The Mega Millions jackpot for tonight is the third largest jackpot in US lottery history and its the most ever for the multi-state lottery game. The payout is 667-million dollars, or over 372 million if you take the straight cash option. Louisiana Lottery spokesperson Dustin Annison says the demand has been remarkable.
And it’s built up that near record breaking jackpot in roughly only three months. Annison says last time around someone on the west coast took the win.
Annison wants to remind folks that the lotto does provide a good deal of funding to state education coffers, so if you don’t take home the big prize, there’s still something to be happy about.
The lotto contributed 3.5 billion in revenue to the state since its founding in 1991.
