Six Pelicans scored in double figures as they were able to hold off the Toronto Raptors last night 100-97. Luke Babbitt lead the way for New Orleans with 18, followed by Alexis Ajinca’s 16. Despite the absence of Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson due to injury, the Pels improve to 29-27 on the season, two games behind Oklahoma City for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference.

In college basketball, Northwestern State flies past Nicholls State 79-57. The Demons’ Zeek Woodley lead all scorers with 25, while the Colonels were lead by T.J. Carpenter’s 19. Northwestern State is 11-4 in the Southland and have now won four in a row.

Also in the Southland, Nate Frye scored 17 and Kevin Brown added 13 as UNO edged Southeastern Louisiana 74-73. The Privateers improve to 4-10 in league play, while the Lions fall to 6-8. Southeastern is in eighth place and holding on to that final conference tournament spot.

In the SWAC, Jamel Waters hit a jump shot with a half second remaining to give Alabama State a 56-54 win over Southern last night. The Jags were lead by Trelun Banks’ 11 points. The loss puts Southern a game and a half out of first place in the SWAC behind Alabama State and Texas Southern.

LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri announced that freshman outfielder Beau Jordan will undergo knee surgery Thursday to repair a tear in his lateral meniscus. Mainieri says it’s possible Jordan could be back in four to six weeks, but if the injury is worst than feared, the former Barbe star could sit out the rest of the season.

Louisiana Tech’s Tyler Clancy has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the week. The junior left-hander threw seven innings of one-hit baseball in the Bulldogs win over Arkansas Pine Bluff on Friday.

Because of inclement weather, ULM has moved up the start time for its baseball game against Southern Miss this afternoon. First pitch is now scheduled at four P-M.

Northwestern State’s game at 25th ranked Baylor today has been cancelled. But the two teams hope to play tomorrow at four P-M.

NOLA.com and the Times Picayune reports the Saints could release six-time Pro Bowl guard Jahri Evans if he doesn’t agree to a restructed contract. Evans is scheduled make 7.5 million dollars in salary and bonuses in 2015 and it would amount to an 11-million dollar hit to the salary cap.

LSU cornerback Jalen Collins run a 4.48 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. That’s the third fastest time among cornerbacks. Some analysts say Collins could be a first round pick.

In college baseball…LSU has moved up to number three in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. The Tigers swept Boston College this past weekend and they are ranked behind Virginia and TCU.

LSU rebounded from a midweek loss to Nicholls State to sweep Boston College in a doubleheader yesterday. The Tigers won the first game 8-3 as Danny Zardon drove in three runs and then won the nightcap seven to four as Jared Foster scored three times.

Louisiana Tech swept a doubleheader from Arkansas Pine-Bluff to extend its win streak to three games. Left-hander Tyler Clancy threw seven innings, allowing just one run to get the victory in game one.

U-L-M also swept its doublehader with Stephen F Austin. Alex Hermeling threw eight scoreless innings in game one. The Ragin Cajuns knocked off Stony Brook seven to three in their home opener. Nick Thurman had a couple of RBIs.

In the Southland…Bradley blanked McNeese State 5-0, Northwestern State split a doubleheader with Creighton, Nicholls State knocked off North Florida 4-3, UT Arlington blanked Southeastern Louisiana 7-0 and Grambling over Southern 6-1.
Saints Owner Tom Benson announces that the franchise will not raise ticket prices for the 2015 seasons. Benson made the announcement with a letter that’s posted on the team’s website. Benson also added that they are currently working on significant investments to enhance the fan experience in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and will announce those plans shortly.

The Pelicans played a disappointing game in their first contest back from the All-Star break as New Orleans lost to the Orlando Magic 95-84 last night. Anthony Davis returned from an injured shoulder, but was just 5-of-15 from the floor and had 13 points. Former Ragin Cajun Elfrid Payton had 10 points and 11 assists for the Magic.

Today in college basketballl…LSU hosts Florida at noon. Louisiana Tech has a difficult road game at Old Dominion. ULM returns to the hardwood after a week off to face Arkansas State and U-L Lafayette, who has won two in a row is at Texas-Arlington.

Saints coach Sean Payton has told Pro Football Talk that there are no plans to re-work Quarterback Drew Brees’ contract. The 36-year-old Brees will have a 26-million dollar salary cap figure for the 2015 season. Brees has two more years left on his contract.

Former Nicholls State head coach Daryl Daye is the new defensive coordinator for Northwestern State. Daye was the head coach at Missouri Southern the last three seasons and replaces Mike Lucas, who is now at U-L Lafayette.

In the NBA tonight, the Pelicans get back on the court for first time since the all-star break as they visit the Orlando Magic. Anthony Davis is expected to play. You may remember he’s missed the last two games with a shoulder injury. But forward Ryan Anderson is doubtful, because of his on-going elbow injury. Tip-off tonight is at 6:00. The Pelicans enter tonight’s action a game and a half back of Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot.

Nicholls State baseball is now off to a four and one start. The Colonels beat North Florida four to three. Marc Frazier was the winning pitcher as he allowed just one run over six innings. And lead-off man Justin Holt scored twice. Nicholls is playing in the Cox Diamond Invitational in Pensacola.

The LSU men’s basketball team hosts Florida tomorrow at noon. The Fighting Tigers can’t afford any more bad losses at home, if they want to make the NCAA Tournament. The Gators are 13-and-13 on the season.

Louisiana Tech plays its final regular season road game of the year as the Bulldogs visit Old Dominion tomorrow. Tech will try to snap Old Dominion’s 18-game home winning streak. Tip-off is at two P-M.

U-L-M puts its six-game winning streak on the line tomorrow at Arkansas State. The Warhawks are 12-and-3 in the Sun Belt, a game ahead of Georgia Southern in the league standings. U-L Lafayette is 9-and-7 in the Sun Belt and they are at Texas-Arlington tomorrow night.

Because of the likelihood of rain on Sunday, several college baseball teams are playing a doubleheader today. The second ranked Tigers will play two games against Boston College. After losing to Nicholls State on Wednesday, coach Paul Mainieri has decided to move Alex Bregman from the number two hole to number three.

Louisiana Tech’s home opener is today. The bulldogs will play a doubleheader against Arkansas Pine-Bluff at 3 PM. U-L Monroe will also play two games against Stephen F Austin, and the Ragin Cajuns will play a single game tonight against Stony Brook and then two games tomorrow against the Seawolves.

It was a chaotic day in the NBA yesterday because of the trade deadline. The Pelicans were involved in a couple of deals and it results in them adding a piece to their backcourt. Miami’s Norris Cole is now a Pelican. He’s averaged six points a game during his four-year career. New Orleans is at Orlando tonight.

Shawn Long had 17 points and seven rebounds as the Ragin Cajuns defeated Texas State 64-42.

The LSU men’s basketball team is back in action tomorrow at twelve o’ clock as they host Florida.

Louisiana Tech won a thriller last night in Charlotte to remain in first place in Conference USA. The Bulldogs beat the 49ers 83-82 in overtime. Alex Hamilton led all scorers with 29 points, including four in the overtime period. Michale Kyser had a double-double, 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs who have won four in a row.

U-L Lafayette easily defeated Texas State 64-42. The Cajuns went on a 16-4 run in the first half to pull away. Shawn Long had a solid game, 17 points and seven rebounds and the Bobcats shot 32-percent from the field.

Also last night…Central Florida beat Tulane 69-55.

In the NBA…the Pelicans have acquired point guard Norris Cole in a trade with Miami. Cole has averaged six points a game in his four-year NBA career. New Orleans also gets former LSU forward Justin Hamilton in the deal.

A Kenner woman has filed a civil lawsuit against Saints linebacker Junior Galette, claiming he was physically and emotionally abusive to her during their two-year relationship. Eric Gill reports…

The second ranked LSU baseball team left 17 runners on base in a six to three loss to Nicholls State last night. The Colonels, who at one time led six to nothing in this game, improved to three and one on the season. LSU is also 3-and-1 following the upset loss.

The Ragin Cajuns erupted for four runs in the first inning and went on to beat Northwestern State seven to three last night. Gunner Leger was the winning pitcher as he allowed just two runs in five innings. Joe Robinson also had a home run and a career-high four RBIs for the Cajuns.

Louisiana Tech won its first game of the season yesterday as the Bulldogs defeated McNeese State 12 to 2. It’s the first win for new head coach Greg Goff. The loss drops McNeese’s record to four and one and they’ll host Bradley for three games this weekend.

Former LSU football player Ryan Clark has retired after a 13-year career in the NFL.

Louisiana Tech, who is in first place Conference USA, visits Charlotte tonight. The 49ers are 11-and-14 overall on the season, but Bulldogs coach Mike White calls Charlotte one of the more talented teams in the league…

For the first time since 2009, Nicholls State has defeated LSU in baseball. The Colonels doubled up the second ranked Tigers six to three on a chilly night at Alex Box Stadium. LSU left 17 runners on base and committed four errors in the field. Colonels first baseman Seth Stevens had two hits and two RBIs for the 3-and-1 Colonels.

Elsewhere…U-L Lafayette scored four runs in the first inning and went on to beat Northwestern State seven to three. Centerfielder Joe Robbins hit a home run and tied a career-high with 4 RBI.

Louisiana Tech won its first game of the year as they pounded McNeese State 12 to 2. Centerfielder Bryce Stark hit a grand slam and Bre’shon Kimbell added a solo shot.

Tulane scored two runs in the top of the ninth to get past Southeastern Louisiana five to four. The Lions fall to four and one on the season. And U-N-O scored four runs in the second to hold off Southern Miss seven to six.

The Pelicans have announced Jrue Holiday will miss at least another three weeks with a stress reaction in his lower right leg. Holiday missed 48 games last year because of a very similiar injury. New Orleans is at Orlando tomorrow. Today is the NBA trade deadline.

The U-L Lafayette men’s basketball team hosts Texas State tonight at the Cajundome. The Cajuns are 8-and-7 in the Sun Belt and in fifth place in the league standings. Head Coach Bob Marlin says a victory is important tonight with the conference tournament right around the corner…

After tonight, LSU will host Boston College. Because of the likliehood of rainy weather on Sunday, the two teams have decided to play a split doubleheader on Friday, with game one at two o’ clock and game two at seven o’ clock. They’ll wrap up the series on Saturday with a three o’ clock game.

Louisiana Tech won its first game of the season today and it was the first win for new head coach Greg Goff as the Bulldogs crushed McNeese State 12-to-2. Byrce Stark hit a grand slam for Tech, while Phil Maton allowed one run over seven innings for the win. It was the first loss of the season for McNeese State.

The Pelicans announced today that guard Jrue Holiday will be out at least another three weeks after re-aggravating the stress reaction in his lower right leg. Holiday has missed the last 16 games with the injury. In 37 games. Holiday has averaged 15 points and seven assists a contest. New Orleans is at Orlando on Friday night and they hope to have Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson back from injuries.

Baton Rouge based Marucci BodiTrak has developed what they call a smart fabric to help diagnose head injuries to football players during games. President Curtis Cruz says when an impact or collection of impacts registers hard enough into the fabric, a team official will automatically be notified via a mobile device…
