LSU remains ranked number one in several polls that came out today after taking two out of three from Texas A-and-M. In the Pefect Game Top 25 poll, LSU is number one followed by the Aggies who are ranked second. Texas A-and-M was able to avoid a sweep by beating LSU six to two. The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday night against Alcorn State.

The Ragin Cajuns have won six in a row after sweeping UT-Arlington. Yesterday, U-L Lafayette beat the Mavericks four to one. Freshman Wyatt Marks allowed just one run in seven innings. Kyle Clement belted his sixth home run of the year.

ULM beat Georgia Southern 11 to 1 on Sunday. Justin Stawychny drove in five runs. Louisiana Tech was also a winner yesterday as they defeated FIU 1-0. Chandler Hall drove in the lone run, with an RBI single in the 7th.

Southeastern Louisiana swept Houston Baptist this past weekend and is still in first place in the Southland.

ESPN is reporting the Pelicans have made a max offer to All-Star Anthony Davis that would pay him a total of 140-million dollars over five years. Davis still has one-year left on his rookie contract. Head Coacn Monty Williams believes Davis’ first experience in the playoffs will only fuel him to become a better player…

Justin Rose won the Zurich Classic on Sunday at the TPC Louisiana in suburban New Orleans. Rose finished at 22-under for the tournment, one shot ahead of Cameron Tringale. Rose birdied 17 and 18 for his seventh PGA Tour Victory.

It’s a sad day at Captain Shreve high school today. The Gators head football coach, Richard Lary, passed away from a heart attack over the weekend. Lary had been the Captain Shreve head football coach since 2011, he led the Gators to the playoffs this past season. He was only 49-years-old.

The Pelicans season is over after getting swept by Golden State in their first round playoff series. Even though New Orleans didn’t win a game in the postseason, Anthony Davis showed he’s one of the top players in the league. Davis had 36 points and 11 rebounds in the series finale…

Justin Rose is this year’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans winner after finishing 22-under par. Rose clinched his 7th PGA Tour victory by birding on 17 and 18 to beat Cameron Tringale by one shot.

In high school sports…Captain Shreve football coach Richard Lary passed away from an apparent heart attack over the weekend. Lary has been the Gators head coach since 2009 and was only 49 years old.

In college baseball, the number one ranked LSU Tigers won two out of three games against second ranked Texas A&M. The wins put LSU atop the SEC West standings. The Bayou Bengals will host Alcorn State tomorrow night.

Sophomore Matt Gallier’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th gave McNeese State a Southland Conference series clenching 5-4 win over Nicholls State.

Southeastern Louisiana swept their series against Houston Baptist.  Northwestern State won two of three against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.  And the UNO lost all three games this weekend to Central Arkansas.  Southeastern remains atop the Southland standings with Northwestern a close second.

In the Sun Belt, ULM dropped two of three against Georgia Southern and UL-Lafayette swept Texas – Arlington at Tigue Moore Field.  The Ragin Cajuns have now won six games in a row.

Tulane sweeps Cincinnati after defeating the Bearcats yesterday 9-5.  This is the Green Wave’s first road sweep since 2008.  Yesterday’s win was Tulane Baseball’s 1800 victory in school history.

A big seventh inning propelled the LSU Tigers to a second straight win over Texas A-and-M last night. The Bayou Bengals scored four runs in that inning to help them beat the Aggies nine to six. The big hit was this two run double by shortstop Alex Bregman. Jim Hawthorne of the LSU Sports Radio Network has the call….

The Tigers will go for the three-game sweep of A-and-M at one o’ clock this afternoon.

In the Sun Belt…U-L Lafayette blanked Texas-Arlington five to nothing yesterday. Kyle Clement had three RBIs, including a two run homer in the third. Gunner Leger and Will Bacon combined on a seven hit shutout. And Georgia Southern doubled up ULM four to two.

Louisiana Tech and FIU were rained out last night.

Southeastern Louisiana is still in first place in the Southland after sweeping a doubleheader from Houston Baptist yesterday. The Lions won game one three to two, and the nightcap six to one at Husky Field. S-L-U has won seven straight conference games and they are 16-and-4 in the league.

Northwestern State is trying to keep up with the Lions. The Demons defeated Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi four to three yesterday to improve to 15-and-6 in the league. Adam Oller tossed his fourth complete game and CJ Webster drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.

McNeese State thumped Nicholls State nine to one. Kaleb Fontenot threw eight innings for his sixth win of the season.

Because of the threat of severe storms, they could not complete the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans yesterday. As it stands now, former Georgia Bulldog Hudson Swafford is the leader at 11-under par.

And tonight’s game four of the playoff series between Golden State and the Pelicans. New Orleans will look to avoid elimination. Tip-off is at seven P-M.

The LSU baseball team tries to follow up last night’s thrilling victory with another win tonight against Texas A-and-M. The Bayou Bengals got a base hit from reserve infielder Danny Zardon to drive home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Tigers won four to three. Alex Lange pitches for LSU, he’s 7-0 with a 1.40 ERA, while Ryan Hendrix is 3-0, also with a 1.40 ERA. First pitch is at seven o’ clock.

In other action around the state this weekend…U-L Lafayette hosts U-T Arlington for three games. The Ragin Cajuns are in fourth place in the Sun Belt with a 10-7 league record. The Mavericks are 8-and-10.

In the Southland…Nicholls State is at McNeese State. The Cowboys are 12-and-9 in the league, while the Colonels are 10-and-8. Nicholls has won four in a row, while McNeese will look to snap a four-game losing streak.

How will the Pelicans rebound after a demoralizing loss last night in Game 3 of their series with Golden State. The Warriors down by 20 to start the fourth quarter, closed out the period on a 20-to-5 run and went on to win in overtime, 123-119. New Orleans is now down three games to none and they’ll need to win tomorrow night to keep their season alive.

At the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Hudson Swafford is your second round clubhouse leader after shooting a 66 today and he’s 11-under for the tournament. Former LSU golfer John Peterson is through 36 holes and at six under par and Shreveport golfer David Toms is at five-under.

In college basketball news, UL-Lafayette head coach Bob Marlin announces that Shawn Long will return for his senior season. Long is a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection who averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds a game last season. With Long returning, all five starters from last season will be back for the 2015-16 season.

Louisiana sports produced some highs and lows last night. The high was the LSU baseball team’s dramatic four to three win over Texas A-and-M. Danny Zardon delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth as Jared Foster scored on Zardon’s hit down the left field line. Game two of the series is tonight at seven P-M. Alex Lange will start on the mound for the Tigers.

But the low was in New Orleans, the Pelicans who had a 20-point lead heading into the fourth quarter ended up losing 123-119 in overtime. The Warriors Stephen Curry hit what appeared to be an impossible three point try from the corner with two seconds left to send the game into O-T. The bucket also completed a 20-5 run by Golden State to close out the fourth quarter. Curry finished with seven 3-pointers and a game-high 40 points. Game four is Saturday as the Pelcians will look to extend the series.

At the Zurich Classic of New Orleans….Brendon de Jonge and Greg Owen are tied at 10-under par. Boo Weekly who shot a 64 yesterday and is at eight-under, will complete his round later today. Former LSU golfer John Peterson is four-under as he plays the back nine of the second round.

After one day of the Zurich Class of New Orleans…Boo Weekly and Brendon de Jonge are tied at eight under par. Round one was suspended due to darkness, play resumes at 8 AM. Shreveport golfer David Toms is at even par, former LSU Tiger John Peterson is at two under par, and Justin Rose at 3-under.

A truly heartbreaking loss last night as the Pelicans fell to the Golden State Warriors in overtime 123-119. The Pels looked to have the game in hand going into the fourth quarter with a 20 point lead, but the Warriors tallied 39 points in the final period to send the game into extra time. Anthony Davis scored 29 for New Orleans while Ryan Anderson came off the bench to add 26. Stephen Curry lead all scorers with 40 as Golden State takes a three games to none lead in the best of seven series. Game four is tomorrow night at seven and will be televised on ESPN.

The Warriors won the first two games, but New Orleans will have the home court advantage this time around. Tip-off is at 8:30 and you can watch on TNT. It’s the first playoff game in New Orleans since 2011.

At the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Boo Weekley is your clubhouse leader as first round play continues at the TPC Louisiana in suburban New Orleans. Weekley shot an eight-under par 64 and leads Canadian David Hearn, who shot a 65.

LSU basketball has received a signed national letter of intent from six-foot-four shooting guard Antonio Blakeney. The five-star guard from Orlando is ranked as the nation’s 14th best prospect according to ESPN.

Louisiana Tech football has announced the south end zone club seats are sold out for the upcoming season. The club level has 302 seats and it features all-inclusive dining, cushioned chairs and a five-thousand square foot lounge space.

And Major League Baseball legend Hank Aaron will receive an honorary degree at Grambling State University’s spring commencement on May 8th. Aaron is being rewarded by Grambling for his contributions to professional baseball and substantial charitable efforts. Aaron hit 715 home runs during his Hall of Fame career.

The first NBA playoff game since 2011 will be played in New Orleans tonight as the Pelicans host the Golden State Warriors at the Smoothie King Center. The Pels find themselves down two games to none, but they hope that the home crowd will provide them the lift needed to get a win against the top-seeded Warriors. Tip-off is at 8:30.

The Saints will open the 2015 season against the Arizona Cardinals and then play their home opener on September 20th against the Tampa Bucs. The entire 16-game slate, with dates and times, has been released. NFL analyst Mike Detillier says the final month of the season shapes up well, as the Saints have home games against the Lions and Jaguars and visit Tampa and finish the season at Atlanta. He says that should allow New Orleans to make a strong playoff push….

The Saints and Pelicans have announced plans to make renovations to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and the Smoothie Kinger. The estimated cost is 40-million dollars. The project will focus on improving the fan experience, including new video boards, enhanced lighting and audio systems.

The hype is building for LSU’s baseball series against Texas A-and-M, which begins tomorrow night at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers are ranked number one and the Aggies are ranked second. Jared Poche is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the Tigers and each game of the series will be on television. ESPN-U on thursday, SEC Network Alternate channel on Friday and ESPN on Saturday.

In college basetball action tonight….Louisiana Tech hosts ULM. The Bulldogs beat Stephen F Austin nine to two yesterday, while the Warhawks lost to Southern Miss nine to three. And UL Lafayette, who beat Southeastern Louisiana last night, will host Southern tonight.

Tomorrow night is Game 3 of the Pelicans-Golden State Western Conference playoff series. Jrue Holiday, who missed Game two with a leg injury, is listed as day-to-day. The Warriors lead the series two games to none, but Game 3 is in New Orleans.
