Members scolded the utility for relying mostly on natural gas, and also questioned its president’s $17 million dollar salary. This week Entergy announced it would take measures to reduce bills like waiving credit card and late fees.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy says infrastructure dollars are making their way to Louisiana. Cassidy says over the last several months it’s been announced that millions of dollars are coming to the Bayou State for a variety of infrastructure projects.

The state’s senior senator was among the group of ten bipartisan lawmakers who guided the infrastructure bill through congress last year.

Cassidy says the Baton Rouge Airport will receive $5.2-million and the Lake Charles Airport will receive $2.5 million from the American Rescue Plan.

Another issue Cassidy says he plans to support is legislation concerning the duplication of benefits from the 2016 flood. The bill has passed in the House and the new legislation will provide aid for remaining flood victims who were not previously helped.

Louisiana U.S. Senator John Kennedy rails on record-high energy costs and the White House policies that he says got us there. Kennedy says there has been a drastic turnaround in America’s energy sector and the economy in general under the current administration in Washington D.C….:

Kennedy says the relative prosperity and low costs of fuel and utilities from just two years ago can return, but not if President Biden continues to (quoting) “double down on his bone-deep, down-to-the-marrow foolish energy policy”, which he sums up like this…:

Kennedy says the run-up of gasoline, diesel fuel, and utility costs – and hence the costs of everything else – started after Biden entered office and enacted executive orders to impede domestic oil & gas production. Entergy Louisiana officials tell PSC members the company has made a $10-million donation to an organization that helps pay utilities for low-income individuals. But as power prices soar, PSC member Foster Campbell criticized the utility provider for giving its chairman a one-million dollar raise.

Entergy went before the state Public Service Commission again today, to answer questions about record-high utility bills that are plaguing customers already facing record-high inflation. Entergy CEO Phillip May says, to help, they will waive late pay fees and credit card payment fees, and…:

PSC member Foster Campbell says Entergy is getting very rich during this crisis and needs to do more. Campbell also feels utilities need to compete for your business. Right now, they do not.

Lafayette Police identify the man whose body was found Tuesday night in the Vermillion River. They says 74-year-old David Mayeaux fell into the water and drowned. His death has been ruled accidental.

The Department of Health reports just over 2000 new cases of COVID, with 732 in the hospital with symptoms. They report 9 COVID-related deaths since Monday.

 

A Shreveport man is behind bars, after Caddo Deputies found hundreds of child porn images on his computer and devices. 25-year-old Glenderek Merritt faces 200 counts of possessing the illicit images. The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be coming for Merritt.

A St. John Parish deputy is credited with saving a fledgling bald eagle after it flew into the rear window of a parked pickup truck. Deputy Sgt. John Norsworthy swaddled the bird in a towel and took it to Wings of Hope Bird Sanctuary in Livingston Parish, where it should make a full recovery.

 

Tourism in Louisiana’s river parishes can expect a boost when American Cruise Lines launches new Mississippi River cruises – from New Orleans to Memphis – with a stop along the way in Vacherie. Jay Robichaux, with the River Parishes Tourism Commission, says this is welcome news…:

An agreement with American Cruise Lines will soon bring tourists via the Mississippi River to Vacherie. Cruises that run from New Orleans to Memphis and the Crescent City to Baton Rouge will make a stop along the way and visit the river parishes. Executive Director of the River Parishes Tourist Commission Jay Robichaux says it’s welcome news for the area.

Robichaux says they already have tours lined up for passengers to visit Oak Alley plantation and passengers will have even more excursion options in the future for St Charles, St John, and St. James parishes.

The newer cruise ships don’t need a dock to unload passengers. The vessels can edge their nose to even land and passengers can disembark. But Robichaux a dock is in the works. He says after COVID, and Hurricane Ida tourists will bring a well-needed boost to the economy and they are ready to welcome them ashore.

They expect ships will be cleared by the Corps of Engineers to stop in Vacherie in the next few weeks.

A 65-year-old Golden Meadow man faces video voyeurism charges after a woman discovered a camera in her bedroom. Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Captain Brennan Matherne says Golden Meadow Police asked them to assist and when they looked at the camera’s memory card, they found nude photos of the victim.

When questioned about the cameras, Matherne says Cheramie confessed.
