The NFL trade deadline came and went and the Saints did not make a deal. But former LSU cornerback Rashard Lawrence was traded by the San Francisco 49ers to the New York Jets. That means the Jets will have three former LSU Tigers in their defensive secondary as Robinson joins former first-round picks Morris Claiborne and Jamal Adams.

And in a surprising move. the Panthers trade wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin to the Bills for a third and seventh round pick.

Former LSU Tiger Alex Bregman can help the Houston Astros win their first World Series title tonight. First pitch in Los Angeles is at 7:20 as Justin Verlander pitches for Houston, while the Dodgers counter with Rich Hill. Bregman will bat second and play third base once again.

The Pelicans are off tonight after losing to Orlando 115-99 last night. Coach Alvin Gentry not happy with his team’s play on defense as New Orleans gave up 16 three-pointers. The Pels host Minnesota tomorrow.

The Ragin Cajuns return to action this Saturday as they visit South Alabama. Junior Jordan Davis is expected to start at quarterback as Andre Nunez is still in concucussion protocol. Davis started the first five games of the season, Nunez has started the last two. Also in the Sun Belt, ULM hosts Appalachian State this Saturday.

Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux is eligible to play this Sunday against Tampa Bay. He was placed on injured reserve in the preseason after surgery was needed to repair a stress fracture in his left tibula. Coach Sean Payton says Breaux will be eased back into action…

Saints and Pelicans Owner Tom Benson is said to be doing very well and was expected to be released from the hospital today. The 90-year-old experienced weakness after the win over Chicago and was taken to a hospital for precuationary reasons.

Saints and Pelicans Owner Tom Benson is said to be doing very well after he was hospitalized overnight following a busy weekend of events. A statement says Benson is expected to be back home tomorrow and in the office later this week.

The Saints are on a five game winning streak after beating the Chicago Bears 20-12. New Orleans did a lot of things well – the defense gave up just one touchdown, quarterback Drew Brees threw for 299 yards, Will Lutz kicked two field goals and running back Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara each had rushing touchdowns. The Pelicans could actually end up with a winning record for the first time in a couple of years if they take out The Magic tonight in the Smoothie King Center. New Orleans is now 3-3 after an impressive 123-101 victory over the Cavs Saturday night.

The wild World Series continued to get crazier last night, and the Astros walked away with the Game 5 “W” in Houston over the Dodgers to lead the best of 7, 3-2. The winning run came sliding across home plate on former LSU shortstop Alex Bregman’s single in the 10th inning early this morning — five hours after first pitch. The score was 13-12 in 10 innings. Game 6 is tomorrow night at Dodger Stadium.

Louisiana Tech snapped a two-game losing streak by beating Rice 42-28. The game was tied at 28 late in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs mounted a 11-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a two-yard touchdown run by Boston Scott. Bulldogs Coach Skip Holtz..:

The Saints will look to extend their longest winning streak since 2013 to five games on Sunday when they host the Chicago Bears, who have won two in a row. New Orleans will go up against rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who is two and one as a starter, but completed just four passes last week in a 17-3 win over Carolina.

Without Anthony Davis the Pelicans rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to beat Sacramento 114-106. DeMarcus Cousins had 41 points and 23 rebounds in his first trip back to Sac Town since he was traded to New Orleans last season. Cousins hit a go-ahead three pointer with 2.21 left to play. Recently signed Jameer Nelson had 18 points and four three-pointers. The Pels host the Cavaliers tomorrow night for LeBron James’ only visit to the Big Easy.

On Sunday, the Saints host the Chicago Bears. New Orleans Quarterback Drew Brees needs 12 completitions to have six-thousand for his career. Only Brett Favre and Peyton Manning have done that. Saints wide receiver Willie Snead has practicied fully this week after missing last Sunday’s win, because of a hamstring injury.

It’s homecoming for Grambling State on Saturday. The Tigers have won six in a row heading into this matchup with Texas Southern, who has yet to win a game. The

Southeastern Louisiana hosts one of the top teams on the FCS level this Saturday in Strawberry Stadium. The Bearkcats are ranked fifth in the coaches poll and are averaging 45 points a game. Saints fans had a brief freak-out when Michael Thomas was reported to have a knee injury that kept him out of practice earlier this week. But the second year wide receiver returned to the field Thursday, putting at rest any worries that this may be a more serious injury.

In Demarcus Cousins’ first game against his former team, the All Star racked up 41 points for the Pelicans in New Orleans’ 114-106 win over the Kings at the Golden 1 Center last night. Boogie also had 23 rebounds in the game and is the first NBA player to post that stat line since 1987.

The best college football game in the state this weekend will likely take place in Hammond where Southeastern Louisiana will host 5th ranked Sam Houston State. Lions Coach Ron Roberts says they are facing one of the best programs on the F-C-S level…:

Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas was back at practice today after missing yesterday with a knee injury. Head Coach Sean Payton told reporters earlier today that Thomas’ injury was not significant. New Orleans hosts the Chicago Bears this Sunday.

During his call-in radio show last night, LSU Coach Ed Orgeron said quarterback Danny Etling has very sore ribs and a bad ankle. But Etling says the pain he’s experiencing is nothing like last year, when he lost feeling in his foot and needed back surgery. Etling said today he’s fine.

No Anthony Davis tonight for the Pelicans who are at Sacramento. Davis injured his knee in Tuesday night’s loss to Portland. All eyes will be on DeMarcus Cousins who was traded by the Kings to New Orleans last year. The Pels have also signed veteran forward Josh Smith. Last season, Smith played in China and averaged nearly 19 points and 11 rebounds a game. Tip off tonight is at 9:30 and the game is on TNT.

DeMarcus Cousins returns to Sacramento tonight as the Pelcians close out a three-game road trip against the Kings. No word if Anthony Davis will play after leaving Tuesday’s loss to Portland with a knee injury.

LSU right tackle Toby Weathersby says he’s feeling much better after dealing with heat-related headaches. Weathersby didn’t play against Troy and Auburn. And LSU cornerback Donte Jackson says time will only tell if he’ll leave after his junior season. Head Coach Ed Orgeron told reporters this week that he needs to recruit cornerbacks, because he could be losing both Jackson and Kevin Toliver.

Former LSU standout Alex Bregman says it was the best baseball game ever as the Houston Astros outlasted the Los Angeles Dodgers seven to six in eleven innings. Bregman was two for six with one run scored and he drove in the first run of the game for the second consecutive night. He also made a nice play in the field on a line drive in the 10th inning. Game 3 is tomorrow night in Houston.

Because of possible rain in the forecast tomorrow, several high school football games have been moved to Thursday night. In Southwest Louisiana, Welsh will host the Notre Dame Pioneers. It’s the first meeting between the two teams since 1996 and both come into tonight’s contest undefeated. And in northeast Louisiana….West Monroe takes on Ouachita.
