In a surprising move, the Saints have reportedly waived former Louisiana Tech running back and Zachary native Boston Scott. Scott was on the 53-man roster after cut down day on Saturday after averaging over four yards a carry, while also showing pass catching and kick returning skills. But the re-signing of Michael Ola resulted in Scott’s departure.

LSU’s passing game remains a work in progress despite the team’s 33-17 win over Miami last weekend. There were dropped passes, poor protection and even quarterback Joe Burrow admits he made some mistakes. Burrow also says he didn’t mind just 24 pass attempts…

The Tigers will can work more on the passing game this Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana.

Junior running back Jaqwis Dancy led the Bulldogs to victory last week as he averaged 10 yards a carry and finished with 144 yards and two touchdowns against South Alabama. Coach Skip Holtz says if Dancy stays healthy, he’ll rush for over 1,000 yards this season, which is remarkable considering he was diagnosed with cancer in 2016…

Peyton Manning and Les Miles highlight the 2019 induction class for the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, which was announced today. They will be inducted next June.

And the Triple-A baseball team, the New Orleans Babycakes, are reportedly moving to Witchita, Kansas after the 2019 season.

Chaisson plays the “Buck” position in Dave Aranda’s defense. Sophomore Andre Anthony replaced Chaisson after he suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game.

The Saints are back at practice today getting ready for Sunday’s season opener against the Buccaneers. No Jameis Winston for Tampa Bay, he’s been suspended for the first three games, so 14-year veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick is set to start.

Holtz feels good about his run game after watching Jaqwis Dancy rush for 144 yards and two touchdowns last week against South Alabama.

The Pelicans have signed free agent guard Darius Morris. He most recently played for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League and averaged 19 points and eight assists a game. He was drafted in the second by the Lakers in 2011.

The Astros beat the Twins five to two last night. Alex Bregman had three doubles and drove in two runs as Justin Verlander won his 14th game.

Bad news for the LSU Tigers as Coach Ed Orgeron announced today that edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in the season opening win over Miami. Chaisson is the team’s best pass rusher and needed assistance to get off the field in the fourth quarter on Sunday.

LSU certainly gained some respect with their 16 point win over previously eighth ranked Miami. In the AP poll, the Tigers moved up 14 spots to number 25. Quarterback Joe Burrow says projections of a 6-6 or five win season fueled the team in fall camp….

LSU now prepares for the home opener on Saturday against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions.

The Saints season opener is Sunday against Tampa Bay. Nine months after tearing his Achilles tendon, defensive end Alex Okafor says hes’ ready for the season and believes his tendon is stronger than last year.

ULM Chief Administrative officer Scott McDonald has been named interim Athletics Director for ULM. McDonald is a former outfielder at the school and has spent 33 years in the financial services industry.

Louisiana Tech defensive back James Jackson has been named Conference USA defensive player of the week. Jackson had six tackles, half a sack, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in the Bulldogs road win over South Alabama. The Bulldogs host Southern this Saturday.

After its big win over Kansas on Saturday, Nicholls State has moved to 10th in the F-C-S Coaches Poll. McNeese also moved up a few spots after beating Northern Colorado. The Cowboys are ranked 14th. The Colonels are at Tulane this Saturday. McNeese is at Houston Baptist.

The Saints have released veteran linebacker Nate Stupar, even though he had a productive preseason camp coming off a torn ACL last year. New Orleans needed to let Stupar go so they can sign former Patriots running back Mike Gillislee.

It was an impressive performance by the LSU Tigers last night in Big “D” as the Bayou Bengals took control in the first half and went on to beat the 8th ranked Miami Hurricanes 33-17. Senior running back Nick Brossette was the break out star with two touchdowns and a career-high 125 yards rushing. Coach Ed Orgeron had a good feeling about the Baton Rouge product going into the game…

New starting quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 140 yards and did not turn the ball over. Justin Jefferson led the new look receivers with 5 catches for 81 yards.

The defense sacked Miami quarterback Malik Rosier four times and intercepted him twice. Jacob Phillips 45 yard interception return for a touchdown capped off a 27-point first half.

The Saints have signed veteran running back Mike Gillislee to a one-year contract. He’s played five years in the NFL with the Bills and Patriots. He’ll be a guy who can run in between the tackles, while Mark Ingram sits out the first four games for violating the league’s drug policy.

Former LSU quarterback Danny Elting made the Patriots practice squad. The seventh round pick had the highlight play of the preseason, an 86-yard touchdown run. He also threw for another score in the preseason.

Nicholls State had one of the biggest wins in college football on Saturday as the Colonels defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 26-23 in overtime. Chase Fourcade’s four-yard touchdown capped the dramatic victory. Texas a-and-M transfer Kendall Bussey rushed for 123 yards and had a 40-yard touchdown run for the Red and Gray. Nicholls will have a chance to knock off another F-C-S school on Saturday when they visit Tulane.

Louisiana Tech and UL Lafayette are 1-0. The Bulldogs held off South Alabama 30-26, while the Cajuns defeated Grambling 49-17.

College football fans have been waiting for this day since January, the first Saturday of the college football season. Tonight at six o’ clock, Louisiana Tech will begin the 2018 campaign in Mobile as they’ll visit South Alabama. The Bulldogs have won a bowl game the last four years, but Coach Skip Holtz says his seniors are hungry for achieving a bigger goal and that’s a Conference USA Championship….

Also at six o’ clock, the Ragin Cajuns host Grambling. UL-Lafayette is seeking its first winning season in four years, while the Tigers are expected to start Geremy Hickbottom at quarterback.

Several F-C-S schools in Louisiana have tough challenges on the road today. Southern is at 16th ranked TCU. Nicholls is at Kansas. The Colonels return 18 starters from a team that went 8-4 last year. McNeese visits Northern Colorado from the Big Sky Conference. The Bears were 3-7 last year, while James Tabary enters his third season as the starting Q-B for the Pokes.

The LSU football team will leave Baton Rouge today for tomorrow night’s season opener against Miami. Head Coach Ed Orgeron said they still don’t know who will start at left cornerback or right tackle, but he says Joe Burrow was more sure of himself at practice, since being named the starting quarterback.

The Saints have until 3 PM today today to reduce their roster to 53. Veteran receivers Brandon Tate and Michael Floyd have both already been cut. Running back Shane Vereen has been placed on injured reserve and the Saints are reportedly shopping veteran linebacker Nate Stupar.

New Saints quarterback Teddy Bridgewater says he doesn’t mind watching Drew Brees run the offense for a season. Bridgewater is learning the playbook after New Orleans sent a third round pick to the New York Jets to acquire Bridgewater on his one year contract. Coach Sean Payton says having Bridgewater makes them a better team…

Bridgewater suffered a significant knee injury in training camp of 2016 and has played in just one regular season game in two years, but performed well with the Jets this month.

NFL teams now have to get down to 53 players by tomorrow afternoon and players across the league are finding out they didn’t make the cut. The Ravens announced this afternoon they released former LSU Tiger Christian LaCouture.

And Friday Nigh Lights returns at high school stadiums around the state tonight. Neville and Ruston is the big match-up in north Louisiana, in south Louisiana Acadiana visits Kaplan.

The LSU football team is a slight underdog heading into Sunday’s season opener against eighth ranked Miami. The Tigers have several question marks on offense, but LSU sideline reporter Gordy Rush says offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger has the personnel to have a very good offense…

Despite four touchdown passes by Southeastern Louisiana quarterback Chason Virgil, the Lions lost to ULM 34-31. Northwestern State thumped by Texas A-and-M 59-7, but Demons wide receiver Jazz Ferguson had four catches for 129 yards and one touchdown.

Etling faked a hand off and then ran around the right end for an 86 yard touchdown run. We’ll find out in a couple of days if Etling did enough to make the team.

For the first time in several years, LSU will start the season on Sunday against Miami with unproven running backs. But LSU sideline reporter Gordy Rush says the Tigers will still look to run the ball and he expects good things from Nick Brosette and the other backs…

Caleb Evans threw for 346 yards and two scores as ULM survived an upset bid from FCS member, Southeastern Louisiana. A blocked field goal in the final seconds preserved a 34-31 win for the Warhawks over the Lions.

Also last night, Wake Forest beat Tulane 23-17 in overtime and Texas A-and-M easily defeated Northwestern State 59-7.

The Saints finished the preseason with a 28-0 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Wide receiver Cam Meredith had two big catches, a 56-yard completion from Taysom Hill to set up a four-yard touchdown run by Boston Scott. Meredith also had a 16-yard touchdown catch, which was thrown by Hill.

Caleb Evans 11-yard touchdown run with 37 seconds left gave ULM a 34-31 win over Southeastern Louisiana in a wild game in Monroe last night. The Lions attempted to tie the contest in the final seconds, but Jonathan Tatum’s 37-yard field goal was blocked. Evans threw for 346 yards and two touchdowns.

Tualne lost in overtime to Wake Forest 23-17. Texas A-and-M won easily over Northwestern State 59-7.

Tomorrow, Louisiana Tech opens its season at South Alabama. South Al has a new coach. Steve Campbell takes over the Jaguars after leading Central Arkansas to a Southland Conference Championship last season. Holtz says it’s not easy to prepare for a team who has a new coach, so they anticipate making some mid-game adjustments…

The final preseason game of the year is tonight as the Saints host the Los Angeles Rams. After tonight’s game, the Black and Gold will have to cut their roster down to 53 before 3 PM on Sunday. The starters are not expected to play, but fans going to the Dome tonight will likely see first round pick Marcus Davenport and wide receiver Cam Meredith. Both guys missed a portion of training camp because of injuries.

A low scoring game is expected Sunday night when LSU meets Miami in Dallas. The Hurricanes didn’t allow many points last season and they return seven starters from that unit. And LSU has several question marks on offense. Tigers linebacker Devin White says they plan on shutting down the Miami offense…
