The Saints will visit Philadelphia on Sunday to take on the Eagles. Both teams are 1-and-3 and who ever losses this game, will likely not make the playoffs. New Orleans running back CJ Spiller is expecting an intense battle…

In high school football last night; Ouachita Christian edged Sterlington 21-19, St. Louis Catholic downed South Beauregard 30-6, St. Martinville defeated Breaux Bridge 13-6 in overtime, and New Iberia Catholic beat Loreauville 41-14. Tonight’s big games are Neville at Bastrop, while Ascension Epsicopal hosts Vermilion Catholic.

And the Louisiana High School Athletic Association is investigating a fight that erupted in the third quarter of the Karr versus Lake Area contest. The brawl ended the game with Karr leading 47-7.

The Gamecocks are headed to Baton Rouge because of severe flooding in the Columbia, South Carolina area. The Pelicans say a right calf strain will keep center Omer Asik sidelined for the next three weeks. Asik averaged a little over seven points and nearly 10 rebounds a game for the Pels last season. ESPN will televise Saturday’s SEC contest between LSU and South Carolina which will kick-off at 2:30 inside Tiger Stadium. LSU is taking steps to welcome the Gamecocks to Baton Rouge, since technically, this will be a home game for U-S-C. The Golden Band from Tigerland is learning some of South Carolina’s songs and LSU will wear purple jerseys. The Tigers traditionally wear white for home games. But LSU athletics director Joe Alleva says they will not paint the field with South Carolina’s colors…

LSU football season ticket holders have until 5 PM Thursday night to purchase tickets for Saturday’s game against South Carolina in Tiger Stadium. At six PM Thursday, tickets will be made available to the general public. LSU Athletics Director Joe Alleva says at this time they are not anticipating a crowd of 100-thousand for Saturday, but they do hope to have a great atmosphere inside Tiger Stadium…

According to report from Fox Sports, the Saints have decided to keep kicker Zach Hocker on the roster. The team had three kickers come in for tryouts Wednesday, but all left without a deal. Hocker remains a Saint despite struggles that include missing a potential game winning 30-yard field goal Sunday against Dallas. The Saints will face the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday.

The UL Lafayette football team is getting ready for its first Sun Belt game of the year as they host Texas State on Saturday. The Cajuns are a disappointing 1-3 and coming off two straight blowout losses. But Coach Mark Hudspeth says a new season starts this Saturday…

This Saturday’s LSU-South Carolina game has been re-located from Columbia, South Carolina to Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. It will start at 2:30 PM. The catastrophic flooding in Columbia forced South Carolina officials to move the contest and LSU is glad to host the contest, giving the Tigers five home games in the SEC.

In 2005, LSU had to move one of its scheduled home game against Arizona State to Tempe, Arizona because of Hurricane Katrina. So LSU Coach Les Miles understands what Coach Steve Spurrier and the Gamcocks are going through. LSU won that game in 2005 and Miles credits the players…

According to the LSU ticket office, the deadline for season ticket holders to purchase tickets has been set at 5 PM tomorrow. Whatever tickets are left on sale will be sold to the general public at 6 PM on Thursday.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees said he told Coach Sean Payton to take him off the injury report. Brees says his shoulder is fine and he’ll be more than ready for this Sunday’s game at Philadelphia. Meanwhile, the Saints have signed punter Brandon Fields, because of an injury to regular punter Thomas Morestead.

In the major league baseball playoffs…former LSU pitcher Will Harris pitched a perfect eighth inning to help the Houston Astros blank the Yankees three to nothing. The Astros advance to play Kansas City in a best of five division series.

In basketball…LSU freshman Ben Simmons is on C-B-S Sports -dot-com preseason All-America team.

And Louisiana Tech has been picked to finish fifth in the 14-team Conference USA. That’s according to a vote by the league’s coaches. Guard Alex Hamilton and forward Erik McCree were selected to the preseason all-conference team.

The Saints are also reportedly looking at kickers after Zach Hocker missed a 30-yard field goal against the Cowboys. The Saints have reportedly worked out Kyle Brindza. who was just released by Tampa Bay.

The entire ULM football team was at memorial service of quarterback Daniel Fitzwater who died suddenly on Saturday at the age of 20. Fitzwater was a walk-on quarterback. ULM Coach Todd Berry says it appears Fitzwalker died of natural causes, but it’s hard for the players to comprehend…

Massive flooding in the Columbia, South Carolina, area may result in the relocation of the game and Tiger Stadium is one option under consideration. Bonnette says the logistical issues are greater, if the game is played at a neutral site…

This morning, the ULM football team will attend the memorial service for quarterback Daniel Fitzwater who died on Saturday at the age of 20. Warhawks Football Coach Todd Berry says Fitzwater was a great young man and teammate. He says it was very emotional to tell the players about his unexpected death prior to their homecoming game…

Dallas Keuchel threw six scoreless innings last night as the Houston Astros won the American League Wild Card game after shutting out the New York Yankees 3-0. Keuchel held the Bronx Bombers to just three hits and struck out seven. This was the Astros’ first post-season victory since the 2005 National League Championship Series. Houston will face Kansas City in the best-of-five American League Division Series beginning Thursday.

There’s talk of moving this Saturday’s L-S-U-South Carolina game because of the deadly flooding that’s occurred in the Palmetto State. If the game can’t be played in Columbia, South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner says a neutral site location is a possibility and so is playing the game in Tiger Stadium.

A memorial service for ULM quarterback Daniel Fitzwater is set for 11am tomorrow morning at Calvary Baptist in Shreveport. The 20-year-old suddenly passed away Saturday and according to the family the cause of death had not yet been determined. ULM learned of Fitzwater’s death just hours before the homecoming game against George Southern.

Miles says he’s not afraid to shuffle the line-up in order to get more production out of his receivers.

LSU is scheduled to play South Carolina this Saturday, but can they play in Columbia, because of the historic flooding that’s taking place in the Palmetto state. South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner says there have been discussions about moving the game to another city, possibly Baton Rouge. An official decision is expected in 24-36 hours.

The Saints are off today but the coaches are apparently trying out kickers and punters. Fox Sports reporter Alex Marvez says the Saints are planning kicker tryouts after Zach Hocker missed a 30-yard field goal against Dallas. Marvez says the Saints also has four punters in town, because Thomas Morstead is dealing with a groin injury.

The most anticipated LSU basketball season in a long time is underway. Coach Johnny Jones’ team is practicing, but prized recruit Ben Simmons missed the first practice with an ankle injury that is not considered serious. LSU will have 30 preseason workouts leading up to the regular season opener against McNeese State on November 13th.

Nicholls State has broken ground on a five-million dollar renovation on Ray E. Didier Field. Nicholls President Bruce Murphy says the renovation will turn the school’s baseball stadium into one of the best in the Southland Conference. The first phase of the renovation includes a modernized press box that will feature a new sound system and the lighting for the field will be enhanced.

LSU’s passing game took a step backwards in its progression during the Tigers 44-22 win over Eastern Michigan. The Tigers only completed four passes for 80 yards. Coach Les Miles says there were more plays to be had, if they didn’t have several dropped passes…

The Tigers are ranked 124th in the nation in passing, one of just five teams in the country averaging less than 100 passing yards a game.

In a statement, the SEC says LSU’s game Saturday at South Carolina will be played as scheduled. The state of South Carolina is currently dealing with severe flooding issues. Kickoff is scheduled for 11AM at Williams-Brice Stadium. The conference says they will continue to monitor the situation.

LSU running back Leonard Fournette became the first SEC running back to rush for over 200 yards in three consecutive games Saturday night against Eastern Michigan, but he was NOT named SEC Offensive Player of the Week. That honor went to Alabama’s Derrick Henry, who rushed for a career-high 148 yards and a touchdown in the Crimson Tide’s 38-10 win over Georgia.

In the latest F-C-S Coaches poll….undefeated McNeese State is ranked 13th, and Southeastern Louisiana is ranked 17th. These two teams will play each other in a huge Southland Conference matchup Saturday night in Lake Charles.

Fox Sports reports that the Saints will bring in both kickers and punters for tryouts today. Punter Thomas Morstead strained his quad Sunday night during a kickoff against the Cowboys, forcing the Black & Gold to use kicker Zach Hocker as an emergency punter.

In Major League Baseball, the Houston Astros travel to the Big Apple to face the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card game tonight. The winner will move on to face the Kansas City Royals in an American League Division Series beginning Thursday.
