Even though LSU does not have a game this Saturday, they are at practice this week. Head Coach Ed Orgeron says running back Derrius Guice will not practice at all to make sure he’s fresh for top ranked Alabama on November 4th. But edge rusher Arden Key will be on the practice field as he continues to work himself into shape after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery.

Saints Wide receiver Michael Thomas did not practice today because of a knee injury. It’s unclear how significant it is or if it will keep him from playing this Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Fellow wide receiver Willie Snead practiced fully, as he’s not been able to get on the field because of a hamstring injury.

Anthony Davis is day-to-day with a knee injury. He left last night’s game after bumping knees with a player from Portland. The Trail Blazers beat the Pelicans to drop their record to 1-and-3. An MRI on Davis knee was negative. New Orleans is at Sacramento tomorrow night.

Former LSU standout Alex Bregman will bat second again tonight as the Astros look to even up the World Series at one game a piece. The Dodgers are sending lefty Rich Hill to the mound, while Houston counters with Justin Verlander.

The LSU men’s basketball team is getting closer to opening day, which is November 10th against Alcorn State. Duop Reath, Brandon Sampson and Skylar Mays are the top three returning scorers from last year’s team that won just two conference games. Tigers Coach Will Wade likes how Mays has developed…

The Saints are back at practice today getting ready for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. Chicago is 3-4 on the season they have a good running game led by second-year pro Jordan Howard and the defense is much improved over last season. Rookie safety Eddie Jackson scored two touchdowns in last week’s win over Carolina.

Former LSU standout Alex Bregman blasted a homer for the Astros in game one of the World Series, but that accounted for Houston’s only run in a 3-1 loss to the Dodgers. Bregman is the first AL hitter to homer in the World Series at age 23 or younger since 1995. First pitch for game 2 in the best of 7 series is scheduled for 7pm tonight in Los Angeles.

First year head coach Will Wade is quickly making his mark on the LSU men’s basketball program. In just one season, he’s turned over the roster and is putting together one of the top recruiting classes in the nation for next year. LSU will tip-off its new season on November 10th at home against Alcorn State.

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva believes attendance at games in Tiger Stadium would be improved if they started selling beer. Speaking to the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Quarterback Club, Alleva said they have to do a better job of making the fan experience at LSU games more friendly; and he feels beer would be a good place to start. He says hes continuing to push the SEC to change its alcohol policy.

The Pelicans fell short in Portland last night, falling 103-93, even though Boogie Cousins exploded for 39 points. Anthony Davis left the game in the first half with a left knee injury and did not come back. Only two other players had doubles aside from Cousins, Jrue Holiday added 14 and Jameer Nelson with 10. The Pels are now 1-3 and play Thursday in Sacramento.

LSU running back Derrius Guice has been named the Maxwell Award National Player of the Week after his historic performance against Ole Miss. The Club called Guice unstoppable as he became the first player in SEC history to rush for 250 or more yards in three games.

The Philadelphia Eagles look like the best team in the NFC. Carson Wentz threw four touchdown passes as Philly defeated NFC East rival Washington 34-24. Former Northeast Louisiana University star Doug Pederson has led the Eagles to five straight victories and a six and one record.

The Astros take on the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight in Game One of the World Series. Houston starting third baseman is former LSU shortstop Alex Bregman. LSU Baseball Coach Paul Maineri says he’s stayed in close contact with Bregman…

The Pelicans are also on the west coast tonight as New Orleans visits Portland. The Trail Blazers will be looking for their 17th straight home opener victory. The 16 in a row is already an NBA record. The Pels beat Portland in three of the four meetings last year. Tip off is at nine o’ clock.

The Saints may have to do more shuffling on their offensive line as NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports starting right guard Larry Warford could miss the next several weeks with an abdominal strain. Senio Kelemete replaced Warford after he went down with an injury.

Former LSU standout Ben Simmons had his first triple-double of his young career as the 76ers dribbled past the Pistons 97-86. Simmonds had 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Defense has been a big reason for the Saints turn around this season. In the first two games, New Orleans allowed 65 points, in the four games since, they’ve allowed 68 points. Head Coach Sean Payton says defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is putting the players in the right place to succeed..:

The Saints won their fourth straight on Sunday as they defeated the Green Bay Packers 26-17.

The offensive line may have to shuffle once again. According to Ian Rapaport, guard Larry Warford will be out ‘several’ weeks after suffering an abdominal injury. It wouldn’t be the first time this season the Saints had to shake things up on the o-line. Terron Armstead missed the first four games of the season, while Zach Strief is on injured reserve.

New Orleans hosts Chicago this Sunday.

LSU and Alabama will kickoff at 7pm on Saturday, Nov. 4 in Tuscaloosa. Both the Tigers and Tide will enjoy a bye this weekend. No. 23 LSU is on a three-game winning streak after losing to Mississippi State and Troy earlier this season. No. 1 Alabama will roll into Bryant–Denny Stadium undefeated and untested.

Grambling has won seven in a row as the Tigers defeated Alcorn State 41-14. Devante Kincade threw for 268 yards and two scores and linebacker De’Arius Christmas had 14 tackles, a sack and forced fumble and both players were named SWAC Players of the Week. Grambling is now No. 13 in the FCS College Football rankings.

Coming off an NCAA record-breaking night with four pass interceptions returned for touchdowns, McNeese’s Dominique Hill has been named this week’s Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week. McNeese moved up one spot in this week’s FCS Coaches Poll to No. 18.

The Pelicans got their first win of the season, beating the Lakers 119-112. Los Angeles lost a 21-point deficit in the second half, as Pels star forward Anthony Davis racked up a total of 27 points in the game and 17 rebounds. Boogie Cousins added a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

No. 19 McNeese made history in a 55-7 win over Incarnate Word. The Cowboys defense had four pick-sixes which tied an all-division NCAA record.

Grambling State now tops the SWAC after pulling away from Alcorn State 41-14.

ULM fell to South Alabama 33-23. Louisiana Tech lost to Southern Miss 34-27. Northwestern State got hammered by Central Arkansas, 45-17. Tulane dropped a 34-28 decision to South Florida.

There are two big games in Lincoln Parish today. Louisiana Tech hosts Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles are led by running back Ito Smith, who has 733 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. Kick-off is at 6 PM.

At two PM, Grambling hosts Alcorn State. Grambling beat the Braves in last year’s SWAC Championship game and the Tigers have won four of the last five games played between the two teams.

Also, 13th ranked South Florida is at Tulane, while ULM visits South Alabama.

The Saints three-game winning streak has put them in the hunt for an NFC South championship. They visit a wounded Green Bay Packers team tomorrow. Green Bay is without quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who was placed on injured reserve with a broken collarbone. There’s a lot of disappointment in Lafayette today after the Ragin Cajuns were blown out on national T-V. Arkansas State handed it to UL Lafayette last night beating the Cajuns 47-3 in the largest margin of victory in series history. U-L is now 3-4 overall, 2-and-2 in the Sun Belt.

Louisiana Tech is a slight favorite to beat Southern Miss on Saturday at Joe Aillet Stadium. The Bulldogs are 1-and-1 in Conference USA, while the Golden Eagles are 2-and-1, so this is really a must win, if La Tech wants to win the West Division.

ULM is a small underdog to South Alabama as that game will be played tomorrow in Mobile. Kickoff is at 4 PM. The Warhawks should have some success in the air as the Jaguars pass defense is ranked last in the Sun Belt.

Also on Saturday, Tulane welcomes 16th ranked South Florida to Yulman Stadium. The Green Wave are undefeated at home, while the Bulls have won all six of their games this season by two touchdowns or more.

In FCS action, 17th ranked Grambling State hosts Alcorn State at 2 Pm. Both teams are undefeated in SWAC play. 19th ranked McNeese hosts Incarnate Word for homecoming. And Northwestern State hosts 6th ranked Central Arkansas. The Bears are led by former Airline star Haden Hildebrand. He’s completed 68-percent of his passes this season and has 14 touchdowns and five interceptions.
