The Fighting Tigers of LSU are back in Death Valley tomorrow night as they host the Kentucky Wildcats. The purple and gold are coming off an exciting win at Florida and will be looking to keep that momentum going into Saturday’s game. Tiger Rag Editor Robert Stewart thinks LSU should come out on top because it is a home game that will be filled with excited Tiger fans, but since the Bayou Bengals have struggled so much on defense it will probably be a closer game than many people think. Leonard Fournette is coming off his best game of the season and Stewart says you can expect another nice performance out of the running back…:

The Kentucky game begins a three game home-stand with Ole Miss coming in next weekend then Alabama on November 8th.

UL-Lafayette wide receiver Jamal Robinson will miss the remainder of the season after having foot surgery. Robinson injured his foot in the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s win over Texas State when a defender rolled over his ankle.

The marquee matchup this Saturday in the Southland Conference will take place at Strawberry Stadium in Hammond. Southeastern Louisiana will host Central Arkansas. Both teams come into this matchup undefeated in conference play.

Elsewhere in the Southland, McNeese State will host Abeline Christian, Lamar travels to Thibodaux to take on Nicholls State, and Northwestern State will play host to Sam Houston.

Anthony Davis poured in 28 points last night as the Pelicans cruised past the Oklahoma City Thunder 120-86 in the Smoothie King Center. Tyreke Evans, seeing his first action this preseason, added 10 points, seven assists, and four rebounds in 20 minutes of action. The Pels improve their preseason record to 3-and-2.

The Major League Baseball World Series is now set. The San Franscisco Giants’ Travis Ishikawa’s walk-off home run lifted his team over the St. Louis Cardinals to win the National League Pennant. The Giants will face American League Champion Kansas City Royals in the World Series. Game 1 is Tuesday.

The New Orleans Saints are back in action this Sunday as they visit the Detroit Lions and one of their former first round picks, Reggie Bush. Quarterback Drew Brees says at 2-and-3, now is the time to string some victories together…:

There’s a good chance the Saints will not have tight end Jimmy Graham for Sunday’s game against the Lions. Graham has a shoulder injury that knocked him out of a game nearly two weeks ago. Brees says that means more chances for the other tight ends and wide receivers on the roster:

The game kicks off at noon.

LSU announces a home-and-home two-game series against the University of Texas. The Tigers will visit Austin on September 7th, 2019 and the teams will meet in Baton Rouge on September 12th, 2020. LSU will also be returning to the Cowboys Classic against Miami to open the 2018 season.

Tonight in high school football action Fairpark takes on Northwood and both teams need a win to keep up with Benton and North DeSoto in district 1-4A. The game starts at 7 and will be televised on Fox Sports New Orleans.

Tonight the New Orleans Pelicans continue preseason action as they host Oklahoma City. The Thunder will be without star Kevin Durant who has a broken bone in his foot. The Pels are coming off a nice win over the Rockets. The game tips off at 7pm in the Smoothie King Center.

The Saints will go up against one of their former first round picks when they visit the Detroit Lions this Sunday. Reggie Bush, who New Orleans drafted in 2006, is in his second season with the Lions. Coach Sean Payton says Bush is still an explosive player…

The Saints are coming off a bye week, which gave players like Mark Ingram and Jonathan Goodwin a chance to get healthy for Sunday’s Detroit game.

In NFL action tonight, the New England Patriots host the New York Jets. Former LSU Tiger Brandon LaFell had two touchdown catches for New England Sunday in their win over the Buffalo Bills.

Sophomore quarterback Anthony Jennings is expected to start for LSU this Saturday against Kentucky according to head coach Les Miles. Jennings has started in all but one game this season and is 5-and-1 in those starts.

Sports Illustrated has put Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott on its cover. Prescott played his high school ball at Haughton High School in Bossier Parish. The story apparently says Prescott will consider leaving Starkville after this season.

In high school football recruiting news…Catholic High running back and LSU commitment Derrius Guice announced on twitter that he is re-opening his recruitment. Guice is considered one of the top prospects in the state. So far this season, he’s rushed for nearly 800 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Pelicans will host the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight in the Smoothie King Center. Tyreke Evans is expected to see his first action of the preseason. He’s been out with a hamstring injury that he suffered in an offseason pickup basketball game. The Pels are 2-and-2 this preseason.

Saints running back Mark Ingram was a full participant in practice today. So it looks like he’s fully recovered from that broken hand. Center Jonathan Goodwin was also a full participant at practice today, while tight end Jimmy Graham did not practice because of a shoulder injury. New Orleans is at Detroit this Sunday. The Lions have their injury issues as well. Running back Reggie Bush was limited because of an ankle injury, and Calvin Johnson did not practice because of an ankle sprain. Megatron has said he’s not playing until he feels great.

Good performance from the Ragin Cajuns defense last night as U-L Lafayette improved to 2-and-0 in the Sun Belt with a 34-10 win over Texas State. The Bobcats were held to 270 total yards and Christian Ringo had a 41-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

The Ragin Cajuns had a nice performance on national television last night as UL Lafayette easily defeated Texas State 34-10. U-L-L got on the board right away as Terrance Broadway connected with running back Elijah McGuire on a 62-yard touchdown pass. Broadway threw for 225 yards and one TD.

The 2015 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class has been announced. Former NFL players Kevin Faulk and Jake Delhomme highlight the eight-member class. Chairman of the Hall of Fame, Doug Ireland, says the class also features three coaching legends, Otis Washington, Pat Collins and Yvette Girouard….

LSU’s 2015 football schedule was released last night. The Tigers begin SEC play September 12th at Mississippi State. They’ll also travel to South Carolina October 10th and Alabama November 7th. The biggest home game could be September 19th against Auburn.

Louisiana Tech hosts Texas-San Antonio this Saturday in Ruston. Last time out, the Bulldogs scored 55 points in a blowout win over UTEP. Tech Quarterback Cody Sokul is confident the week off will not hurt their momentum…

UL-Lafayette improves to 3-and-3 as they rolled over Texas State last night 34-10. Quarterback Terrance Broadway threw for 225 yards with one touchdownto lead the Ragin’ Cajuns to victory. The Cajuns are 2-and-0 in the Sun Belt Conference.

The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame 2015 Induction Class features a lot of star power. The eight-member class was announced Tuesday afternoon and there’s plenty of familiar names, led by LSU’s all-time leading rusher Kevin Faulk and former Ragin’ Cajuns star and Super Bowl quarterback Jake Delhomme. Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Chairman Doug Ireland….

The class also features former NBA point guard Avery Johnson, championship throrughbred trainer Frank Brothers, former McNeese State standout Leonard Smith, three coaching legends – Otis Washington, Yvette Girouard, and Pat Collins.

Anthony Davis scored a game-high 26 points in leading the New Orleans Pelicans past the Houston Rockets 117-98 in NBA preseason action at the Smoothie King Center. The Pels shot 54 percent from the field, including 52 percent from three-point range. Former Rocket Omer Asik scored 8 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Pelicans improved their preseason record to 2-and-2.

The 2015 LSU football schedule has been released. The Tigers will open the season next year at home on September 5th against McNeese State. They will then travel to face Mississippi State on September 12. The following week LSU is back at Tiger Stadium to take on Auburn. It’s back on the road Sept. 26th to play at Syracuse. The Tigers will be at Alabama on November 7th.

LSU Coach Les Miles says its his hope quarterback Brandon Harris will get a chance to play Saturday against Kentucky. Miles says they wanted to get Harris on the field against Florida, but the opportunity never presented itself. Jennings is expected to start against the Wildcats. The last time he played in Tiger Stadium, he was booed off the field after committing three turnovers.

The 2015 Lousiaina Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class was announced today and it’s a star-studded group of individuals, led by LSU’s all-time leading rusher Kevin Faulk. Former Ragin Cajuns star Jake Delhomme is also part of the class, and so is former ULM football coach Pat Collins, ex LSU and Cajuns softball coach Yvette Girouard and NBA player and coach Avery Johnson, who is from New Orleans and played at Southern. They will be officially enshrined on Saturday, June 27th.

The SEC will announce conference football games for the 2015 season tonight at six P-M. And the league has also announced that Commissioner Michael Slive will retire next summer. He’s been serving in that position for 13 years.

The Pelicans make their first appearance in the Smoothie King Center tonight as they host Houston in preseason action. Tyreke Evans will not play tonight, as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury he suffered during an offseason pick-up game. Evans hopes he can play on Thursday.

It’s Gameday for the Ragin Cajuns football team tonight as they’ll face Texas State in a game that can be seen on ESPN Two at seven o’ clock in San Marcos, Texas. UL Lafayette beat the Bobcats 48-24 last season and both teams this year are 1-and-0 in league play.

After two straight games on the road, LSU begins a three-game homestand this Saturday against Kentucky. The 5-and-1 Wildcats are a much improved team over last season and Coach Les Miles says he’s impressed with Kentucky’s offense…

Miles hopes Quarterback Brandon Harris will get to play this Saturday, after not getting on the field in the win over Florida.

Bad news for former LSU Tiger Stevan Ridley. The Patriots running back is reportedly out for the season, because of a torn ACL. Ridley has 340 rushing yards this season and two touchdowns.

The Saints are at Detroit this Sunday. Lions running back Reggie Bush says he’ll play after missing last Sunday because of a sprained ankle. It will be the first time Bush faces the Saints, since he was traded by the Black and Gold in 2011. Detroit’s supestar receiver Calvin Johnson also didn’t play Sunday, because of a high ankle sprain. Johnson may have to miss two more games, before he can play.

In the High school football polls…St. Thomas More in Lafayette remains ranked number one in Four-A. But district rival Breaux and South Terrebonne have moved into the top ten at number nine and ten respectively.

Tonight in NBA action….The Pelicans host Houston in the Smoothie King Center. These two teams were involved in a trade in the offseason that sent big man Omer Asik to New Orleans.

The UL Lafayette football team gets some national TV exposure tonight as they visit Texas State in a game that will be televised by ESPN 2 at six P-M. The Ragin Cajuns easily defeated the Bobcats 48 to 24 last season, but ULL Coach Mark Hudspeth expects a tougher test tonight…

Louisiana Tech gets back in action Saturday. The Bulldogs are 2-and-0 and lead the West Division of Conference USA. They’ll host Texas-San Antonio with an 11AM kickoff. The Roadrunners are 2-and-4 overall.

The Tigers wild 30-27 victory over Florida was win number 100 at LSU for Coach Les Miles. “The Mad Hatter” joins Charles McClendon as the only two coaches in LSU history to win at least 100 games. Miles says one of his players gave him the game ball after the win and he’s glad it was the type of victory that exemplifies how his teams play…

LSU running back Leonard Fournette is the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s College Football Offensive Player of the Week. Saturday against Florida, Fournette rushed for a career-best 140 yards and scored two touchdowns. Nicholls State’s Davin Bovie is the Defensive Player of the Week and Andy Wickman, from Northwestern State, is the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Freshman running back Leonard Fournette got the start for LSU on Saturday and didn’t disappoint in the Tigers 30-27 win over Florida. Fournette rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Afterwards, Fournette said he’s feeling more comfortable…

Fournette will try to make it two wins in a row this Saturday against an improving Kentucky team.

The Saints were off yesterday and will now get ready to visit the Detroit Lions this weekend. Detroit defeated Minnesota 17-3 on Sunday. Former Saints running back Reggie Bush didn’t play for the Lions, but the former first-round pick told the Detroit Free Press that he’ll be ready to play against the Saints. No word if wide receiver Calvin Johnson will play, he missed yesterday’s win because of ankle injury.

Southeastern Louisiana has moved up one spot in the FCS Coaches poll to number eight. The Lions defeated Lamar 61 to 34 on Saturday. S-L-U had 651 total yards. Quarterback Bryan Bennett rushed for a season-high 125 yards and three touchdowns.

McNeese State fell six spots to number ten in the poll. The Cowboys were upset 38-22 by Sam Houston State. McNeese was never able to recover from an early 14-0 deficit.

Grambling State is still not ranked, even though they improved to 4-and-0 in the SWAC with a 28-21 win over Alcorn State. The Tigers are the lone undefeated team in SWAC play.

UL Lafayette heads out tonight for tomorrow’s game against Texas State, which will air on ESPN Two at seven o’ clock. Both teams are 1-and-0 in the Sun Belt. The Cajuns won this matchup last year, beating the Bobcats 48-24.
