The Saints can make a huge statement with a win over Dallas on Sunday. New Orleans won by 37 points over Carolina in the season opener. Linebacker Demario Davis says they need to follow up that win with another one….

Saints legend Steve Gleason, who suffers from A-L-S, is in the hospital for unspecified reasons according to a post on his X account. He’s listed in stable condition and New Orleans EMS and fire department had to take him to the hospital as Hurricane Franciene moved through New Orleans.

LSU receiver Chris Hilton remains questionable for Sunday’s game at South Carolina. He has yet to play because of a bone bruise. Jordan Allen, Kyle Parker, Da’Shawn Womack and West Weeks are also questionable. Starting offensive guard Garrett Dellinger is probable after missing last Saturday’s Nicholls game.

The 24th ranked Colonels continue their three-game road trip this Saturday as they are at 11th ranked Sacramento State. McNeese kicks off conference play by hosting Stephen F Austin. Southeastern Louisiana has its home opener against Eastern Washington and Northwestern State visits South Alabama.

Five Saints players did not practice today including Marshawn Lattimore and Tyrann Mathieu. Lattimore is dealing with a hip and hamstring, while Mathieu has a bad heel. But receiver A-T Perry and guard Nick Saldiveri were full participants.

Even though Hurricane Francine is bearing down on southeast Louisiana, the Saints practiced this morning at their training facility in Metairie.

Conditions in Baton Rouge are expected to deteriorate this afternoon, so the LSU Tigers practice this morning without defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory, who is out for the year with a torn Achilles. Defensive end Paris Shand says they got other guys who can step up….

Louisiana Tech football coach Sonny Cumbie says Jack Turner will start at quarterback for the Bulldogs this Saturday when they visit North Carolina State. Turner was injured in the first half of the Nicholls State game on August 31st after taking a big hit. Cumbie credits Turner’s strength and conditioning for his quick recovery…

N-C State went 9-and-4 last year, but they are coming off a 51-10 loss to Tennessee.

Southern football coach Terrence Graves has announced redshirt freshman Czavian Teasett will start this Saturday against Jackson State. Teasett threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns last week against Savannah State.

In basketball…four star forward Matt Gilhool has committed to LSU. He’ six-foot-ten and is ranked by 2-4-7-sports as the 24th best power forward in the nation.

Saturday was a quiet night for LSU linebacker Harold Perkins. Perkins had just three tackles in the win over Nicholls and the Tigers most dynamic player on defense did not have much of an impact. It raises the question again, is Perkins being used correctly as an inside linebacker. Coach Brian Kelly says they will continue to evaluate…

Northwestern State linebacker Blake Gotcher had a career-high 23 tackles in the Demons’ loss to Prairie View A-and-M. He’s the first Demon since 2019 to have more than 20 tackles in a game. N-S-U will be at South Alabama on Saturday looking for their first win on the season.

LSU is having trouble getting its run game going, but Coach Brian Kelly is not concerned. The Tigers only rushed for 68 yards on 21 carries against Nicholls. Kelly says the Colonels forced the Tigers to throw the ball more, because the number of defenders they had close to the line of scrimmage…

LSU will visit South Carolina this Saturday. The Gamecocks lead the SEC in sacks with ten.

Paul Skenes won his tenth game of the season last night as Skenes allowed one run over six innings and struck out nine as Pittsburgh edged Miami three to two. Skenes has struck out 151, a franchise record for the Pirates for a rookie.

The Saints were easy winners in week one as New Orleans defeated Carolina 47 to 10. We’ll get a better idea of how good this Saints team is over the next month as three of the next four opponents made the playoffs last year, starting with this Sunday’s game against the Cowboys at AT-and-T Stadium in Arlington.

The Ragin Cajuns are off to a good start at 2-and-0 and quarterback Ben Woolridge is completing 76-percent of his passes. Coach Michael Desormeaux says avoiding negative plays on offense allows for an efficient passing game…

The Cajuns are off this Saturday and they’ll host Tulane on September 21, which will be an 11 AM kick -off.

Grambling quarterback Myles Crawley has been named SWAC player of the week. Crawley threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns in Grambling’s 37-20 win over Tuskegee. The Tigers are at Texas A-and-M Commerce this Saturday.

What a start to the season for the Saints as they scored a franchise record 47 points in a season opener and crushed NFC South rival Carolina 47 to 10. Quarterback Derek Carr threw three touchdown passes and the offense scored on its first nine possessions. Alvin Kamara rushed for 83 yards and a score. A-K says they did a great job of executing new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s offense

The Saints will face a tougher test this Sunday when they visit the Cowboys in Arlington, Texas. Dallas had a convincing 33-17 win over Cleveland yesterday.

In his first NFL game, Jayden Daniels rushed for two touchdowns but the Commanders still lost to the Buccaneers 37-20. Washington released former kicker Cade York, who missed two field goals.

 

In LSU’s 44-21 win over Nicholls, the Tigers only ran it 21 times for 68 yards. Coach Brian Kelly said they ended up changing out of a lot of run plays at the line of scrimmage, because Nicholls had more defenders near the line of scrimmage than they could block. Kelly still has faith in his ground game and if the Gamecocks this Saturday try to defend the pass, they’ll hit them with run…

LSU-South Carolina will kick off at 11 AM this Saturday. ESPN’s College Gameday will be there. The Tigers next home game against UCLA on September 21st will kick off at 2:30 or 3:15.

 

The Ragin Cajuns next game will be against Tulane on the 21st and that game will be played at 11 AM at Cajun Field. ESPN-U will televise the game. U-L Lafayette is off to a 2-and-0 start after beating Kennesaw State 34-10.

The Saints were clicking on all cylinders in yesterday’s season opener as they crushed the Carolina Panthers 47 to 10. New Orleans scored on its first nine possessions. Quarterback Derek Carr threw three touchdown passes and running back Alvin Kamara rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown. Kamara has been in New Orleans long enough to remember when the Saints had one of the best offenses in the NFL and is pleased to see a return to their high scoring ways…

The Saints will face a more difficult test this Sunday when they face the Dallas Cowboys, who easily beat the Browns 33-17 yesterday.

Elsewhere in the NFC South, Tampa Bay topped Washington 37 to 20 in Jaiden Daniels NFL debut. The Heisman trophy winning LSU quarterback threw for 184 yards and rushed for 88 yards and two scores.

Atlanta lost to Pittsburgh 18 to 10.

LSU beat Nicholls 44 to 21 on Saturday, but only rushed for 68 yards and averaged just three point two yards a carry. Garrett Nussmeier threw for 302 yards and six touchdowns, but Coach Brian Kelly is looking for more balance…

The Tigers are at South Carolina this Saturday. The Gamecocks have played well on defense through two games.

ULM is off to a 2-and-0 start after a dominating 32-6 win over the UAB Blazers. The Warhawks defense held the Blazers to 259 total yards and forced three turnovers and that includes a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown by Carlin Vigers from Eunice. Coach Bryant Vincent says they beat UAB in every phase…

ULM is off this Saturday and on September 21st they’ll visit second ranked Texas.

It was an absolutely dominating performance by the Saints yesterday as New Orleans crushed the Carolina Panthers 47 to 10. The 47 points are the most points the Saints have ever scored in a season opener. A 59-yard touchdown pass from Derek Carr to Rashid Shaheed on the first drive of the game set the tone. Carr threw three touchdown passes. Alvin Kamara also had a rushing touchdown. The defense had four sacks and three turnovers. Coach Dennis Allen was not pleased with the ten penalties, but he’ll take the win…

Cut 20 (14) “…do better”

The Saints will visit the Cowboys in Dallas next Sunday. Former Haughton High star Dak Prescott threw for 179 yards and a touchdown after agreeing to a four-year 240-million dollar contract prior to kickoff. Dallas defeated Cleveland 33 to 17.

It was a lot closer than expected; but nonetheless, LSU earned its first victory of 2024 by beating Nicholls, 44-21 on Saturday. Nicholls actually pulled to within two early in the third quarter on a 67-yard touchdown run by Colin Guggenheim, but the Colonels would get no closer. The Tigers scored 21 unanswered points to put the game away. After the game, LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly said the short week exposed some flaws in the team’s game.

LSU will now get ready for the SEC opener this Saturday at South Carolina. They also have to prepare for playing without their best defensive tackle, Jacobian Guillory is done for the season with a torn achilles tendon.

The Ragin Cajuns and Warhawks enjoyed blowout victories to improve to 2-and-0, while Tulane, Southeastern Louisiana, Northwestern State and McNeese all lost.

Tomorrow marks the start of the 100th season of football in Tiger Stadium and it’s the first time Nicholls State has ever played the Tigers in football. Colonels Coach Tim Rebowe says his team is looking forward to running onto the field at Death Valley.

Nicholls is coming off a loss to Louisiana Tech, while LSU lost by a touchdown to USC last Sunday. Despite the loss, senior defensive end Sai’vion Jones had a breakout game against the Trojans with two sacks and five tackles. Jones says he can’t let one game get to his head…

Kick off on Saturday night is at 6:30.

The Ragin Cajuns will look to improve to 2-and-0 on Saturday when they face Conference USA newcomer Kennesaw State. In its first-ever game as an FBS member, the Owls lost to UTSA 27-16 last night.

ULM will try to go 2-and-0 on the season when the Warhawks host UAB. First meeting between these two schools since 1999.

In other action…McNeese visits Texas A-and-M, Northwestern State hosts Prairie View looking for its first win since November 2022, Grambling faces Tuskegee in the school’s first home night game in six years, Southeastern Louisiana is at Southern Miss and Tulane takes on 17th ranked Kansas State.

The Saints kick off the season on Sunday at noon in the Dome against the Panthers. Quarterback Derek Carr feels good about new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s offense…
