In Sports Croatia’s dream of a world cup appearance has come true as they defeated England 2 to 1 yesterday to advance to the finals against France. Ivan Peristic tied the score in the 68th minute and Mario Mandzukic got the go-ahead goal in the 109th minute. The final is 10 a.m. on Sunday.

In Tennis at Wimbledon top seeded Roger Federer was but one single point away from victory against Kevin Anderson, to reach the quarterfinals, but amazingly Federer ended up losing the match in 5 sets taking 4 hours 14 minutes.

McKinley High in Baton Rouge is said to be the recipient of the largest fine in LHSAA history. The Panthers program was hit with nearly 42-thousand dollars in fines and a two year post season ban on ALL sports. The sanctions were for a number of violations across several sports.

Houston Astros’s third baseman and former LSU standout alex bregman wll be participating in the Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby on Monday. Bregman will face Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber in the first round in Washington.

The Philadelphia Phillies has adjusted their pitching rotation to allow ace Aaron Nola to pitch in the all-star game. Nola is a former LSU standout and will move up one day so he can pitch in the all-star game. Nola has had a stellar year posting a 2.27 ERA with 126 strikeouts and leads the National league in wins with 12.

LSU’S Devin White along with Senior Tight End Foster Moreau and junior defensive end Rashad Lawrence will be headed over to Atlanta to represent the Tigers in the southeastern conference media days. They start on Monday and run until Thursday.
