For a second straight game, LSU baseball scored in double digits and for the third straight day they beat Tennessee. Sunday’s final was 10-7 as Bryce Jordan and Antoine Duplantis each homered. Heading into the last week of the regular season, LSU has an RPI of 12 and they are tied for third in the SEC West.

UL Lafayette is two games back of South Alabama for first place in the Sun Belt. The 21st ranked Cajuns doubled up 23rd ranked South Alabama six to three. UL Lafayette has won eight straight series.

In Conference USA, Louisiana Tech dropped two of three to first place Southern Miss. The Bulldogs are in fifth place heading into the final regular season series against Rice.

In the Southland, Southeastern Louisiana’s lead for first place is down to one game after nearly getting swept by UNO. Northwestern State is tied for third after sweeping Nicholls.

The NFL Network reports the Cardinals are preparing to make former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu the highest paid safety in the league, even though he is coming of an ACL injury. The Chiefs Eric Berry is currently the highest paid safety as his annual salary is just shy of 11-million dollars.

The Saints have signed four players following this weekend’s rookie minicamp. New Orleans added offensive tackle Tyrus Thompson, who was a sixth-round pick by Minnesota last year, and they also signed former San Jose State cornerback Jimmy Pruitt, former Ferris State wide receiver Jake Lampman and former Air Force tight end and long snapper Garrett Griffin.

LSU and UL Lafayette will both host NCAA Softball regionals this weekend. McNeese is heading to the Baton Rouge regional.

The LSU baseball team had another big weekend. After scoring 11 runs on Saturday to clinch a series victory over Tennessee, the Tigers scored in double digits again on Sunday as they won 10-7 to complete a sweep of the Volunteers. LSU hosts Northwestern State on Tuesday and then number one ranked Florida travels to Baton Rouge to begin a three-game series on Thursday.

No. 21 UL-Lafayette defeated No. 23 South Alabama 6-3 to claim the team’s 8th straight series of the year and 11th of the season. The win moves the Ragin Cajuns two games back of the Jaguars for first place in the Sun Belt. They’ll host ULM in a three-game series starting Thursday. The Warhawks dropped a 7-6 decision to Little Rock Sunday.

Back to college baseball: Louisiana Tech dropped the series finale Sunday to No. 16 Southern Miss by a score of 2-0. Despite the Conference USA series loss, the Bulldogs will compete in the league championship, as they secured their spot in the tournament Friday night with a 7-5 win over the Golden Eagles.

Southeastern Louisiana dodged a sweep attempted by UNO Sunday as The Lions claimed a 4-3 victory Sunday over the Privateers. SLU can clinch a Southland regular season title and the No 1 seed at the conference tournament with two wins against Central Arkansas next weekend.

McNeese State kept their postseason hopes alive with a 6-4 victory over Central Arkansas Sunday to clinch their final Southland Conference series of the regular season in Lake Charles.

Northwestern State completed a three game series sweep over Nicholls State over the weekend. The Demons picked up the 6-3 win on Sunday in Thibodaux.

The SEC tournament champs LSU softball team learned last night that they are the 10th seeded team nationally and The Lady Tigers will play Long Island in the opening round of the NCAA tournament at the Baton Rouge regional Friday. Also in the regional at Tiger Park this weekend is McNeese State. The 14th seeded UL-Lafayette softball team will host in the regional round and play Boston U Friday.

LSU Sophomore right-hander Alex Lange limited Tennessee to one run through 8 innings last night in Knoxville, as the 11th ranked Tigers edged the Vols 2-1. Shortstop Kramer Robertson provided the game winning RBI. Chris Blair on the call on the LSU Sports Radio Network…:

LSU increased its win streak to six games. The two teams meet in game 2 of the series this afternoon at 1pm. The contest will be televised on the SEC Network.

21st ranked UL-Lafayette fell 3-2 in a pitcher’s duel to South Alabama on the road. The loss moves the Ragin’ Cajuns four games behind the 23rd ranked Jaguars for first place in the league. All three South Alabama runs in the contest were unearned as Louisiana committed the only two errors on the night. The two teams meet again today at 6:30.

Louisiana Tech defeated the top-ranked team in Conference USA with a 7-5 win over No. 16 Southern Miss last night on the road. The series-opening victory officially clinched a spot for The Bulldogs in the 2016 C-USA Baseball Championship.

The McNeese baseball team fell in an extra inning contest with Central Arkansas as the Bears squeaked by with a 5-4 victory over the Cowboys in Lake Charles.

Nicholls State dropped a 13-4 decision to in-state rival Northwestern State in Thibodaux. The teams will meet for game two at 6 p.m. today.

ULM picked up a 4-1 victory over Little Rock last night in Monroe for the Warhawks third consecutive win.

UNO scored 6 in the 10th inning to topple Southeastern 15-9. Tulane held on to first place in the American Athletic Conference, beating Memphis 1-0 Friday.

The No. 12 LSU softball team advanced in the 2016 SEC Tournament following a 3-1 win over Tennessee in 8 innings to send the team to its first tournament championship game since 2010. The Tigers will now face Auburn at 4pm today.

Louisiana Tech begins a huge series with 16th ranked Southern Miss tonight. The Bulldogs are in fifth place in the Conference USA standings, while the Golden Eagles are tied first place with Rice. Tech is playing really well, they’ve won six in a row and 15 of its last 17. Southern Miss enters today’s action leading CUSA with a team batting average of .306.

Rookie minicamp begins today for the Saints. New Orleans has two-dozen rookies that will participate in five practices over a three-day period. In last year’s rookie minicamp, cornerback Delvin Breaux and wide receiver Willie Snead turned enough heads that they ended up playing significant roles on the 2015 team.

It’s day two of the state baseball tournament in Sulphur and there’s plenty of semi-final action. The highest seed left is Acadiana and the 15th seeded Wrecking Rams will face 11th seeded Byrd in a Class Five-A semi-final contest. The other semi-final has two-time defending champion Barbe taking on Catholic. In the One-A semis…it’s Vermilion Catholic against Oak Grove and top-seeded Central Catholic faves fifth seeded Hanson Memorial.

In yesterday’s action….West Ouachita and Teurlings Catholic advanced to the Class Four-A championship game. In Class B…Fairview is in the title game for a third consecutive year as they defeated Glenmora 14-9. The Panthers will play Grace Christian on Saturday at noon. The Warriors are looking for their first state title in baseball.

In last year’s rookie minicamp, cornerback Delvin Breaux and wide receiver Willie Snead turned enough heads that they ended up playing significant roles on the 2015 team.

CBS-sports-dot-com says LSU running back Leonard Fournette and his family have paid for two ten-million dollar insurance policies in the event he suffers a career-ending injury during his junior season with the Tigers. The story goes on to say premiums for these polices cost about eight-thousand dollars for every one-million dollars of coverage.

At the state baseball tournament in Sulphur….West Ouachita and Teurlings Catholic advance to the Class Four-A state championship game. Fairview, Grace Christian, Claiborne Christian and Downsville were also winners. Today, it’s the Five-A semifinals…Acadiana faces Byrd and two-time defending champ Barbe takes on Catholic High.

The Rally Possum must have been in South Bend on Wednesday to help LSU sweep Notre Dame in a doubleheader. The Tigers took game one, one to nothing on Jake Fraley’s solo blast over the wall. LSU won the nightcap 3-2 as Bryce Jordan delivered a two-run single in the 7th. The Rally Possum and the Tigers are in Knoxville for the start of a three-game series tomorrow night.

There’s a couple of other big weekend series in college baseball. U-L Lafayette is at South Alabama. The Jaguars are 19-5 in the Sun Belt and in first place, while the Cajuns are 16-8. Both teams feature outstanding pitching staffs, as UL Lafayette leads the league with a 3.31 ERA and South Al’s is not far behind.

After sweeping a midweek series from Northwestern State, Louisiana Tech visits Southern Miss on Saturday. Tech is three-games back of the Golden Eagles for first place.

The state baseball tournament is underway in Sulphur. Tonight at seven o’ clock….Simpson takes on Downsville Charter in a Class C semifinal match-up. In Class B tonight, it’s Anacoco against Grace Christian and the Class 4A semifinal contest tonight matches up two Acadiana rivals….Breaux Bridge versus top-seeded Teurlings Catholic.

The LSU baseball team heads to Knoxville today after sweeping a doublehader from Notre Dame yesterday. The Tigers won game one 1-0 as Jake Fraley hammered a home run in the 11th inning and LSU won the second game three to two as Bryce Jordan drove in two runs during a three-run seventh inning. The Bayou Bengals begin a three-game series at Tennessee on Friday.

Louisiana Tech completed a midweek sweep over Northwestern State by beating the Demons five to four in Ruston last night. Demons pitching walked four hitters as they could not hold on to a one-run lead in the ninth inning. It was the 800th win for the Bulldogs at the Lock Shack and this weekend they have a big series against Southern Miss in Hattiesburg.

McNeese State downed Baylor 12 to 7. Junior Will Fox had four hits on the night. Houston edged UL Lafayette three to two, Nicholls knocked off Alcorn six to 4 as Kyle Knauth homered for the Colonels and Tulane trounced Southern 14 to 2.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees’ agent Tom Condon told the “Rich Eisen Show” it’s unlikely New Orleans will redo the final year of the future hall of fame signal caller’s contract. Brees deal is a 30-million dollar hit to the salary cap this year. Condon says the Saints seem satisfied carrying that number right now.

According to a CBS-Sports-dot-com article, LSU running back Leonard Fournette is covered by two insurance policies, each worth 10-million dollars. One covers him if he suffers an injury that ends his career, the other policy covers him if he’s injured and it hurts his draft stock. It’s believed Fournette is one of the most heavily insured players in college sports history.

Tulane football coach Willie Fritz unveiled new Green Wave uniforms on his twitter account today. It looks like Tulane will wear several different color combinations this year, including baby blue tops.

LSU baseball pitchers allowed just two runs in a doubleheader on the road Wednesday as they swept the Fighting Irish, winning game one 1-0 in 11 innings and game two 3-2 in 7 innings. LSU improves its record 33-16, heading into an SEC series at Tennessee that starts Friday.

After trailing by one in the bottom half of the ninth over Northwestern State, Louisiana Tech ended up with the 5-4 victory over the Demons Wednesday night in Ruston. Tech has now won 6 in a row, Northwestern has lost three straight.

The 21st-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team saw its comeback bid come up short as UL-Lafayette fell 3-2 to Houston on Wednesday night.

The Nicholls State University baseball team fell into an early two-run hole against Alcorn State on Wednesday night, but the Colonels climbed their way back with four runs in the second inning and held on for a 6-4 victory.

The McNeese State baseball team got back on track Wednesday evening as the Cowboys churned out a 12-7 victory over Baylor to close out the mid-week portion of its schedule in Waco.

At the SEC softball tournament in Starkville Wednesday, No. 12 LSU picked up the 5-4 win over Texas A&M to advance to a Thursday contest against Kentucky today at 1:30. The Wildcats swept the Tigers during the regular season.

In the Sun Belt Tournament, ULM defeated Georgia Southern 2-1. UL-Lafayette will take on Georgia State this morning in Mobile.

It’s being reported that the Saints are not likely to alter the final year of quarterback Drew Brees’ 5 year, $100 million dollar contract. This would mean New Orleans carries over Brees’ $30 million dollar salary cap charge into 2016.

The state baseball tournament begins today in Sulphur as semi-final action takes place in Class C, Class B and in Four-A. In Four-A…it’s Teurlings Catholic versus district rival Breaux Bridge and the other semi has 3rd seeded West Ouachita taking on second-seeded St. Michael.

LSU and Notre Dame will play a doubleheader today starting at two PM after their baseball game was rained out last night. John Valek the Third will start on the mound for the Tigers, while Riley Smith will get his first career start in the second game.

McNeese State’s game against Baylor last night was cancelled because of severe weather in Waco. The game will not be made up, but the two teams will play today’s scheduled 4:05 contest. The Cowboys are 23-21 on the season.

Louisiana Tech blanked Northwestern State six to nothing for the Bulldogs fifth straight win. Braden Bristo evened his record at five and five by pitching five shutout innings to get the win. Taylor Love homered and drove in two runs.

Elsewhere…15th ranked Tulane topped UNO five to two as Hunter Hope hit an inside-the-park home run. And Jackson State scored nine runs in the 1st inning on its way to a 21-3 win over Southern.

In college baseball action tonight….outside of the LSU-Notre Dame doubleheader….Tulane hosts Southern, Nicholls State hosts Alcorn State. The Colonels have never lost to Alcorn in 24 previous contests. And the 21st Ragin Cajuns begin a five-game road trip at Houston. UL Lafayette is 6-and-6 in midweek games this year.

The Saints have signed second round pick Vonn Bell, who is a safety out of Ohio State. Bell is expected to receive a signing bonus around one-million dollars and his four-year contract is worth nearly four million dollars. The team’s only draft pick that has yet to sign is defensive tackle David Onyemata, who was selected in the fourth round.

Conference softball tournaments get underway today….LSU has won 12 of its last 13 games as it faces Texas A-and-M at 1:30 in Starkville. Louisiana Tech will play at 5 PM in the Conference USA Tournament. In the Sun Belt, top-seed UL Lafayette has a bye, while ULM battles Georgia Southern this morning.
