The 52 points scored ties a club record for second most points scored in one game and the Black and Gold forced five turnovers, which is the most ever in the Sean Payton era. But Payton is not pleased about his team almost allowing the Lions to rally back from a 35-point deficit…

New Orleans is now 3-and-2 and they have a good chance at winning its fourth straight game this Sunday in Green Bay. That’s because Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone and could miss the rest of the season.

The LSU Tigers are once again ranked in the Top 25 polls after their historic come from behind win over Auburn. LSU trailed by 20 points, but roared back to beat their SEC West rival 27-23. It was another wild Sunday in the NFL; and the Saints game was no exception. The Black and Gold nearly blew a 35-point lead, but an opportunistic defense preserved a 52-38 victory over the Detroit Lions. The Saints offense failed to get a first down in eight straight possessions in the second half, and Head Coach Sean Payton isn’t pleased:

An interception in the end zone by Cam Jordan on a batted pass sealed the victory. Before that big play by Jordan, the Lions scored four straight TDs.

New Orleans takes on Green Bay next, and one of the biggest stories of the day is that Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone and is out indefinitely.

The Pelicans dropped their final preseason game falling to Memphis 142-101. The Pels open the regular season Wednesday against the Grizzlies.

LSU climbed back into the college polls, re-entering the AP Top 25 at #24, following a 27-23 comeback win over 10th ranked Auburn Saturday. Two weeks ago, some wondered if the Tigers would finish with a winning record. Now they are in position to compete for an SEC West title. Head Coach Ed Orgeron…:

In the Sun Belt, ULM had a second half rally…but it fell short as the Warhawks dropped a Homecoming loss to Georgia State 47-37.

No. 23 Nicholls took a 29-20 Southland Conference win over Abilene Christian and the 5-2 Colonels now have its first three game winning streak since 2013.

Northwestern State barely missed a titanic upset of 9th ranked Sam Houston, but the Bearkats ended up with a 40-36 conference win.

Southeastern improves to 4-1 in Southland play with convincing 56-10 road win over Houston Baptist.

Tulane fell to FIU, 23-10.

Auburn arrives in Baton Rouge today looking for its first win in Death Valley since 1999. They won that game 41-7 and it’s known as the Cigar Game as then head coach Tommy Tuberville and several players smoked cigars as they celebrated the victory on the field. This Auburn team is ranked 10th in the country, 5-1 overall, 3-and-0 on the SEC. Because of injuries to tackles KJ Malone and Toby Weathersby, LSU may have to play three freshmen on the line.

Last night in Lafayette, Andre Nunez threw for 232 yards and one touchdown in his first start as the Cajuns defeated Texas State 24-7. UL Lafayette is now 3-3 and 2-1 in the Sun Belt.

ULM looks to go 4-0 in the Sun Belt when they host Georgia State on Saturday for homecoming. The Warhawks are averaging about 10-thousand fans a game, will attendance increase with the team’s recent winning ways.

Tulane has won two in a row and they are at FIU.

There’s a possibility starting Saints tackle Terron Armstead will make his season debut against the Lions. He’s been working his way back from a torn shoulder labrum. Quarterback Drew Brees looks forward to when Armstead can return to the field…

Saints wide receiver Willie Snead and offensive tackle Terron Armstead were limted at practice today. The duo could make their season debut on Sunday.

In NFL action tonight….the Eagles are at the Carolina Panthers. Since New Orleans beat the Panthers two weeks ago, Carolina and Cam Newton have looked much better. They lead the NFC South with a 4-and-1 record. New Orleans is 2-and-2 on the season.

It’s game night at Cajun Field as UL Lafayette will host Texas State for a 6:30 PM kickoff tonight on ESPN-U. The Cajuns struggled on defense in their first four games, but looked much better in the win over Idaho last Saturday. Coach Mark Hudspeth says getting pressure on the quarterback was the key

Former New Orleans Saints and LSU standout Tracy Porter was arrested in Baton Rouge on domestic battery and drug charges. Cops say Porter got into a fight with his girlfriend, and allegedly grabbed her around the arms, neck and face on October 5th. In addition to the charges of battery of a dating partner, police say they found drugs for which Porter did not have a prescription.

Saints Coach Sean Payton calls the trade of running back Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals a “win-win” situation. Payton says the emergence of rookie running back Alvin Kamara made it difficult to get Peterson the number of snaps he needs to be successful…:

The LSU Tigers welcome 10th ranked Auburn into Death Valley on Saturday afternoon. Auburn is one of the top scoring teams in the SEC, averaging 36 points a contest. Meanwhile, LSU is averaging just 25 points a game. Quarterback Danny Etling says they scored just 17 against Florida and they’ll need to find the end zone a few more times this Saturday…

Three starters were not at practice for the Tigers yesterday. Left tackle K-J Malone, right tackle Toby Weathersby and defensive end Rashard Lawrence. They are considered questionable for Saturday’s game.

The Ragin Cajuns host Texas State tomorrow and Coach Mark Hudspeth says Andre Nunez will start at quarterback. Nunez has come off the bench the last two games and provided UL-Lafayette’s offense with a spark. Last Saturday, he threw for 213 yards and one touchdown in a win over Idaho.

The NFL Owners will meet next week to discuss a National Anthem policy. Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to all 32 teams that said it’s time for the league to move past this controversy and he believes that players should stand during the national anthem. NFL analyst Mike Detillier says Goodell remained silent too long on this issue…

The NFL owners meetings will be next Tuesday and Wednesday in New York City.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the Saints will sign linebacker Gerald Hodges, who started 12 games for the 49ers last season. Hodges was released by the Bills in September. New Orleans needs depth at the linebacker position, because starting weakside linebacker Alex Anzalone had surgery on his shoulder.

Disappointed day for U-S Soccer fans as the men’s team was eliminated from 2018 World Cup competition after losing to Trinidad 2-1 yesterday.

Future Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson is no longer a Saint. New Orleans has traded the veteran to Arizona for a conditional draft pick. Peterson had trouble fitting in with the Saints as he only ran the ball 27 times for 81 yards, while the Cardinals have been looking for a running back since losing David Johnson to a wrist injury in the season opener. New Orleans is set to face the Lions at home this Sunday at noon.

The N-F-L has been more about the National Anthem than the game itself recently. Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to all 32 teams, specifying that all players and coaches quote – “should stand for the National Anthem.” N-F-L analyst Mike Detillier says it’s sad team owners didn’t force the issue prior to Goodell’s memo…:

After acquiring him as a free agent over the summer, the New Orleans Pelicans say veteran guard Rajon Rondo is expected to be sidelined his first 4-6 weeks after surgery Tuesday. He was injured in a preseason game on Friday. The Pels open the regular season a week from today in Memphis.

The Ragin’ Cajuns have made an official QB pick. For his first time, Andre Nunez gets the start beginning tomorrow night when UL-Lafayette takes on Texas State at Cajun Field.

The Saints have traded veteran running back Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals for an undisclosed draft pick in 2018. The 32-year-old Peterson had trouble getting carries with the Black and Gold and had just 81 yards on the ground during the first four games of the season. Arizona has been looking for a running back ever since David Johnson hurt his wrist in the season opener. NFL Analyst Mike Detellier says it looks like a good deal for both teams…
