All members of the Tulane men’s basketball team who were traveling in Spain are accounted for after a deadly terror attack in Barcelona Thursday. The team has been in Spain since August 9th for exhibition games and is expected to leave Saturday.

The Saints were on the road today to practice with and against the Chargers, in the first of two joint sessions leading up to Sunday’s preseason game. Three days after they return to New Orleans, the Houston Texans — a frequent joint practice partner — show up for another set of combined sessions.

LSU released its non-conference basketball schedule for Will Wade’s first season at the helm on Thursday, highlighted by a Nov. 20 clash with Michigan in Maui. The Tigers open the Wade era Nov. 10, a Friday night, against Alcorn State, with eight of their 12 non-conference contests taking place inside the PMAC. LSU will also travel to Memphis on Dec. 28 for the first leg of a home-and-home with the Tigers.

All members of Tulane’s basketball team are accounted for and safe, following a deadly attack in Barcelona. The team and staff are a group of 30 people from Tulane, taking part in a 10-day basketball tour. The team was taking a day off when a van slammed into a crowd of pedestrians in a popular tourist area.

LSU will air the first three Coach “O” radio shows in the South Stadium Club at Tiger Stadium due to construction taking place at TJ Ribs on South Acadian Thruway. The first radio show airs Wednesday.

Two Plaquemines Parish men got a four-day jump on the rest of Louisiana inshore shrimping fleet, according to LDWF. Agents cited 26-year-old Michael Bourgeois and 40-year-old Toby Brown of Boothville skimming for shrimp. The season doesn’t open until tomorrow.

Louisiana Tech Athletics Director Tommy McClelland announced today that all 13 of the premium seating suites within the Joe Aillet have been sold. Workers are putting the final touches on the facility’s new press box and luxury suites which will be completed over the next few days.

The New Orleans Saints have fired two team doctors after they misdiagnosed cornerback Delvin Breaux’s leg injury. The initial thought was that the veteran had a contusion, but the latest X-Ray showed it was actually a fracture meaning he’ll miss 4-6 weeks. Coach Sean Payton says the oversight was a significant setback that slowed down the progress of Breaux’s recovery:

There were rumors going around this week that the team was shopping Breaux for a trade because of frustrations over his injuries.

The news of the doctors’ terminations, who worked for both of Tom Benson’s franchises, sparked a series of reactions from former Saints and a former Pelican. Breaux himself tweeted that life is great.

There is a new Tiger on the campus of LSU, but he’s not Mike VII just yet. Officials with the university say 11-month old Harvey is currently in a night house where he will be monitored by veterinarians for at least a week while they determine if he’s healthy and a good fit for LSU. Harvey was donated to LSU from a sanctuary in Florida, called “Wild at Heart Wildlife Center.” Mikes IV, V and VI were also donated to LSU from rescue facilities.

Beer and Wine are coming to a new portion of Tiger Stadium for the upcoming season. The university announced on Wednesday that the Skyline Club, which will be located on top of the south deck of Death Valley, will feature an all-you-can eat special menu that is included in the price of the ticket. Additional menu items along with beverages, including beer and wine, will be available for an additional cost.

The Sun Belt released its 2018 and 2019 conference football schedules on Wednesday.

It’s move in day at LSU, and the students and the football players weren’t the only ones settling in to a new spot. The school announced today that a new tiger has arrived onto campus, and he could possibly become Mike VII. “Harvey,” arrived on campus August 15 and is currently being housed in the night house of the tiger habitat. Before he can become the school’s mascot, he has to be observed by LSU vets for one week to ensure he’s a good fit for LSU, but until he’s introduced he is not Mike VII.

Saints Coach Sean Payton has confirmed that cornerback Delvin Breaux will have surgery to repair a broken leg. News broke earlier Wednesday that two doctors with the team had been fired for initially diagnosing Breaux’s injury as a bone contusion. Saints Sideline Reporter Kristian Garic…:

Louisiana Tech wrapped up one of the more grueling days of fall camp on Wednesday as the team spent two hours in full pads on the campus practice fields. Tech head coach Skip Holtz says these August afternoons are where it gets hard. He says they are working to keep injury levels down and getting a lot of work in against each other, and it was another physical day.

LSU running back Derrius Guice and linebacker Arden Key have both been named to the 2017 CBS Sports Preseason All-America First Team, and Sports Illustrated’s 2017 Preseason ALl-America First Team. The Tigers will play BYU in the season opener on Saturday, Sept. 2.

LSU has announced it is turning the south end zone upper seating area in Tiger Stadium into a premium seating space they are calling the Skyline Club, where fans will be able to purchase beer and wine. The tickets are $45-$120 depending on the game, and the area will feature an all-you-can eat special menu that is included in the price of the ticket.

LSU Head football coach Ed Orgeron has been raving about true freshman quarterback Myles Brennan, and so are his teammates. Brennan has even been taking first team snaps at practice this week. Danny Etling still has the starting QB job, and Coach O has said nobody has beat him out. Etling says he’s excited about Brennan and he wants to share his own veteran knowledge with all of LSU’s young quarterbacks…:

Just a day after he announced he’d be leaving LSU, quarterback Lindsey Scott signed with East Mississippi Community College.

LSU baseball players that participated in summer collegiate leagues are returning to Baton Rouge, ready to begin fall semester classes on Monday. The summer league competition aims to sharpen skills for the 2018 season as LSU seeks to earn its seventh straight NCAA Tournament National Seed and advance to the College World Series for the fourth time in six years.

The Southeastern Louisiana athletics ticket office says it will have a block of tickets for the Lion football team’s season opener against UL-Lafayette on sale starting today. The game in Cajun Field will be held September 2nd.

UL-Lafayette finally got to practice outside and Coach Mark Hudspeth was in high spirits following Tuesday’s drills. He said there was a lot of effort which he felt was missing on Monday. Hudspeth said the Ragin Cajuns closed yesterday’s practice with a 25 play scrimmage, the team’s first since Saturday, and there was a noticeable improvement in performance.

In national sports news, Tiger Woods had Vicodin, Xanax, Dilaudid, Ambien and THC in his system when he was arrested for DUI, according to a toxicology report.

Just a day after he announced he’d be leaving LSU, quarterback Lindsey Scott has already landed on another team. The Zachary High star signed with East Mississippi Community College today. EMCC has won three junior college national championships in coach Buddy Stephens’ 9 years there. In 2016, Scott was the top-ranked quarterback in Louisiana and the 26th-ranked dual-threat QB in the nation, according to 247Sports.

The New Orleans Pelicans schedule is out and they are slated to play the Warriors and Cavs in their first two home games of the season. The Pels start their season on October 18th on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies, then make their Smoothie King Center debut for 2017-2018 against the NBA Champ Golden State.

Saints coach Sean Payton said of the rumors that the team was planning to trade Delvin Breaux, that he would never comment on that kind business. But added it’s normal to discuss players or possible trades during training camp.

UL-Lafayette Head coach Mark Hudspeth says a could-be starting quarterback has not been able to practice due to a non-football related injury. He said Senior Darius Hoggins fell and broke his jaw while he was walking and looking at his cell phone. Hoggins hasn’t been practicing and he could miss the start of the season as he also dislodged some of his teeth.

LSU is moving its football fan day to the spring instead of holding the annual event this month. Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette says Coach O is really focused on making the spring game a bigger, day-long event that will attract more fans…:

The New Orleans Pelicans have released their 2017-18 schedule, and once again the Pels will open their home slate against the Golden State Warriors. Then they’ll face the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Smoothie King Center. New Orleans opens the season on Oct. 18 on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies.

As the Ragin Cajuns open week three of Fall Camp, Coach Mark Hudspeth said they are still working with some of the new and young players to follow the scheme of the plays they are presented…:

Good news for the Saints. It looks like center Max Unger is moving closer to a full return to action. He had foot surgery in May and has been rehabbing, but today he was back on the practice field and went through stretching exercises with the rest of the team.

 

The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced that rookie running back Leonard Fournette won’t play in their preseason game Thursday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a foot injury.

 

Longtime Arkansas football coach and athletic director Frank Broyles died on Monday at age 92. He suffered complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.

 

LSU announced today that it’s moving this year’s Fan Day and all future fan days to the spring. The school says it’s making this move because of facility renovations, as construction is going on at the PMAC, the field house, and the basketball practice gym.

This is the final week of preseason camp before school starts.

The Baton Rouge Advocate reports the Saints are looking to trade cornerback Delvin Breaux. The report says the team is frustrated with the number of games he’s missed because of injuries the last three years. Head Coach Sean Payton would not comment on the report, but did say availability is as important as anything else. Payton also said he’s optimistic starting center Max Unger will see playing time in the third preseason game.

Former LSU running back Leonard Fournette will not see any time on the field over the next two days because of a nagging foot injury. Fournette played in Jacksonville’s preseason opener, but he missed several games at LSU last year because of a foot injury suffered in preseason camp.

The NBA releases its regular season schedule tonight at 5:00. ESPN announced last week that the Pelicans will host the defending champs, Golden State, during the first week of the regular season, which is expected to begin sooner this season, in order to avoid back-to-back games.
