Football Scoop is reporting Youngstown State coach Bo Pelini is a candidate for the vacant defensive coordinator position at LSU. But FootballScoop says there are family considerations that may keep Pelini in Ohio. They note that his youngest daughter is a junior in high school and he’d prefer for her to finish high school, before moving on to another job.

Ragin Cajuns defensive coordinator Ron Roberts is on the move. The former head coach at Southeastern Louisiana will be the new defensive coordinator at Baylor. Roberts has helped the Cajuns win back-to-back Sun Belt Western Division titles. This past season, the Cajuns allowed just 20 points a game. The Daily Advertiser reports safeties coach Patrick Toney is expected to be promoted to defensive coordinator.

Zion Williamson is expected to make his NBA debut tomorrow night when New Orleans hosts the San Antonio Spurs. The Pelicans beat the Grizzlies 126 to 116 yesterday as Jrue Holiday had 36 points and hit a career-high seven 3s. New Orleans has won 11 of its last 16 since snapping a 13-game losing streak. Tip off tomorrow against the Spurs is at 8:30.

Jrue Holiday returned yesterday after missing the last seven games with a left tricep strain and hit a career-high seven 3s and scored 36 points in a 126 to 116 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. New Orleans hit a franchise-record 21 3s on the day. They are now 3.5 games back of Memphis for the final spot in the Western Conference playoffs and Zion Williamson is expected to return Wednesday when the Pels host San Antonio.

LSU cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract extension. The New Iberia native has been on LSU’s coaching staff since 2012 and reportedly turned down an offer to be an assistant at Texas A-and-M.

Former LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini’s name has surfaced as a possible replacement for Dave Aranda, who just took the head coaching job at Baylor. Pelini was LSU’s D-C for three seasons under former head coach Les Miles and helped the Tigers win a national title in 2007.

Backup LSU placekicker Connor Culp has entered the NCAA transfer portal. And former Houston quarterback D’Eriq King has announced he’s transferring to Miami. There was speculation King may want to play at LSU next season.

Back to college basketball,….Grambling fell to 3-and-3 in the SWAC after losing to Texas Southern 68-61. Southern improved to 3-and-3 in the league after a 74-70 win over Mississippi Valley State.

Despite a 5-0 record in SEC play, the Fighting Tigers are still not ranked in the A-P top 25. Coach Will Wade’s team can make another statement tomorrow night when they face the Florida Gators.

Louisiana Tech is 4-and-2 in Conference USA after losing to North Texas 51 to 50 at the Buzzer. Tech is at Middle Tennessee on Thursday. The Blue Raiders are winless in league play this year.

The Ragin Cajuns and Warhawks are both tied for last place in the Sun Belt. The two teams will face each other on Saturday.

Frank Wilson has been introduced as the new head football coach at McNeese. He was a recruiting coordinator under Les Miles at LSU and named as the nation’s top recruiter in 2011. Wilson left LSU to become the head coach at Texas-San Antonio, but he was fired after four seasons.

Two more LSU Tigers declared for the NFL draft today. Linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson and tight end Thaddeus Moss. That means nine LSU players are leaving early for the NFL draft. Meanwhile, Clemson running back and Jennings native Travis Etienne will return for his senior season.

The Pelicans are back at the Smoothie King Center on Saturday for a 2:30 tip-off versus the Los Angeles Clippers. New Orleans is coming off a big overtime win over Utah. The Pels have the fourth-best winning percentage in the NBA since December 23rd and Zion Williamson makes his season debut Wednesday.

LSU is at Ole Miss on Saturday night. Louisiana Tech hosts North Texas at 4 PM. Both teams are 4-and-1 in Conference USA play.

What a great win for the Pelicans last night as they ended the Utah Jazz’s 10-game winning streak with a 138 to 132 overtime victory at the Smoothie King Center. Brandon Ingram scored a career-high 49 points. It appeared Ingram won the game in regulation with a jump shot in the final second. But after a timeout, Utah inbounded the ball and a questionable call was called against the Pels. That allowed Rudy Gobert to tie the game as he split two free throws. After falling behind in O-T, the Pels took control in the extra period and won for the 10th time in there last 14 games. New Orleans hosts the Clippers tomorrow.

Louisiana Tech had an easy win over Rice 72-56 for the Bulldogs ninth consecutive home victory. ULM lost 64-63 to Texas State and Texas-Arlington beat the Ragin Cajuns 81-65.

LSU linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson has declared for the N-F-L draft. That’s now eight LSU underclassmen who made the decision to turn pro.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been added to the N-F-C Pro Bowl team. That’s now eleven members of the Black and Gold on the pro bowl squad.

Reports indicate four year LSU Defensive Coordinator Dave Aranda will take the head coaching job at Baylor. Aranda takes over for Matt Rhule, who moved onto the pros and poached former LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady this week.

The New Orleans Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for former LSU star and current Cleveland Browns wide receiver, Odell Beckham Junior, for allegedly slapping a police officer on the rear end. There’s a video of the slap which happened during the postgame celebration in LSU’s locker room. Beckham has also been in the news for his money handshakes with a few players after the game. NFL analyst Mike Detillier says O-B-J has been a huge supporter of the LSU football team, but the relationship might need a time out…

Beckham’s current team, the Cleveland Browns say their wide receiver is cooperating with the authorities about the incident with the officer and LSU says they are working with the NCAA about the money handshakes.

Pelicans fans will have to wait another week before they can see rookie Zion Williamson in a game. The franchise has targeted next Wednesday as the day Williamson will make his NBA debut. He has missed the whole season after undergoing knee surgery in October. Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin says Zion will not be on a minutes restriction when he returns, instead, his playing time will be determined by how he looks on the court…

Former LSU Associate Head Coach Frank Wilson is the new head coach football coach at McNeese.

Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin says the plan is for Zion Williamson to make his NBA debut January 22nd when the team hosts San Antonio. Williamson had surgery on October 21st on his right knee and did not participate in full-court, five-on-five practices until January 7th. Griffin says they’ve been encouraged by what they’ve seen at practice
