Sophomore Brandon Harris is the leader in LSU’s battle at starting quarterback. Harris is taking more of the snaps with the first team over Anthony Jennings, who started nearly every game last season. ULM football released a depth chart today and it has Garrett Smith as the first string quarterback. Smith is a redshirt freshman from Spring Branch, Texas. In his senior season at Smithson Valley High School, he threw for nearly 21-hundred yards, 21 touchdowns and he was intercepted three times. He also rushed for 685 yards and 11 scores.

UL Lafayette Coach Mark Hudspeth says the battle to be the starting quarterback for the Ragin Cajuns is down to two players, but he’s not saying which two. Hudspeth plans to keep it a secret on who will be the starting QB for the season opener at Kentucky.

The Kentucky Wildcats have named a starting QB. Patrick Towles beat out freshmand Drew Barker. Towles started alst season as a sophomore and threw for 27-hundred yards and 14 touchdowns.

Elsewhere in the SEC…Alabama quarterback Jake Coker will miss the next few days because of a minor foot injury. Arkansas running back Jonathan Williams will miss the entire 2015 regular season, because he’ll undergo foot surgery.
