridor daily to support port activity and energy production, but it’s often closed for several days after tropical storms and hurricanes.

Shreveport Police say a woman wanted for stealing a lot of money from an animal adoption & rescue charity is now in custody. SPD says 32-year-old Kaliegh Knebl took over $35-thousand from Parish Paws. Aware she was wanted, she turned herself in this morning.

One of those newcomers, former Baylor shortstop Jack Pineda, told Tiger Rag Radio he chose the Tigers because he wanted to compete with and against the very best players in the nation.

Freshman right-hander Thatcher Hurd of UCLA confirmed that he’s transferring to LSU where he could have up to three years of eligibility. Hurd had a 1.06 ERA through 34 innings last season. Meanwhile, redshirt junior utility man Drew Bianco has entered the transfer portal, the 10th player to do so.

The Pelicans will introduce rookies Dyson Daniels and EJ Liddell this afternoon during a press conference at the team’s headquarters in Metairie. Daniels was taken with the eighth pick in last week’s NBA Draft and Liddell, expected to go in the first round, fell into the Pelicans’ laps at pick 41.

NBA free agency begins tomorrow, and the Pels are expected to offer Zion Williamson a five-year extension worth up to $186 million. Williamson has said that signing a new deal is a “no-brainer,” however, VP of basketball operations David Griffin has said there are details to be worked out; including just how much of the extension will be guaranteed.

Since being taken with the number one overall selection in the 2019 draft, Zion has played in just 85 of a possible 226 games in his career. The Pelicans have until mid-October to finalize a deal with Williamson.

LSU will welcome Louisiana Tech to Tiger Stadium on Sept. 6, 2025. The Bulldogs will receive a $1.6 million guarantee for the game. It will be the first meeting between the programs since 2018, a 38-21 victory for the Tigers.

Attorney General Jeff Landry sent a letter to the Louisiana State Medical Society warning doctors’ abortion is a crime and it has been since last Friday when the U-S Supreme Court ruled that states have the authority to outlaw abortions. Landry says a judge’s order blocking the state from enforcing an abortion ban has limited reach.

Despite high gasoline costs and increased prices for food and lodging, over 47 million Americans are expected to travel this Independence Day weekend. AAA spokesperson Don Redman says that estimate reflects the second-busiest July 4th weekend since the year 2000. He says a great many will be on the highways…:

After a two-year hiatus, Essence Fest returns to New Orleans at full strength this holiday weekend. Now in its 27th year, Essence Fest is the nation’s largest music festival, regularly drawing more than half a million visitors to the city. Louisiana will go forward this year with a Congressional election where the map that will determine district boundaries is under review by the U-S Supreme Court. ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says this is not the first time there’s been a court battle over Louisiana’s Congressional map…

Stockley says a ruling from the U-S Supreme Court on Louisiana’s map might not come down until next summer.

There are 17 new wildlife agents on the job today, they are the most recent graduates of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Law Enforcement Academy. LDWF spokesperson Adam Einck says it’s an ideal profession individuals who enjoy hunting, fishing, boating, or hiking.
