One of those receivers, Ajalen Holley was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week. He had 175 receiving yards in the Warhawks win over Idaho on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech’s Kenneth Dixon has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the week. Dixon had 184 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs big win over U-L Lafayette.

And McNeese State’s Aaron Sam was named the Southland Defensive Player of the week. The senior had a 98-yard interception return for a touchdown against Nebraska.

When the Saints return to practice tomorrow, they’ll look to correct the mistakes that led to last Sunday’s overtime loss in Atlanta. New Orleans’ defense allowed 568 total yards to the Falcons, the second most in Black and Gold history. Coach Sean Payton says the problems were evident when watching the film…

Acadiana is number one in Five-A, Warren Easton is ranked number one in four-A, John Curtis is ranked number one in three-A, Calvary Baptist has the top spot in Two-A, and Mangham is ranked number one in One-a.

ULM wide receiver Ajalen Holley has been named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the week after posting a career high 175 yards in Saturday’s 38-31 win over Idaho. Kenneth Dixon of Louisiana Tech is the Conference USA offensive player of the week after his 99-yard-touchdown run Saturday in the 48-20 win at Louisiana-Lafayette.

Back to honors, in the Southland Conference Aaron Sam picked up defensive player of the week with his 98 yard interception return for TD in the Cowboy’s narrow 31-24 loss to Nebraska. SLU’s Ryan Adams got Southland special teams player of the week.

The Saints will look to rebound from a tough season opening loss to Atlanta when they visit Cleveland this Sunday. New Orleans Coach Sean Payton says it’s important the players do not allow this loss to linger…:

The Saints are spending today trying to recover from Sunday’s hard fought overtime loss to Atlanta. New Orleans’ defense is taking a good portion of the blame as they gave up 568 yards in total offense to the Falcons. Saints linebacker Curtis Lofton says they can’t let this loss linger….

The Saints players will have tomorrow off and then they’ll get ready for their next opponent. New Orleans will visit the Cleveland Browns this Sunday. The Browns rallied back from a 24-point deficit against Steelers, but Pittsburgh ended up winning that game 30 to 27.

Two more NFL games tonight…Eli Manning and the Giants are at Detroit and Patrick Peterson and the Cardinals host San Diego.

LSU had a chance to show off both of their quarterbacks in Saturday night’s rout over Sam Houston State. Starter Anthony Jennings threw for three touchdowns and back-up Brandon Harris rushed for a score and threw a TD. Jennings says the team has confidence in both quarterbacks…

Louisiana Tech has a lot of momentum heading into Thursday’s Conference USA opener against North Texas. The Bulldogs buried the Cajuns 48 to 20 on Saturday. Tech running back Kenneth Dixon started the scoring with a 99-yard touchdown run and Quarterback Cody Sokol says that run allowed them to seize the momentum….

The Saints defense didn’t have any answers for Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons yesterday. The Dirty Birds racked up 568 total yards in a 37-34 overtime win over New Orleans. Saints Linebacker Curtis Lofton says it’s a disappointing loss….

The loss spoiled a nice NFL debut performance from rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who had seven catches, including one for a touchdown.

Elsewhere in the NFC South…Carolina held on to beat Tampa Bay 20 to 14. New Orleans is at Cleveland next Sunday. The Browns lost to Pittsburgh 30 to 27. Johnny Manziel did not play for Cleveland.

LSU Quarterback Anthony Jennings took another step forward in the Tigers 56 to nothing win over Sam Houston State on Saturday. Jennings threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns, all of them went to his favorite target Travin Dural. Here’s Jennings after the game…

One of the bigger upsets this past weekend in college football happened in Lafayette as Louisiana Tech trounced the Ragin Cajuns 48-20. The Bulldogs had 533 total yards and they were led by quarterback Cody Sokol, who threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns. Sokul says it was a great performance in a rivalry game

The NFL season is off to a tough start for the Saints who lost in overtime 37 to 34 to NFC South Rival Atlanta. New Orleans gave up 568 total yards, the second most in franchise history, but still had a chance to win it. However a Marques Colston fumble in overtime, set up Matt Bryant’s game winning 52-yard field goal. Quarterback Drew Brees says it was another classic Saints-Falcons game…

Brees threw for 333 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks had a nice NFL debut as he caught 7 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. The Black and Gold are at Cleveland next Sunday.

LSU had no trouble beating Sam Houston State 56-0 on Saturday as several true freshmen got into the scoring act. Malachi Dupre, Darrel Williams, Brandon Harris and Leonard Fournette all scored their first touchdowns. Fournette struck the Heisman pose after his score, something head coach Les Miles didn’t like….

The Warhawks are off to a 2-and-0 start on the 2014 season after winning their Sun Belt opener over Idaho 38-31, Centarius Donald rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns, including the game winning score in the final seconds.

Kenneth Dixon had a 99-yard touchdown run as Louisiana Tech thumped the Ragin Cajuns 48 to 20. McNeese State almost pulled off the biggest upset of the weekend, but came up short and lost to Nebraska 31-24.

LSU fans will walk into a newly expanded stadium on Saturday as the Fighting Tigers host Sam Houston State at 6:30. Capacity inside Death Valley is now over 102-thousand and Sports Information Director Michael Bonette says they’ve also done things to improve the fan experience inside the stadium…

Bonnette says they will also use contraflow on Nicholson Road heading south to help alleviate traffic congestion after the game.

Tulane University will play its first football game on Saturday in its brand new campus stadium. The Greenies will host Georgia Tech. In Hammond, Southeastern Louisiana will host Southern Utah at 7 P-M. Sun Belt play begins for ULM as the Warhawks will host Idaho at six P-M. The Vandals were one-and-11 in 2013 and it’s unclear who they will start at quarterback.

Louisiana Tech and U-L Lafayette will resume their rivalry in football on Saturday when the two teams meet in Cajun Field. It’s first time they’ve played since 2004 and U-L-L Coach Mark Hudspeth wants a win over their in-state foe….

The LSU Tigers play Sam Houston State for their first home game of the season and there are some new traffic patterns for fans to follow tomorrow. Tiger Athletic Foundation has made large investments to create more parking for fans. Sports information director Michael Bonnette says additional parking lots have opened allowing for more than 2,300 new parking spaces…:

In the opening game of the 2014 NFL season, Green Bay was dominated by the Seahawks who went on to win 36-16 Thursday night in Seattle. The countdown is on for Black and Gold fans now who can’t wait for the noon kickoff between the Saints in Atlanta Sunday.

The NFL season kicks off tonight with Green Bay versus Seattle. Two teams the Saints will have to get past if New Orleans wants to get to the Super Bowl. The Black and Gold open the season on Sunday against Atlanta. Quarterback Drew Brees is good to go, even though he missed most of the preseason with an oblique injury…

The Saints won both games against the Falcons last year, but they were hotly contested games. 17-13, 23-17 were the scores for both games last year.

The US men’s basketball team overcame a slow start to rout Ukraine 95-71 in pool play at the FIBA World Championships today. It was another solid performance for the Pelicans Anthony Davis, who had 12 points and six rebounds.

The 12th ranked LSU Football team should have an opportunity to get better on offense this Saturday as the Tigers host Sam Houston State. After hitting on some big pass plays in the win over Wisconsin, wide receiver Travin Dural of Breaux Bridge anticipates offensive coordinator Cam Cameron will open the playbook…

The Saints will kick-off the season on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. Quarterback Drew Brees says even though it’s just game one of a 16-game regular season schedule, this weekend’s match-up in the Georgia Dome could have postseason ramifications…:

Saints Coach Sean Payton announced the team has re-signed kicker Shayne Graham and veteran wide receiver Robert Meachem. Both players were released on Saturday. In other Saints news…outside linebacker Junior Galette has signed a four-year contract extension that’s worth 41-million dollars. Galette will reportedly receive 23-million dollars in guarantee money. He started 16 games last season and recoreded a career-high 12 sacks.

A study out of Vanderbilt University, says money spent on college football coaches is of greater value to universities than CEO are to the corporations they work for. Vandy business and law professor, Randall Thomas, says when it comes to coach pay versus CEO pay, it’s much easier to justify a coach’s salary….

LSU’s Les Miles is paid four-point-three million dollars and he’s the seventh highest paid coach in the country.

The 12th ranked Fighting Tigers of LSU open up their home schedule on Saturday against Sam Houston State. The Bearkats play in a lower tier of college football than LSU, but they’ve been a dominate FCS program. Coach Les Miles says there’s a lot of talent on the Sam Houston State team….

The Bearkats have played two games this season and so far they’re averaging 614 yards and 43 points a game.

The Ragin Cajuns scored 45 points last Saturday against Southern. This Saturday they’ll face in-state rival Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs are coming off a 48 to 16 loss to fourth ranked Oklahoma. But Tech Coach Skip Holtz was pleased with how quarterback Cody Sokol performed in the second-half.
