The LSU baseball team’s season ended last night with an 8-to-4 loss to TCU in the College World Series. The Tigers got off to a good start, by scoring a run in the 1st inning, but the Horned Frogs scored three runs in the 2nd inning and three more in the 5th and it was just too much to overcome. Coach Paul Mainieri says it’s tough to see a talented team not reach its ultimate goal…

The Tigers end their season with a 54-12 record.

Game times have been set for LSU’s first two football games of the season. The Tigers season opener against McNeese State will kick-off at 6:30 on September fifth on the SEC Network. LSU’s SEC opener at Mississippi State on September 12th will kick-off at 8:15.

Four LSU football players have been suspended after being arrested Thursday. Quarterback Anthony Jennings, cornerback Dwayne Thomas, and defensive lineman Maquedius Bain were booked on unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling charge. Authorities say the three claim they were trying to retrieve items previously stolen from Jennings. Defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao is charged with simple battery and simple robbery stemming from an incident at a local bar. Team officials say the two incidents are not connected.

A district court judge in New Orleans denies a petition from the estranged heirs of Saints and Pelicans Owner Tom Benson that claimed the 87-year-old is mentally unfit to run his professional sports teams. Legal analyst Tim Meche says a bigger legal challenge for Benson is whether he can change a trust fund set up for his daughter and her children to take over as owners of the teams….

A judge in New Orleans rules in favor of Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson in his competency case. The ruling comes after eight days of testimony that involved Benson’s estranged heirs, his child and two grandchildren, claiming the 87-year-old was mentally unfit, when he made the decision to transfer the ownership of the teams to his wife Gayle, once he passes away. Legal analyst Tim Meche says based on the ruling, the judge found enough evidence to determine that Benson knew what he was doing when he informed Ryan, Renee and Rita Benson will not get the opportunity to run the teams…

Louisiana Sports Hall of Famer John David Crow passed away at the of age of 79 today. He served as head football coach and athletics director at then-Northeast Louisiana University from 1976-80. The former Springhill star won the Heisman Trophy in 1957. He was 79.

LSU and TCU face each other again in the College World Series tonight. This time the loser will be done for the year. Tigers designated hitter Chris Sciambra says after to lose to the Horned Frogs on Sunday, he’s glad to have another shot at them tonight…

Senior left-hander Zac Person will start on the bump tonight as LSU faces TCU for the second time in the College World Series. The loser will see their season end, the winner advances to play Vanderbilt, who they’ll have to beat twice to reach the championship series.

LSU Shortstop Alex Bregman is expected to hit in the lead-off spot again. Bregman says they hope to improve on what they did at the plate on Tuesday…

Last night at the College World Series…Florida eliminated in-state rival Miami ten to two. The Gators hit four home runs and will now have to beat Virginia twice to reach the championship series.

According to 24-7 sports, the LSU football team’s 2016 recruiting class is number one in the nation after receiving a verbal commitment from the top safety in the country. Eric Monroe from Houston reportedly chose the Tigers over Texas A-and-M. LSU has also received a verbal pledge from linebacker Rahssan Thornton, a three-star prospect, who is also from Texas.

Former ULM football coach John David Crow has passed away at the age of 79. Crow coached and served as athletic director of the Northeastern Louisiana Indians from 1976 to 1980. Crow was born in Marion, Louisiana and graduated from Springhill. He won a Heisman Trophy while playing for Texas A-and-M.

Senior left-hander Zac Person will start on the mound tonight when LSU takes on TCU in a College World Series elimination game. It will be second start of the season for the Eunice native, who has been LSU’s best southpaw out of the bullpen. Coach Paul Mainieri says he’s going with Person, because the Horned Frogs’ line-up features a lot of left-handed hitters at the top of the order…

Northwestern State’s Cort Brinson has been named the Southland Baseball Student-Athlete of the Year. Brinson finished the season with a 3.47 GPA, while majoring in biology. This is the junior outfielder’s second individual conference award this year. Brinson was named Southland Hitter of the year after hitting .350 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs for the Demons this past season.

For the second time this week, LSU has received a verbal commitment from a defensive player in Texas. Rahssan Thornton from Killeen, Texas, gave his verbal pledge to the Bayou Bengals. He’s listed as a defensive end-slash-linebacker and picked LSU over Texas, Michigan and Oklahoma. He’s currently listed by 24-7 sports as a three-star prospect. On Sunday, Erick Fowler, a defensive end-slash-linebacker committed to LSU. He’s a four-star prospect from Manor, Texas.

The Tigers also received a commitment from one of the top safeties in the country. North Shore’s Eric Monroe made his announcement on Twitter yesterday. The 6-foot, 180-pound safety from Texas is considered a consensus four-star prospect and is LSU’s 17th commitment for the class of 2016.

Saints linebacker Junior Galette says he plans to meet with NFL officials in New York later this month about his arrest that resulted in charges of domestic violence. The criminal charges were dropped, but Galette still faces a civil lawsuit. Galette told reporters that he’s optimistic that the NFL will not take any action against him.

LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri has announced that Zac Person will start on the mound tomorrow night against TCU. The senior left-hander from Eunice will make his second start of the season. He’s 2-0 with a 3.34 ERA. Mainieri also says the Tigers will stay with the gold jerseys and Alex Bregman will remain in the lead-off spot. He had four hits yesterday and he’s confident the Tigers can win three games in three days, starting tomorrow, in order to advance to the championship series…

Alex Lange is a big reason why the Tigers won. The freshman right-hander allowed three runs in the first inning, but kept the Titans off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Lange says after the first inning, he had to go back into the dugout and regroup….

LSU will play TCU again tomorrow night. The Horned Frogs were defeated by Vanderbilt, who beat TCU 1 to 0 last night.

Now that the NBA finals are over, Alvin Gentry will soon be able to assume his role as head coach of the Pelicans. Gentry is an assistant coach on Golden State’s staff, who beat Cleveland and ended a 40-year championship drought for the Warriors. During last night’s post-game celebration, Gentry said in one of the interviews that Anthony Davis and the Pelicans will win the title in 2016.

The Saints three day mini-camp continues today at the team’s training facility in New Orleans. Former Saints kicker John Carney is there. Coach Sean Payton says Carney is working with kickers Dustin Hopkins and Zach Hocker….

In major leage baseball…former Southeastern Louisiana pitcher Wade Miley earned his sixth victory of the season as he helped Boston beat Atlanta nine to four. Miley allowed two runs in 6.1 innings pitched and struck out eight.

The LSU baseball team avoided elimination at the College World Series by beating Cal State Fullerton 5-3 on Tuesday. The Tigers fell behind 3-0, but LSU finally got the bats going in the third inning as they scored four runs. After a rough start, Alex Lange went the distance for a complete game victory as he struck out ten and allowed six hits. Mainieri says Lange’s performance was incredible…

The Tigers now get a chance to avenge their opening round loss, as they face TCU Thursday. The Horned Frogs lost to Vanderbilt 1-0 last night.

The Golden State Warriors are NBA Champions after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers last night 105-97. The Warriors took the best-of-seven series four-games-to-two. League MVP Stephen Curry and Finals MVP Andre Iguodala each scored 25 to end Golden State’s 40 year championship drought.

Saints backup quarterback Ryan Griffin apparently was administered several stitches after being attacked with a bottle at a Central Business District club earlier this month. Griffin is back on the field for this week’s minicamp. Team officials say they are aware of the situation and Griffin has their full support.

LSU turns to freshman pitcher Alex Lange to keep its season alive as they face Cal State Fullerton this afternoon in a College World Series elimination game. Lange says he’ll use the same game plan that helped him become college baseball’s National Freshman Pitcher of the Year….

Lange is 11-and-0 on the season with 1.89 ERA. The Titans will also a pitch a freshman today. Connor Seabod is 5-and-3 with a 2.84 ERA.

Cal State comes into this game with a 39-and-24 record and the Titans were the champions of the Big West Conference.

Last night in Omaha…Miami eliminated Arkansas and Virginia beat Florida in a winner’s bracket contest.

The Saints begin a three-day mini-camp today at the team’s training facility in Metairie. The practices are open to the public.

Lousiaina Tech men’s basketball coach Eric Konkol has finalized his staff with the addition of Duffy Conroy, who has spent the past 10 seasons as an assistant coach at Milwaukee helping the Panthers get to the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and 2014.

And LSU junior center Darcy Malone is part of the 16-member team that’s participating for Australia in the World University games. The 11-day tournament is in July in south Korea.

The LSU baseball team will look to avoid elimination today in the College World Series when they face Cal State Fullerton at 2pm. The Tigers are coming off a disastrous performance Sunday when they committed four errors in a 10-3 loss TCU. But shortstop Alex Bregman says they are focused on winning…:

LSU is 10-0 in games following a loss this season and they have outscored opponents in those games 96-32. Today’s game will be televised by ESPN2.

It’s being reported that Saints linebacker Junior Galette will not undergo surgery for his injured pectoral muscle. Galette suffered the injury by lifting weights and surgery would have caused him to miss most of the upcoming season. However, doctors told Galette that the injury could be managed through rest and rehabilitation and he could potentially be available for the start of the season.

Darren Sharper pleaded guilty Monday in an Orleans Parish courtroom to two counts of forcible rape and one count of simple rape. This was the final step in Sharper’s “global plea deal” resolving criminal charges in four states. Legal analyst Tim Meche says the understanding is that Sharper will serve his time at a federal prison in California…

Under the agreement, Sharper is expected to serve 9 years in prison, with credit for good behavior and time already served.

The Saints have signed veteran defensive tackle Kevin Williams to a one-year deal. He is entering his 13th year and played for Seattle last season. Williams is a six time Pro Bowl selection, a five time first team All-Pro, and a member of the 2000s All-Decade Team.

And Louisiana Tech announces all 12 of its football games will be televised in 2015. The American Sports Network has decided to televise the four games that were not scheduled to be televised, including the September 5th season opener against Southern.
