The Saints head to Cleveland where they’ll look to avoid an 0-and-2 start to the 2014 NFL season. New Orleans is favorite to win, but Quarterback Drew Brees says the Browns have a ton of talent:

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva is up for a three year contract extension today. Assistant Tiger Rag editor James Moran says football is a biggie when you’re the AD and that’s one thing LSU has had sucess with during Alleva’s tenure which began in 2008. He says Coach Miles gets the job done on the field but Alleva has given Les alot to work with…:

The ULM Warhawks head to Baton Rouge on Saturday as heavy underdogs. The 10th ranked Bayou Bengals are favored to win by 31 points in the recently expanded Tiger Stadium. ULM Coach Todd Berry says his senior class has played in front of a lot of big crowds, so he expects them to be able to focus on the task at hand on Saturday night..:

The last time LSU played ULM was 2010 and the Tigers won 51 to 0.

Go Bulldogs! Louisiana Tech is looking hot so far this season as they put together another nice win last night trouncing North Texas 42-21. That puts the Bulldogs at 2-1 on the year now heading into their game against in-state rival Northwestern State next Saturday.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs put together another impressive performance last night in a 42 to 21 win at North Texas. Cody Sokol threw for 243 yards and five touchdowns . Two of the TD passes went to Paul Turner. Kenneth Dixon rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown. Tech’s defense didn’t give up a touchdown until the third quarter.

The Saints defense is looking to rebound from a poor performance against Atlanta when they visit the Cleveland Browns this Sunday. Safety Jairus Byrd says they’ve spent this week working on fundamentals….

Meanwhile former Saints cornerback Jabari Greer has announced his retirement. Greer had a 10-year career in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the Saints.

The LSU Board of Supervisors meets today and they are expected to extend Athletic Director Joe Alleva’s contract through 2019. Alleva’s base pay will remain at $725,000 a year plus incentives. Assistant Tiger Rag Editor James Moran says Alleva has done well in helping to generate funds for new facilities and the expansion of Tiger Stadium…

Tomorrow night….LSU will host ULM. It’s the third ever meeting between the two schools on the football field. That’s not the only match-up involving instate teams. Northwestern State will be in Baton Rouge tomorrow night to take on Southern. The Demons are still looking for their first win of the season. Southeastern Louisiana is at Tulane. The Lions are 2-and-0, while the Green Wave is 0-and-2.

LSU football Coach Les Miles expects Tigers wide receiver Travin Dural to play Saturday night against ULM. Dural was involved in a minor car wreck following last Saturday’s game. The Breaux Bridge native needed stitches on his forehead, which caused a problem with putting his helmet on. But Miles says those issues have been resolved.

Saints wide receiver Kenny Stills was limited at practice for a second day in a row, because of a quad injury. But linebacker Curtis Lofton and cornerback Keenan Lewis participated fully today, after they were limited yesterday. Also, former Saints cornerback Jabari Greer announced his retirement. Greer was a member of the Saints Super Bowl team and played 10 years in the league.

USA Basketball has advanced to the gold medal game of the FIBA Championships in Spain. The United States defeated Lithuania 96 to 68. After a slow start, Pelicans star Anthony Davis had eight points, six rebounds and two blocked shots.

Tulane announced today there’s less than one-thousand tickets left for its home game on Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions head into the contest ranked third in the FCS polls and S-L-U is looking for their first ever win against an FBS opponent. Kick-off is at seven o’ clock.

The Lady Techsters women ‘s basketball schedule was released today. First-year head coach Tyler Summit is disappointed they only have 11 home games this year.

The Saints are back on the practice field today, getting ready for Sunday’s game against Cleveland. The Browns and New Orleans both lost their season openers. Coach Sean Payton says his guys are eager to make the necessary corrections….

This will be the Saints first game in Cleveland since 2006. That was the start of the Payton and Drew Brees era.

Former Saints cornerback Jabari Greer announced his retirement today on ESPN’s “First Take.” Greer was a member of the Saints Super bowl team, but he was released by the Black and Gold last February. Greer suffered a knee injury during the middle of last season and ended the year on the Saints injured reserve list.

Louisiana Tech will kick-off conference play tonight with a meeting against North Texas. The Bulldogs are coming off a big win over U-L Lafayette, while the Mean Green beat up on SMU last week. Tech head coach Skip Holtz says he’s impressed with North Texas’ power running game…:

After practice Wednesday, LSU Head Coach Les Miles said leading receiver Travin Dural will play in the ULM game Saturday despite an injury from a car accident last weekend. Miles called it a soft tissue injury to Dural’s forehead but he was back running around yesterday with his helmet on.

The Saints are getting ready to face the Cleveland Browns this Sunday. The Browns were the talk of the preseason, because of Johnny Manziel, but he was beat out by Brian Hoyer. New Orleans Coach Sean Payton says Hoyer played well in the second half last week..:

Both the Saints and Browns lost their season openers last Sunday. The game kicks off at 12noon.

The Ray Rice saga continues. Yesterday afternoon an AP source came out and said that NFL executives were sent the Rice elevator domestic battery video back in April. Commissioner Goodell told CBS this week that he saw it for the first time Monday.

LSU’s leading receiver Travin Dural could reportedly miss Saturday night’s game against ULM. Police records indicate Dural was involved in a car accident on Saturday after the game and needed stiches. At this point, it’s difficult for him to wear a helmet because of the stitches.

Fans of the ULM Warhawks are getting geared up for the game against LSU this weekend in Baton Rouge. Michelle Southern reports….

The Associated Press is reporting that a law enforcement official has come forward to say a copy of the video showing Ray Rice punching his then finance in a casino elevator was delivered to an NFL executive in April. Commissioner Roger Goodell has said they had not been able to see the video, until TMZ released it this week.

Other NFL news, Saints wide receiver Kenny Stills was listed as limited at practice today, because of a quad injury. Cornerback Keenan Lewis and linebacker Curtis Lofton were also limited because of injuries. New Orleans is preparing for Sunday’s game against Cleveland. Browns linebacker and former LSU Tiger Barkevious Mingo did not practice today because of a shoulder injury.

Louisiana Tech released its men’s basketball schedule for the upcoming season this year. The Bulldogs will play 15 games at the Thomas Assembly Center. They’ll also visit national-power Syracuse on December 14th and North Carolina State on December 23rd.

The Rebels two wins this year are against Boise State and Vanderbilt.

Southeastern Louisiana looks to make a statement this Saturday when travel to New Orleans to play Tulane. The Lions are ranked third in the FCS polls, but the school has never defeated a school from the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Louisiana Tech leaves today for Denton, Texas, where they’ll play at North Texas tomorrow. The Bulldogs are looking to follow up last Saturday’s win at UL Lafayette with a victory on the road to begin conference play.

LSU sophomore wide receiver Travin Dural (Trey-vin Der-al) is developing into an explosive playmaker for the Tigers. The former Breaux Bridge star already has 291 receiving yards, which is the most ever by an LSU player after two games. Dural says he’s been able to develop a strong chemistry with starting quarterback Anthony Jennings…:

The Ragin Cajuns football team is trying to regroup, after an ugly loss to in-state rival Louisiana Tech this past Saturday. The Bulldogs beat the Cajuns 48 to 20 on their home field. Coach Mark Hudspeth says looking back at it, he believes his team wasn’t focused on Tech, instead they were worried about the big picture…:

The Cajuns face a tough test this Saturday as they attempt to get back in the win column with a visit to 14th ranked Ole Miss.

LSU defensive back Jalen Mills is scheduled to be arraigned on October 14th according to court documents. Mills is charged with simple battery for allegeldy hitting a woman earlier this year. He plans to plead not guilty.

The Saints will return to the practice field tomorrow, looking to correct the mistakes that led to Atlanta putting up 568 yards of total offense. Coach Sean Payton says missed tackles and poor communication led to the defensive breakdown. He says the inability to get more pressure on Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was also a problem….

At the FIBA Championships, Team USA defeated Slovenia 119 to 76. Pelicans star Anthony Davis had a double-double, 13 points and 11 rebounds. Lithuania is up next for the Americans in a semi-final match-up.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a former LSU football player for allegedly choking his girlfriend. 25-year-old DeAngelo Peterson was booked on one count of simple battery. Spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks says deputies responded to a call from an apartment on Nicholson Drive…

Peterson was an LSU tight end from 2008-2011. Hicks says Peterson claims the victim grabbed a knife during the argument and that he grabbed her shirt in an attempt to disarm her.

In other LSU news….Tigers quarterback Anthony Jennings leads the nation in passing yards per attempt and completion. Jennings is averaging 26 yards per completition.

Ragin Cajuns Coach Mark Hudspeth believes senior receiver Jamal Robinson will play Saturday against 14th ranked Ole Miss. Robinson missed most of Saturday’s loss to Louisiana Tech with a leg injury.

The LSU Tigers and ULM Warhawks will face off on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. Tigers coach Les Miles is impressed with some of the Warhawk play makers on offense….

One of those receivers, Ajalen Holley was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week. He had 175 receiving yards in the Warhawks win over Idaho on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech’s Kenneth Dixon has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the week. Dixon had 184 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs big win over U-L Lafayette.

And McNeese State’s Aaron Sam was named the Southland Defensive Player of the week. The senior had a 98-yard interception return for a touchdown against Nebraska.

When the Saints return to practice tomorrow, they’ll look to correct the mistakes that led to last Sunday’s overtime loss in Atlanta. New Orleans’ defense allowed 568 total yards to the Falcons, the second most in Black and Gold history. Coach Sean Payton says the problems were evident when watching the film…
