Tonight is round one of the NFL draft. The Saints have seven picks, five in the first three rounds. General Manager Mickey Loomis says they are looking to select players who can impact the team now and in the future:

Draft Analyst Mike Detillier says 10 former LSU players could be drafted over the next three days. There’s a good chance that Carolina, with the eighth overall pick, will take running back Leonard Fournette. But Detillier says he could see a team like Philadelphia trade up and pick Fournette before the Panthers get to pick…:

Junior right-hander Alex Lange takes the ball tonight as LSU begins a three-game series at Alabama. The Tigers are 10-8 in the SEC and tied for fourth place in the West Division. Lange says LSU has yet to play its best baseball…:

Last nights baseball game between Nicholls and Southern was tied 4 times, but in the end the Jags ended up edging the Colonels 6-5 in Baton Rouge.

UL-Lafayette junior right-hander Dylan Moore was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award Midseason Watch List.

Last night’s scheduled Ragin Cajun/McNeese baseball game between the two nationally ranked schools was postponed to May 10th due to weather concerns. Northwestern State shutout Mississippi Valley State yesterday 14-0.

The same week 13 UL-Lafayette players were arrested on similar charges, an LSU offensive lineman Adrian Magee lineman is also indefinitely suspended from his team for allegedly committing felony burglary.

Tulane sent 11 batters to the plate in the seventh inning and scored five runs for a come from behind 9-6 win over LSU. Freshman right-hander Zach Hess was tagged with his first loss of the season, as he retired just one of the seven batters he faced. The Green Wave have now four straight games in the series.

The 20th ranked Ragin Cajuns won their ninth straight last night as Louisiana downed Texas eight to one. The Cajuns scored six runs in the second inning to make the game a laugher. Junior Evan Guillory tossed six scoreless innings for the win. Joe Robbins hit his fifth home run and drove in four runs.

Northwestern State walloped Mississippi Valley State 11 to 1. Spencer Goodwin was four for six, including two bunt singles. Those two teams play again tonight.

Southeastern Louisiana scored three touchdowns and defeated Alcorn State 21-3. Ryan Byers and Carson Crites homered for the Lions.

Saints running back Mark Ingram has no issues with the signing of Adrian Peterson to a two-year contract. Ingram says he’s been sharing carries with as many three other running backs since New Orleans drafted him. Coach Sean Payton told the new Orleans Times-Picayune that A-P’s role will be very clear and defined and he’ll be a good complement to Ingram.

The NFL draft is tomorrow and Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis says his goal is to draft seven starters. New Orleans has seven picks, including two in the first round.

Over a dozen UL-Lafayette football players have been suspended indefinitely from the team after allegedly robbing a dorm room on campus. Lt. Billy Abrams with the UL-Lafayette Police Department says 13 football players stole items from a room in Huger Hall…

Saints Coach Sean Payton made his first public comments regarding the signing of veteran running back Adrian Peterson on Tuesday. New Orleans needed someone to back up Mark Ingram following the loss of Tim Hightower, and Payton says the former Vikings RB will have a clear role with the Black and Gold…:

Ingram said in a conference call that sharing the ball is nothing new to him. Peterson gets a 2 year deal worth $7 million dollars.

On the diamond, Tulane bounced back from a 6-4 deficit with a five run rally in the 7th inning last night to defeat No. 11 LSU 9-6 in New Orleans. The Green Wave improved to 21-21, while the Tigers dropped to 27-15 on the year.

The 20th ranked UL-Lafayette baseball team used a 6 run second inning to defeat Texas 8-1 last night to extend the Cajuns win streak to nine games. They are now 27-14-1 on the year.

It’ll be No. 27 in-state foe McNeese that now makes the trip down I-10 to take on UL-Lafayette tonight. The Cowboys are coming off their first Southland Conference series win at Northwestern State in 25 years.

Southeastern raced to a 21-3 win over Alcorn State Tuesday night in Hammond. The Lions racked up a season-high 18 hits, knocked five doubles, a pair of triples and a pair of home runs. SLU is now 25-15 on the year.

Also last night, Northwestern State got an early lead in an 11-1 win over Mississippi Valley State in Natchitoches. The Demons are now 14-25.

Thirteen UL-Lafayette football players are suspended indefinitely after being charged with criminal conspiracy to commit felony theft. In a news release, the university said, the Department of Athletics is being respectful of the judicial process and will not discuss the incident.

The Saints have made it official as the NFL franchise has announced the signing of future Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson to a two-year contract. The 10-year vet has rushed for nearly 12-thousand yards, but only appeared in three games last season because of a knee injury. Sideline reporter on the Saints Radio Network, Kristian Garic, says despite the signing of A-P, New Orleans will likely draft a running back later this week…

The Pelicans say Baton Rouge, St. Tammany, Shreveport, Mobile, Pensacola and Jackson, Mississippi have all expressed interest in becoming the home for the NBA franchise’s D-League team, starting with the 2018-19 season. The six locations now have until June 7th to submit a complete and comprehensive proposal to the Pelicans.

LSU Baseball continues its seven game road trip tonight as they visit Tulane. Coach Paul Mainieri knew this would be a difficult part of their schedule…

The Saints and running back Adrian Peterson have reportedly agreed to a two-year deal. Peterson is 32-years-old and played in just three games last season, because of a knee injury. He spent his first 10 seasons of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings and has rushed for nearly 12,000 yards. Saints Sideline reporter Kristian Garic believes A-P has one more good year left…

LSU’s Ed Orgeron says quarterback Danny Etling had a minor procedure on his back and Coach “O” says everything went all right. Etling has reportedly been battling back pain for several months and this surgery is expected to relieve the pain and the recovery shouldn’t last long.

Tulane seeks its fourth straight win over LSU tonight when the two teams meet tonight at Turchin Stadium. The Tigers are ranked 15th int he lastest Baseball America poll. The Bayou Bengals are also in the middle of a seven-game road trip. The Green Wave started the season by losing 12 of their first 15, but since then they’ve won 17 of their last 26.

The Ragin Cajuns have won eighth straight and they are ranked 20th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Poll. UL Lafayette takes on Texas tonight in Sugar Land, Texas.

McNeese State is ranked 27th by Collegiate Baseball. The Cowboys are off tonight, but in other Southland action, Southeastern hosts Alcorn and Northwestern hosts Mississippi Valley State.

In major league baseball news…former LSU pitcher Aaron Nola has been placed on the 10-day disabled list by the Phillies. The 23-year-old has a 4.50 ERA in his first three starts this season.

According to ESPN, former Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson is now a Saint. Adam Schefter tweeted early this morning that New Orleans and AP reached a two year deal. Sideline reporter on the Saints Radio Network, Kristian Garic….:

Louisiana College’s head football coach Dennis Dunn is expected to step down from his position there to become the new coach for Pineville High School. The announcement is slated to be made during a Pineville news conference this morning. Dunn coached in the Shreveport area for 19 years — most of those at Evangel when the Eagles amassed nine LHSAA titles.

After a tough weekend in Lexington, LSU is back on the road tonight to face in-state foe Tulane. The Green Wave have won three straight over the Tigers, including a seven to six decision in Baton Rouge last month. Coach Paul Mainieri says beating a rival is not the main motivation…:

Riding a season-high eight-game win streak, the 20th-ranked UL-Lafayette baseball team will take on Texas tonight in Sugar Land. Southeastern hosts Alcorn State after taking 2 of 3 from Nicholls over the weekend. Northwestern State hosts Mississippi Valley State and Grambling hosts Texas College.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport says the Saints are closing in on a deal to sign future hall of fame running back Adrian Peterson. A contract has not been agreed up on yet, but the number being thrown around is 3-million dollars for 2017. The 32-year-old Peterson appeared in just three games last season, because of a knee injury.

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron says quarterback Danny Etling underwent a minor back procedure this morning, but he’ll be ok. Etling did not perform well in the spring game as he completed 4-of-11 passes for 53 yards and an interception. Orgeron on the play of all his QBs……

For the first time since 1992, McNeese State won a series in Natchitoches over Northwestern State. The Cowboys are 18-3 in the Southland. The Cowboys have a two lead over Stephen F Austin and Sam Houston. McNeese travels to Sam Houston next weekend.

Not a good performance for quarterback Danny Etling in Saturday’s LSU spring game. He was 4-of-11 for 53 yards and an interception. Head Coach Ed Orgeron has said he will not name a starting quarterback until they go through fall camp. That gives back-ups Justin McMillan, Lindsey Scott and Myles Brennan a chance to compete for the job. Orgeron says they plan to put their quarterbacks in competitive situations to find a starter

NFL reporter Peter King reports the Saints are leaning towards against trading for Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler. The Saints have five picks in the first three rounds and King says the Saints believe they have a chance to draft a few players who can contribute immediately.

And Jeff Duncan with NOLA-dot-com reports the Saints are still talking with running back Adrian Peterson and they are still discussing a short-term deal.

For the portion of the game that was played in Tiger Stadium, last year’s starter, Danny Etling, was just 4-of-11 for 53 yards and an interception.

Friday started out as a rough day for LSU baseball. The Tigers lost game one of a doubleheader 12-5 and fell behind 3-0 in game two. But the Bayou Bengals rallied back to win the nightcap four to three. Nick Coomes had a two-run single to tie the game and Antoine Duplantis had an RBI single in the 8th to score the eventual winning run. Zach Hess was fantastic out of the bullpen to get the win. The freshman threw 3.1 innings of shutout baseball to improve his record to 4-0. Because of inclement weather, LSU will not play today and the series will conclude on Sunday at noon.

UL Lafayette and Little Rock were rained out last night. The teams will play a doubleheader at 1 PM today. UT-Arlington topped ULM six to four.

McNeese leads the Southland by two games after beting Northwestern State 13-4. Matt Gallier and Shane Selman each hit two-run, eighth inning home runs.

Louisiana Tech Baseball fell behind 14-1 last night and ended up losing 14-9 to UAB. Rough start for Casey Sutton, who gave up seven runs in five innings and suffered the loss. He’s now 5-3 on the season.

Tulane topped Houston seven to one. Jake Wilsey homered twice and Corey Merrill pitched eight shuout innings. The Green Wave have a two-game lead over four other teams for first place in the American Athletic Conference.

Tonight it’s the LSU spring game inside Tiger Stadium. LSU fans will get a glimpse of the new offense led by offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Head Coach Ed Orgeron has yet to name Danny Etling as his starting quarterback for the 2017 season, but it’s hard to believe he won’t be. There’s a battle to see who will be his backup between Justin McMillan, Lindsey Scott and Lowell Narcisse. Also, a bunch of young wide receivers are looking to have a break out game. It all gets underway at seven PM and you can watch it on the SEC Network.
