LSU is a 17-point favorite heading into tomorrow’s 11 AM kickoff against Arkansas. The Tigers are 6-3 on the season and coming off a two touchdown loss to Alabama, while Arkansas is just 1-and-4 in the SEC and barely beat Coastal Carolina last weekend.

The high school football playoffs start tonight. The top seed in Class 5A, West Monroe hosts the Central Wildcats. In Three-A, top seeded Sterlington hosts Baker. Third-seeded Jena will take on Westlake, while second seeded Wossman faces Iowa. In Two-A, Welsh is the umber one-seed and they’ll host Springfield.

The Pelicans got a season-high 34 points from Jrue Holiday last night, but it wasn’t enough as New Orleans lost to Toronto 122-118. The Pels host the Clippers tomorrow.

Today is the opening day for college basketball. Will Wade era begins at LSU as the Fighting Tigers host Alcorn State. Louisiana Tech hosts Texas-Tyler, UL Lafayette is at Ole Miss and ULM visits TCU.

The Saints will be in Buffalo on Sunday. Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott, served as the defensive coordinator at Carolina for six seasons before getting the job in Buffalo. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees says McDermott has the Bills defense playing at a high level…

The Pelicans won the first three games of the four game road trip, New Orleans ended up just falling to the Raptors last night, 122-118. Jrue Holiday posted a season best 34 points. DeMarcus Cousins had 20 points, 15 rebounds and five assists, while Anthony Davis added 18 points and seven rebounds. The 6-6 Pels take on the Clippers tomorrow.

New LSU men’s basketball coach Will Wade says he’s excited about tonight’s season opener against Alcorn State. When asked how he plans to turn the program around and make fans excited about Tiger hoops again, Wade said the key is making the team relatable …:

Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux is not expected to play this season. Head Coach Sean Payton said today he’ll remain on injured reserve after he suffered a setback as he tries to come back from a fractured fibula that he sustained in August. Breaux was the Saints top cornerback in 2015, but the pass defense has improved without him.

This Sunday, New Orleans is at Buffalo. On defense, the Bills have forced 17 turnovers, which is the second best mark in the NFL. Former LSU cornerback Tre’Davious White has an interception and two fumble recoveries and is one of the game’s best rookies. Payton says he’s impressed by what he’s seen from White…

The New Orleans Pelicans can win its fourth straight tonight as they visit the Toronto Raptors. This three-game winning streak started when the Pels started a four-game road trip. New Orleans is 5-and-2 on the road this year. After tonight the Pels will be home for the next five out of six games.

Saints Head Coach Sean Payton said today that cornerback Delvin Breaux will remain on injured reserve and will not play in 2017. Breaux suffered a setback in his attempt to return from surgery to repair a fracture fibula. New Orleans has not really missed Breaux. The team ranks 12th in the NFL in pass defense as young starters Marshon Lattimore and Ken Crawley have played well.

The Pelcians wrap up a four-game road trip tonight in Toronto. New Orleans will play its first game with a winning record since April 2015. The Pels are 6-and-5, while the Raptors are 6-and-4. New Orleans has played well on the road this season as they have a 5-and-2 record.

The college basketball season starts tomorrow. Head Coach Will Wade knows freshman Tremont Walters, sophomore Skylar Mays and senior Duop Reath will start. He’s not sure who will will start at the other two positions.

LSU basketball Coach Will Wade got a big signee yesterday as Scotlandville High School point guard JaVonte Smart officially signed for the Tigers Wednesday. 247Sports ranks Smart a 4-star prospect and the No. 29 overall prospect.

The New Orleans Pelicans (6-5) will attempt to keep the good times rolling on the road when they face the Toronto Raptors (6-4) on Thursday evening.

A Natchitoches Central Coach has been issued a summons on simple battery charges for allegedly being too rough with a player. They say the 17-year-old player reported Coach John Daughtery grabbed his helmet, pulled it off and then pulled him into a locker room by his jersey.

Saints left tackle Terron Armstead and safety Kenny Vaccaro did not practice today. Both players left last Sunday’s game with injuries and did not return. But right guard Larry Warford was back at practice today after missing the last two games with an abdominal strain.

In other news with the Saints, Justin Hardee was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. The rookie scored on a blocked touchdown versus Tampa Bay last Sunday. Head Coach Sean Payton says Hardee is a guy who comes to practice every day and gives you a great effort…

LSU is number 24 in the latest College Football rankings. Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson are in the top four.

ULM will finish out the season playing Florida State. The two schools were set to meet on September 9th, but the game was postponed because of Hurricane Irma. The two teams will now play on December 2nd in Tallahassee at 11 AM.

The Pelicans beat the Pacers 117 to 112 last night. New Orleans is 6-and-5 on the season and its the franchise’s first winning record since April of 2015. Anthony Davis had 37 points last night, while Cousins had 32.

The Saints Justin Hardee has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Hardee blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown in New Orleans 30-10 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday. Coach Sean Payton credits Hardee’s technique for getting the block. New Orleans is at Buffalo this Sunday.

Former LSU Tiger Leonard Fournette says he’ll be on time this Sunday for the Jaguars game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Fournette was inactive for last week’s game against Cincinnati. Fournette used twitter to apologize for his tardiness.

In major league baseball…former LSU Tiger DJ LeMahieu has been awarded his second gold glove. LeMahieu had eight errors this past season, the fewest among all qualified second baseman.

And another former Tiger and now World Series champion Alex Bregman will be at Saturday’s LSU-Arkansas football game. Expect Bregman to get a loud ovation when introduced to the Tiger Stadium crowd.

Thanks to the efforts by All Stars Boogie Cousins and Anthony Davis, the Pelicans were able to power past the Pacers last night, to a 117-112 victory. Davis had 37 points and 14 rebounds, Cousins added 32 points. New Orleans’ record is now 6-5, the first winning record for the Pels since April of 2015.

It’s been a tough season for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Tech is 4-and-5 on the year and have lost three of their games by just one point. The Bulldogs will not be able to repeat as Western Division champs in Conference USA, but Head Coach Skip Holtz says that doesn’t mean they’ll give up on the season…:

The New Orleans Pelicans G-League team will not be calling Shreveport home. A spokesman for both the Saints and the Pelicans called Shreveport’s leadership and business communities ‘”first class,” but the organization has declined Mayor Ollie Tyler’s invitation for the city to host the developmental team.

Arkansas is 0-4 in the SEC and nearly lost to Coastal Carolina last week. They rank 13th in total defense in the SEC, allowing 36 points a game.

Through eight games, the Saints are ranked in the top half in the NFL in several defensive categories. The Black and Gold are ranked 15th in total defense, after finishing lsst season 27th. And they are ninth in scoring defense.

The Pelicans continue their four-game road trip tonight at Indiana. New Orleans is 5-5 on the season and so are the Pacers. The Pels would like to see better three-point shooting from guard Jrue Holiday, so far he’s only 9-of-40 from three-point territory. That’s 23-percent.

Also, the Pelicans have told Shreveport they will not place their future G-League team in their city. It looks like their minor league affiliate will play in Pensacola, but a final decision has not been made.

Ragin Cajuns Coach Mark Hudspeth has announced freshman quarterback Levi Lewis will be his starting quarterback this Saturday against Ole Miss. Lewis was a surprise starter last week against South Alabama and led the Cajuns to a 19-14 win over Sun Belt foe South Alabama.

Three Louisiana schools remain ranked in the Top 25 of the FCS Coaches Poll. Grambling is number 11. Nicholls is ranked 17th and McNeese is ranked 18th. The Cowboys are off this Saturday, Nicholls is at Stephen F Austin and Grambling visits Alabama State.

New Orleans visits Buffalo this Sunday. The Black and Gold enter the second half of the season ranked 9th in scoring defense and 15th in total defense, a big change over what it has been in recent years.
