Down 10 points in the 4th quarter the Saints scored 17 consecutive points and held on for a 24-23 win over the Baltimore Ravens. New Orleans did a lot of things well to get the win, 4-for-5 on fourth down, only gave up two sacks to the the NFL leader in sacks and Quarterback Drew Brees threw two touchdown passes against the league’s top ranked defense. In the end, a missed extra point by Justin Tucker was the difference. Coach Sean Payton is happy with the win…

The Saints next game is Sunday night in Minnesota. The Vikings beat the Jets 37-17 on Sunday.

And the Saints still lead the Panthers by one game for first place in the NFC South. Carolina rallied from a 17 point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Eagles 21-17. Tampa Bay also a winner yesterday, 26-23 in overtime over Cleveland.

The LSU Tigers will head into its annual grudge match with top ranked Alabama with a 7-1 record, but they’ll start the game without star linebacker Devin White, who has to sit for the first half after he was flagged for targeting late in the 4th quarter in the win over Mississippi State. After the game, Coach Ed Orgeron says the bye week comes at a good time…

LSU got trounced by Mississippi State 37-7 last year in Starkville. For tonight’s game, defensive end Breiden Fehoko is questionable with a an undisclosed injury and true freshman Chasen Hines will start at left guard.

In other action today….Louisiana Tech hosts winless UTEP at 2:30 PM. The Ragin Cajuns are at Appalachian State. ULM can get back to the .500 mark with a win over Texas State.

Grambling and Alcorn State renew their rivalary in Dallas in a rematch of last year’s SWAC Title game, which was one by Grambling 40-32.

The game of the day in the Southland is sixth ranked McNeese at Incarnate Word, who is 3-1 in league play.

The Pelicans broke a franchise record last night for most points in a game as New Orleans dribbled past Sacramento 149 to 129. Nikola Mirotic had a career-high 36 points and Anthony Davis poured in 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Pels, who improved to 2-0 on the season. New Orleans will be back at home on Tuesday as they host the Clippers.

LSU will wear special uniforms tomorrow night that will commemorate the “Silent Season” of 2018. The Tigers did not play football that year because of World War One. The jersey and pants will be white, the numbers are purple and no name on the back to honor the unknown members of the LSU community who died in World War One. Also, the helmets will change colors from purple to gold under the stadium lights.

The Saints will face one of their former playmakers when they visit Baltimore on Sunday. Former Black and Gold wide out Willie Snead is now catching passes for the Ravens and he’s having a good season, with a team-leading 30 catches in six games. In four years in the Big Easy, Snead grabbed 149 passes. Coach Sean Payton is not surprised to see Snead producing in Baltimore

Veteran Baltimore Quarterback Joe Flacco is also having a good season, averaging 298 passing yards a game.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron says starting guard Garrett Brumfield is getting better, but he’s not healthy enough to play Saturday against Mississippi State. Also, Orgeron says tight end Thaddeus Moss will likely not play this season, because of a lingering injury.

LSU Athletics Director Joe Alleva says they are ready to work with the NCAA after basketball coach Will Wade’s name was linked to possible offers of improper benefits involving a high school prospect in Florida. Wade’s name surfaced during a college basketball corruption trial in federal court in New York, where attorneys tried to present evidence of a phone call between Wade and one of the defendants in the case, Christian Dawkins. Wade appeared on the Paul Finebaum show and said he’s never done any business of any kind with Christian Dawkins.

The Pelicans started off a new season last night with an impressive 131 to 112 win over the Houston Rockets. Anthony Davis nearly had a triple double, 32 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists. Nikoa Mirotic drained six three-pointers and finished with 30 points. Elfrid Payton had a great debut with his new team, a triple-double, 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The other new Pelican, Julius Randle had 25 points and 8 rebounds. New Orleans home opener is tomorrow night against Sacramento.

LSU coach Will Wade says he’s never, ever conducted business with a defendant facing charges in a college basketball corruption trial. Two media outlets say defense attorneys tried to enter into evidence a taped conversation between Wade and would-be agent Christian Dawkins. In the FBI wire tap, Wade and Dawkins are talking about a 2019 recruit and the need for funding.

Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore was a full participant at practice yesterday, but remains concussion protocol. He suffered the concussion in the win over Washington. Ted Ginn Junior did not practice, because of a sore knee.

Coach Ed Orgeron says says tight end Thaddeus Moss is expected to miss the season with a lingering injury that has kept him off the field all season. Orgeron also says starting guard Garrett Brumfield is coming along, but not ready to play Saturday against Mississippi State.

After losing to UAB by three touchdowns, Louisiana Tech bounced back with a 31-3 over UTSA last Saturday. J’Mar Smith threw for 309 yards and completed passes to nine different receivers. Coach Skip Holtz on what they did differently…

The Saints are in Baltimore on Sunday to face the Ravens. Baltimore ranks number one in the NFL in total defense,. allowing 271 yards a game. They also lead the league in sacks as they have 26 of them. Linebacker Za’Darius Smith leads the way with 5.5 sacks.

The NBA season tips off tonight for the Pelicans in Houston as they will face the Rockets. Houston finished the regular season last year with the best record, winning 65 games. Coach Alvin Gentry likes the idea of beginning the season against the one of the NBA’s best teams…

Meanwhile, Will Wade’s name came up during testimony in a New York federal courtroom, where a college basketball corruption trial is taking place.

After advancing past the first round of the playoffs last season, the Pelicans begin the long journey tonight of trying to get back to the postseason and advance even further. New Orleans opens the new season against one of the favorites in the Western Conference, the Houston Rockets. The viral video of LSU defensive end Breiden Fehoko performing a haka dance with his dad and brother prior to the game against Georgia has created a big stir on social media. the video is worth seeing….

Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves has started a Go Fund Me account to raise money to pay the 100-thousand dollar fine LSU faces for storming the field following the upset win over Georgia. Over 10-thousand dollars have already been raised.

The Saints return to the field this weekend as they will visit the 4-and-2 Baltimore Ravens. New Orleans has not defeated the Ravens since Sean Payton and Drew Brees arrived in the Big Easy. Payton says Baltimore has been a well coached team under John Harbaugh…

An official injury report will come out tomorrow, but Payton sounds optimistic cornerback Marshon Lattimore will be okay after leaving the win over Washington with a concussion.

McNeese State is now ranked sixth in both the FCS STATS media and Coaches Poll. It’s their highest ranking since the end of the 2015 season. The 5-and-1 Cowboys are the lone undefeated team in Southland play at 4-0. McNeese is at Incarnate Word this Saturday.

After losing to Abilene Christian, the Colonels fell 11 spots in the coaches poll to 22. Nicholls is off this Saturday.

LSU is moving on from its big victory over Georgia and they are now getting ready to host 22nd ranked Mississippi State. The Bulldogs rushed for 285 yards in a 37-7 win over the Tigers last season and this year State is averaging 241 yards on the ground. Coach Ed Orgeron’s team slowed down Georgia’s run game, but Mississippi State has a different run attack

Oregeron says offensive guard Garrett Brumfield remains out with a knee injury, but wide receiver Dee Anderson and nose tackle Tyler Shelvin will be available for Saturday. Anderson missed the Georgia win and Shelvin has played in just one game this season.

UL-Lafayette’s Andre Nunez is the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week. The Senior threw for a career-high 315 yards and tied a school record with five touchdown passes in a blowout win over New Mexico State.

Southern University quarterback Ladarius Skelton is the SWAC offensive player of the week. Skelton accounted for 370 total yards and four touchdowns in the Jaguars 38-to-nothing win over Prairie View.

Grambling linebacker De’Arius Christmas is the SWAC Defensive Player of the week. Christmas had eight tackles, two sacks and an interception as the Tigers topped Texas Southern 34-21.

Saints Coach Sean Payton says cornerback Marshon Lattimore is doing well after suffering a concussion in last week’s win over Washington. Payton sounded optimistic he’ll be able to play this Sunday against Baltimore.

The Pelicans traded reserve center Alexis Ajinca to the Clipper for small forward Wesley Johnson. Ajinca barely played for New Orleans, while Johnson averaged five points and three rebounds a game last season against Los Angeles.
