Funeral arrangements have been announced for the Shreveport Police officer from St. Amant (SAN ah maw) who was shot by a cop-killer in the line of duty last week. Visitation for 29 year-old Thomas LaValley will be Sunday at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales starting at 5pm , with the funeral on Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 11am. Baton Rouge Police announce they will be lining I-10 to pay their respects when LaValley’s honorary procession passes through around 2pm today.

First, it was some criticism for starting the school year too early in August for some Louisiana school districts. Now the Centers For Disease Control is pointing to the early start time in the morning for many students. According to a report, about 40 thousand students in middle and high school start their day at an average time of 8:03 am, instead of the CDC’s recommended time of 8:30, to allow kids to get enough sleep. In this report, Louisiana had the earliest average start time at 7:40 in the morning.
