Losing in the Super Regionals, keeps LSU from reaching the College World Series for a second straight season.

In other Super Regional action, Michigan took down the top overall seed UCLA as the Wolverines defeated the Bruins four to two to advance to the College World Series for the first time since 1984.

Texas Tech is also headed to the C-W-S for the fourth time in six years after rallying to beat Oklahoma State eight to six. Mississippi State is headed to Omaha for a second straight year as the Bulldogs defeated Stanford eight to one.

Today at noon, it’s Auburn versus North Carolina and then at 3:00 it will be Ole Miss versus Arkansas to decide the final two teams for Omaha.

LSU freshman Sha’Carri Richardson won the women’s 100 meters championship with an NCAA women’s record time of 10.78.

ESPN reports the Pelicans are hiring former UConn and WNBA star Swin Cash to a senior front office position. Cash will be the team’s vice president of basketball operations and team development. She will scout, help with player development and take on other roles with the organization.

The state legislature did not come through for Louisiana residents looking to play online fantasy sports contests for cash prizes. Despite approval in 47 parishes last November, lawmakers did not pass a tax structure for the activity to take place in Louisiana. Also, Louisiana will remain on the sidelines when it comes to legalized sports betting. Kenner Senator Danny Martiny’s measure to allow for a vote this fall to legalize sports betting at the state’s casinos got ambushed with unfriendly amendments when it went before House Appropriations. Martiny retaliated by not allowing a vote for the fantasy sports tax structure bill in the final minutes of the legislative session…

Sources say LSU wide receiver Jonathan Giles has put his name into the NCAA Transfer portal. Giles was expected to have a big season last year, but only caught 10 passes.

Former Saints running back Reggie Bush and the team’s all-time leading receiver Marques Colston will be inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in October. Colston was a dependable pass catcher for Drew Brees.

Bush’s best game in a Saints uniform may have been in the Divisional playoff victory over the Arizona Cardinals during the Super Bowl season. Two more LSU Tigers were drafted on the final day of the Major League Baseball draft. LSU’s all-time hits leader Antoine Duplantis went to the New York Mets in the 12th round. Earlier in the draft, the Mets also took Jake Mangum who is the all-time SEC hits leader. In the 32nd round, the Royals took catcher Saul Garza, who is expected to return to LSU next season.

ULM had three players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft, third baseman Chad Bell went in the 19th round to the Yankees, Seattle selected right fielder Trent Tingelstad in the 22nd round and left-handed pitcher Trey Jeans went in the 33rd round to the White Sox.

McNeese also had four players drafted in the final round. Shane Selman selected in the 21st round to the Oakland As, Carson Maxwell in the 25th round to Arizona, and the Chicago Cubs took pitchers Cayne Ueckert and Bryan King.

The NCAA is pushing the three-point line in men’s basketball back to the international distance, which is 22 feet, 1 3-quarters inches. The three point line has been 20 feet, nine inches since the 2008-09 season.

Former Governor Kathleen Blacnco will receive the Fleur de Lis award for her contributions to the Saints organization. Bush and Colston were drafted in 2006, months after Hurricane Katrina devasted the city and the two helped the franchise win their only Super Bowl in 2009.

Colston is the team’s all-time leader in catches, receiving yardage and total touchdowns.

Blanco led the effort to repair and improve the Superdome after it was damaged by Katrina, which allowed the Saints to return to the Dome in 2006 after playing home games in New York, Baton Rouge and San Antonio in 2005.

Dates and times are set for the Saints four preseason games. New Orleans will host Minnesota on August 9th at 7 PM, visit the Chargers on August 18th for a 3 PM kick-off. Take on the Jets in New York at 6:30 on August 24th and then host Miami in the preseason finale on August 29th at 7.

The Seminoles are much like the Tigers, they had high expectations prior to the season, but struggled during the year and they’ve gotten hot at the right time. Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins is also expected to miss the start of the season as he continues to recover from a torn Achilles. F-S-U’s ace is ten-game winner CJ Van Eyk. They also have a southpaw that starts. Drew Parrish is 8-and-5 with an ERA of 5.07. But he’s struck out 112 in 81.2 innings pitched. The voice of the Florida State baseball team Eric Luallen says the home run ball has been an issue for Parrish…

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees is missing Organized Training Activities this week, because he’s reportedly at a trial in San Diego. Last year, Brees filed a lawsuit against a California based jeweler they bought diamonds from. In a statement to TMZ last year, Brees says they paid nine million dollars more than what the diamonds are worth.

The Independence Bowl is reportedly losing its tie-in with the SEC. Starting in 2020 the annual football game in Shreveport will have teams from the ACC and PAC-12 play in the bowl game. In 2020, 2022 and 2024 the SEC will have teams play in the Las Vegas Bowl.

The Pelicans are reportedly listening to trade offers for disgruntled superstar Anthony Davis. Newly hired Pelicans executive David Griffin reportedly met with Davis and his agent, Rich Paul, last week to see if the six-time All-Star had a change of heart and wanted to stay in New Orleans. But Davis is still apparently seeking a trade, even though the Pels own the top overall pick in the draft.
