Les Miles has filed a lawsuit against LSU over the school’s decision to vacate 37 victories from the football program because a player’s family received payments from a booster. LSU made the decision to vacate the victories as part of an NCAA investigation into recruiting violations involving the men’s basketball program and there was also this case of former offensive lineman Vadal Alexander’s father receiving 180-thousand dollars from John Paul Funes.

The lawsuit contends LSU would fight to get the victories restored. The loss of the 37 victories, drops Miles’ all-time winning percentage below 60-percent which is needed in order to be eligible for the Hall of Fame. Miles’ attorney Peter Ginsburg….

A starter at catcher for the last two seasons at LSU has decided to enter the transfer portal. Brady Neal hit .276 this past season with 9 home runs and 31 RBIs. He played in 44 games last season and was in line to be a starter next year. Neal’s departure, means junior college transfer Blaise Preister is the Tigers likely starter behind the plate next season. The former Live Oak star hit .377 with home 14 homes for Meridian Community College this past season.

At the College World Series yesterday….Texas A-and-M is now 2-0 after beating Kentucky five to one. Florida avoided elimination with a five to four win over North Carolina State.

Two elimination games today…Florida State against North Carolina this afternoon and tonight Kentucky versus Florida.

Former Pelican Jrue Holiday is now a two-time NBA champion as Holiday helped the Celtics win their 18th championship as Boston defeated Dallas 106 to 88 to win the series four games to one. Holiday had 15 points and 11 rebounds last night

Former LSU Head Football Coach Les Miles has filed a lawsuit against the school for their decision to vacate the wins while he coached claiming it cost him the chance for a College Football Hall of Fame qualification. Tiger Rag Editor Todd Horne says it’s embarrassing, and the violations happened under Miles’s watch…

A news release from Miles said it’s quote “an irrational and unfair self-inflicted punishment.”

LSU is losing two more key pieces to the transfer portal in catcher Brady Neal and left-handed pitcher Javen Coleman. Neal, still only 19 years old, has spent two years with the Tigers while Coleman has played four seasons in Baton Rouge as a reliable relief pitcher and starter.

Derek Curiel, the No. 10 rated prospect in the 2024 class, officially withdrew his name from the MLB draft and will be coming to Baton Rouge. The outfielder will enroll early and join the team this summer.

Third Baseman Tommy White and right-handed pitcher Luke Holman have each earned Second-Team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association. The pair of juniors are expected to go in the MLB Draft this summer.

The Washington Nationals are promoting former LSU star Dylan Crews to the team’s Triple A affiliate Rochester Red Wings. Crews was selected to the Nationals as the second overall pick in last year’s MLB Draft.

The Saints are on break until training camp after mandatory minicamp wrapped up last week. Players and fans got their first look at the offense under new coordinator Klint Kubiak. Quarterback Derek Carr says the coaches threw a lot of material at the players, but these Saints are up for the challenge…

LSU right-handed pitcher Sam Dutton has committed to Auburn. Dutton entered the portal earlier this week after starting 15 games over the last three seasons with the Tigers.

LSU basketball will miss out on top transfer prospect Coleman Hawkins. The Illinois forward was slated to visit LSU but has announced his commitment to Kansas State. The graduate transfer would have been head coach Matt McMahon’s top transfer addition, but the Tigers will instead rely on a top-10 high school recruiting class and solid transfer class.

Pelicans assistant coach Fred Vinson is joining Monty Williams’ Detroit Pistons staff after 14 years in New Orleans where he previously worked under Williams. Vinson is one of the NBA’s highest regarded shooting coaches and has helped improved the shooting of players like Lonzo Ball, Herb Jones, and Brandon Ingram.

Grambling men’s basketball coach Donte’ Jackson has been extended through the 2029 season. Jackson and the Tigers are coming off a successful season earning their first ever SWAC tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance. In seven seasons at Grambling, Jackson has claimed three regular season SWAC crowns and three Conference Coach of the Year Awards.

The Saints concluded mandatory veteran minicamp yesterday and will be on break until training camp begins July 24. One of the biggest stories from the three days of practice was the sharp performance of quarterback Derek Carr and the offense under new coordinator Klint Kubiak. Saints training camp will be held at UC Irvine. New Orleans will kickoff preseason play against the Cardinals August 10th in Arizona.

Offseason addition defensive end Chase Young received good news this week after a visit with renowned neck specialist Dr. Robert Watson. Dr. Watson performed surgery on Young earlier this offseason and says the former second-overall draft pick will undergo more tests in about six weeks but plans to participate in training camp.

Former LSU basketball player Josh Maravich, the youngest son of LSU great Pistol Pete Maravich has died at the age of 42. A cause of death has not been given. LSU says Josh Maravich died on Friday at the family’s home in Covington. He was on the Tigers men’s basketball team from 2001 to 2005 and said he wanted to play for LSU to make his Dad proud.

LSU left-handed pitcher Cam Johnson has entered the transfer portal. Johnson was the highest ranked draft prospect to ever to come to LSU. But Johnson struggled to throw strikes only pitched in nine innings, walking 16 and giving up 12 runs.

There is only one super regional left undecided. Georgia and North Carolina State will meet in Athens and the winner will face Kentucky in the College World Series. The other matchups in Omaha are already set, Tennessee versus Florida State, North Carolina against Virginia and Texas a-and-M will take on Florida.

College athletic departments are planning for revenue sharing, where schools will directly pay their athletes starting in 2025. It could be around 22-million dollars for all athletes at a major school as a result of a historic antitrust lawsuit. Schools will look to cut costs. LSU running back John Emery is coming back for a sixth and final year of eligibility. He gives the Tigers five scholarship running backs for 2025, because it does not look like Trey Holly will be cleared of gun charges before the start of the season. Emery’s season was cut short last year because of a knee injury.

Louisiana Tech football has received verbal commitments from Ruston linebacker Zheric Hill and Destrehan receiver Johnnie Thiel the fourth.

LSU second baseman Steven Milam has been invited to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training camp. He is one of 56 players that will attempt to make the Collegiate National Team that will go on a summer league tour that includes a series against Chinese Taipei. Milam had a monster freshman season, hit .326, with eight homers, and 40 RBIs.

LSU has several players who just completed their sophomore seasons who are eligible for next month’s Major League Baseball Draft. Griffin Herring, Paxton Kling, Gavin Guidry and Jared Jones. Jones hit 28-home runs during his sophomore campaign and Hunt Palmer with ESPN 104-5 and 104-9 in Baton Rouge says it’s likely Jones has played his final game at LSU…

Palmer says he could see Herring coming back to improve his draft stock as a starting pitcher. Johnson has said he plans to have Herring in the weekend rotation in 2025.

Former Grambling assistant football coach Doug Porter has passed away at the age of 94. He was the oldest living member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Porter was an assistant at Grambling for nine seasons after he played quarterback at Xavier of Louisiana and served in the U-S Army. He was a head coach at Mississippi Valley State and Fort Valley State. At Fort Valley State, Porter was a seven-time Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

LSU signee Konnor Griffin from Jackson, Mississippi, has been named the National Gatorade baseball Player of the Year. The center fielder and shortstop hit .559 with nine home runs, 39 RBIS and 87 stolen bases. He also pitched and was 10-0 with a 0.72 ERA and 107 strikeouts. Griffin might not make it to LSU as he’s expected to be a top pick in next month’s Major League Baseball Draft.

The College Football Bowl schedule has been released and for the second year in a row the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl will be played on a Saturday night. Kick-off for the 48th edition of the Indy Bowl will be at 8:15 PM on Saturday December 28th.

The New Orleans Bowl is traditionally played on a Saturday, but this year it will be played on Thursday night December 19th at 6 PM. The game was moved to Thursday, because on Saturday December 21st, there will be three college football playoff games.

It’s a free fishing weekend in Louisiana, which means a license is not needed to cast a line in the water. State Wildlife Fisheries Outreach Biologist Josh Porter says the hope is that someone who is not an angler will go fishing this weekend and get hooked on the sport. Porter says to make it easier to catch something, they’ve stocked adult-sized catfish at 17 ponds across the state…

Former LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese had a big game last night playing close to her home in Baltimore as she scored 16 points, grabbed eleven rebounds and five steals as the Chicago Sky defeated the winless Washington Mystics 79 to 71. LSU coach Kim Mulkey had a front row seat at the Capital One Arena in D-C and two shared a warm embrace.

Based on media reports, Saints defensive end Isaiah Foskey has looked good at O-T-As. Foskey did not make an impact in his rookie season last year after he was drafted in the second round out of Notre Dame. He appeared in ten games last year and had nine tackles. The college football bowl schedule was released today and the New Orleans Bowl will be played on Thursday December 19th at 6 PM. The game is moved off Saturday, because college football playoff games will played on the 21st. The Independence Bowl will once again be played on a Saturday night, December 28th.

Lake Charles will continue to host the high school boys basketball, baseball, softball and swim state championships. The baseball state championships will have a different format next season as Divisions one, two and three will go to a best out of three series for the championships. Former LSU women’s basketball player Hailey Van Lith will compete in the Summer Olympics in Paris. Van Lith will represent the U-S in three on three women’s basketball. Her teammates are Cameron Brink, Rhyne Howard and Cierra Burdick.

LSU pitcher Griffin Hering and Louisiana Tech’s Ethan Bates are Stopper of the Year finalists. Bates led the nation with 17 saves.

LSU relief pitcher Aiden Moffett has entered the transfer portal after making 16 appearances in 2024 and finishing with an ERA of 5.60.

Meanwhile LSU’s Griffin Herring has been named Stopper of the Year. The left-hander was 6-1 with a 1.79 ERA and six saves.

ESPN announced today the LSU-North Carolina matchups on Saturday and Monday were the two most watched NCAA Baseball regional games on record. Monday night’s game averaged 964-thousand viewers on ESPN two.

The College football play has released game times for the 12-team playoff. The first postseason game will be on December 20th at 7 PM. That’s a Friday night. There will be three games on December 21st. The Sugar Bowl is a quarterfinal site and they will host a playoff game on New Year’s Day at 7:45 in the Ceasars Superdome.
