LSU football coach Brian Kelly strongly denies the accusation he was not there for former Tigers safety Greg Brooks Junior following his brain surgery. In an interview on ABC’s Good Morning America, Brooks’ father said no one from LSU’s coaching staff has reached out since October 2023.  But Coach Kelly says HE loves Greg Brooks Junior, and it is factually incorrect to say he was not there by his side through this ordeal…

But an attorney for Greg Brooks Junior released a statement today that said in reality Coach Kelly has not contacted Greg Brooks Junior in over 16 months.

The Brooks family is suing LSU and Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, alleging his cancer diagnosis was mishandled and so was his brain surgery.

There is certainly Kansas City Chiefs fatigue heading into the Super Bowl. K-C is seeking to win the Super Bowl for a record third consecutive year and this is there fifth appearance in the game in six years. Safety Justin Reid from Dutchtown High School in Ascension Parish likes playing the villain in this game…

The Chiefs beat the Eagles in Super Bowl 57 two years ago. Former Saints defensive back CJ Gardner Johnson was on that Philadelphia team. He now gets to play a Super Bowl in New Orleans. He spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the Saints. Gardner-Johnson says it was a surreal moment when he stepped on to the Superdome turf earlier this week…

Bad night for the most part for Louisiana college basketball teams last night…LSU hit nine first-half three-pointers but played poorly again in the second half and lost to Georgia 81 to 62. Georgia State hammered ULM 97 to 64. Georgia Southern edged the Ragin Cajuns 83 to 82, but Tulane topped UTSA 61 to 60 in San Antoinio. The Green Wave are now 7-and-3 in the American Athletic Conference.

Tonight, Louisiana Tech is at Liberty looking for its first conference road win and the sixth ranked LSU women’s basketball team in Missouri at 6:30.

The Pelicans lost their seventh straight last night, falling to the Denver Nuggets 144 to 119. But the big story is New Orleans has traded Brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors for a couple of bench players and a couple of draft picks. Ingram was part of the blockbuster 2019 Anthony Davis trade. Ingram is averaging 22 points a game this season, but has not played since December because of an ankle injury.

Kelly also provided update on backup quarterback Colin Hurley, who was involved in a serious car wreck last month. The coach Hurley is recovering in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida….

Brooks Senior and his son, former LSU safety Greg Brooks, appeared on Good Morning America earlier this week to discuss Greg’s permanent disability that they say was caused by the surgery. The Brooks’ family has sued Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and LSU.

LSU men’s basketball had another bad second half last night and fell to 1-and-8 in the Southeastern Conference with an 81 to 62 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.

There is one player from Louisiana Tech playing in Sunday’s Super Bowl and that’s Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Milton Williams, who had five sacks during the regular season. Williams says it will be special stepping onto sports’ biggest stage in a state he knows well…

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball is at Liberty tonight. The Bulldogs are looking for their first road win in Conference USA play. The Flames are one of the best shooting teams in the league. Tip off is at 6 PM.

Last night, The Ragin Cajuns fell to Georgia Southern 83 to 82 and ULM was blown out by 97 to 64 Georgia State.

Kelly also provided an update today on backup quarterback Colin Hurley, who suffered injuries in a one-vehicle wreck on campus. Kelly says Hurley is recovering at his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. No timetable on his return, but everyone is optimistic he’ll make a full recovery.

Today is National Signing Day in college football. The first Wednesday in February used to be a big day in college football, but that has changed with the early signing period in December.

LSU will add a quarterback to its roster. Emilie Picarella from University High in Baton Rouge will join the Tigers roster as a preferred walk on. He started for two seasons for the Cubs and is a three-star recruit.

UL-Lafayette is set to sign three local players today. Acadiana’s Russell Babineaux, Cecilia’s Brent Gordon Junior and St. Thomas More’s Aiden Falgout.

Southland Conference football schools released their schedules for 2025. Nichollas will host a Week Zero game against conference rival Incarnate Word on August 23rd in Thibodaux. Northwestern State will kick off its season August 28th against Alcorn State.

Former Neville star John Diarse is the new head football coach at Wossman High School. Diarse was the offensive coordinator at Slidell last season and takes over a program that went six and six last year.

Kansas City is seeking its fourth Super Bowl title in five years on Sunday. Is it possible Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will call it quits after Super Bowl 59. Reid says no….

Super Bowl 59 is a full-circle moment for Eagles quarterback coach Doug Nussmeier, who is the father of LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. Doug Nussmeier was drafted by the Saints in 1994 in the fourth round and appeared in five games during the 1996 and 1997 seasons…

Eagles Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore received a lot of attention during Super Bowl Media Day. That’s because the 36-year-old is expected to be named the new head coach of the Saints following the Super Bowl. Moore says his interviews with the Saints were great, but his focus is on beating the Chiefs.

Former Saints linebacker Zack Baun will return to the Dome this Sunday, this time wearing Midnight green. After spending four seasons as a reserve linebacker in New Orleans, Baun had a breakout season this year for the Eagles and he’s a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year….

Baun registered 151 tackles, five forced fumbles and one fumble recovery this year.

Girls flag football could soon be a sanctioned high school sport in Louisiana. Louisiana High School Coaches Association Director Eric Held says the LHSAA executive committee is expected to vote on sanctioning the sport at its April meeting…

Held says they heard from over 100 high schools who said they are interested in girls flag football.

In college basketball last night…Southern stayed undefeated in the SWAC with an overtime win over Jackson State. McNeese rebounded from a loss to Nicholls to beat UIW. The Colonels won their third in a row.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball is on the road this week for two games away from the TAC, starting Thursday at Liberty. Sean Newman and the Bulldogs are 5-and-4 in league play….

Eagles Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore flew out to New Orleans with the rest of the team over the weekend for Sunday’s Super Bowl. He might not need his return flight. That’s because the 36-year-old is widely considered to be the frontrunner to be the new head coach of the Saints. Moore says despite the Super Bowl being on the Saints’ home field this year, he’s not thinking about the Saints this week.

Moore says his meetings with the Saints an incredible experience with General Manager Mickey Loomis and the leadership group.

Multiple media outlets are reporting former Louisiana Tech quarterback and assistant coach Tim Rattay will join LSU’s staff as an offensive analyst. Rattay was the quarterback coach at Oklahoma State the last five seasons.

Last night was Super Bowl media day at the Caesars Superdome and it was a chance for the local media to talk with Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as he could be the next head coach of the Saints. Moore is considered the top candidate and the 36-year-old said becoming a head coach in the NFL would be the opportunity of a lifetime…

The LHSAA and the Saints are working towards sanctioning girls flag football as a high school sport. Louisiana High School Coaches Association Director Eric Held says the interest is there…

At least 80 schools needed to express interest per LHSAA bylaws in order for a formal vote to take place to finalize the approval of girls flag football as a sanctioned sport. Held says the association’s executive committee is expected to finalize approval at its April meeting.

In college basketball last night…McNeese rebounded from its first conference loss on Saturday by beating UIW 67 to 65. Nicholls stayed hot with a 75 to 67 win over Houston Christian. Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana both won. Southern improved to 9-and-0 in the SWAC with a 91 to 89 overtime win over Jackson State. Grambling lost to Alcorn State 60 to 53 to fall.
