Runs were not a problem for Louisiana Tech yesterday as the Bulldogs blew out McNeese 14-4 in eight innings to complete the sweep of the Cowboys. Hunter Wells and Manny Garcia combined for nine hits, two home runs and seven RBIs.

Southern swept Grambling, ULM took two of three from Nicholls and the Ragin Cajuns took two of three from Houston Baptist.

The Saints have restructured the contracts of linebacker Demario Davis and Cam Jordan. The two moves reportedly saved the team more than 13-million dollars towards the salary cap. And the Black and Gold have signed running back Ty Montgomery to a one-year deal.

The LSU men’s basketball team will be the three-seed in this week’s SEC Tournament after dribbling past Missouri 86-80 on Saturday. Coach Will Wade says it was nice to win a close game and execute down the stretch…

The Husch Blackwell report also revealed that former LSU athletic director Joe Alleva attempted to fire then football coach Les Miles for inappropriate behavior with female student workers, including an accusation he kissed a female student twice. Kansas has put Miles on administrative leave to review the material in the report.

The eighth ranked LSU baseball team suffered its worst loss since 2007 in a 22-7 defeat to Oral Roberts yesterday. Jaden Hill allowed eight runs in the first inning. Louisiana Tech trounced McNeese 11-0 in the first game with fans at the new J-C Love Park.

The LSU men’s basketball team wraps up the regular season today with a game at Missouri. It could be the final regular season game for several Tigers, including junior guard Javonte (Juh-von-tey) Smart. Coach Will Wade says Smart is having his best year at LSU….

An official report has been released that details how LSU handled allegations of sexual and domestic assault.  The report gives 18 recommendations on improving LSU’s Title 9 practices and LSU interim president Thomas Galligan says the school plans to act on all recommendations and that includes beefing up the Title 9 Office.

Yesterday LSU released information about a 2013 investigation into former football coach Les Miles who was accused of kissing a female student twice, unwanted touching and suggesting they go to a hotel or condo together. Miles denies kissing the student, but the coach was ordered to stop texting and being alone with female student-workers.

The Saints have released fan favorite and punter Thomas Morstead after a 12-year run in the Black and Gold. Morstead leads the franchise in punts, punting yards and yards per punt. He does not intend to retire, but the former fifth-round pick says New Orleans will remain his home…

The Saints released 12-year veteran and punter Thomas Morstead today. Morstead was drafted in the fifth round in 2009 and he executed the surprise onside kick in the Black and Gold’s only Super Bowl victory. He’s been one of the NFL’s best punters over the last decade, but didn’t have a strong 2020 season. Sean Payton says it’s been an honor to coach Morstead.

The USA Today has learned former LSU football coach Les Miles was barred from having one-on-one meetings, texting or interactions with student employees after he allegedly took one of the female students to his condo alone and on one occassion allegedly kissed her. The USA today report is based on the results of an investigation conducted by the school in 2013 that have finally been released. In the report, Miles strongly denies kissing the girl and said he did nothing wrong and was simply mentoring young women at the school. The investigation said Miles’ actions were inappropriate and unacceptable.

The Pelicans will host the Miami Heat tonight after falling to the Chicago Bulls 128 to 124 last night. Zion Williamson scored 28 points, but he missed eight free throws. Tonight is the final game before the All-Star break. Williamson will head to Atlanta to compete in his first all-star game on Sunday.

The Nicholls men’s basketball team can clinch at least a share of the Southland Conference regular-season championship with a win over McNeese tonight at the Burton Coliseum. The Cowboys have won three of their last four and can clinch a spot in next week’s Southland tournament with a win tonight.

LSU baseball has moved the start for tomorrow’s game against Oral Roberts to 1 PM, because of the threat of rain in the Baton Rouge area on Friday night. The Tigers hit six home runs in a pair of victories yesterday, 16-1 over crosstown foe Southern and a five to four walk-win against Nicholls. The Bayou Bengals lead the nation in home runs as they’ve hit 21 of them in nine games.

LSU baseball won a pair of games yesterday over two different opponents. The Tigers defeated Nicholls five to four in the first contest and they clobbered Southern 16 to one in the second game. Dylan Crews hit home runs in both games and Will Hellmers threw five shutout innings against the Jaguars.

In other action, McNeese edged U-L Lafayette four to three to drop the Cajuns record to seven and three. Cowboys Coach Justin Hill missed the game after testing positive for COVID-19.

ULM clobbered Grambling nine to one. Trace Henry and Wiley Cleland each drove in three runs. Southeastern Louisiana freshman Will Kinzeler struck out a career-high 13 as the Lions defeated Tulane six to one.

College basketball…Louisiana Tech tuned up for the conference USA Tournament by beating Our Lady of the Lake 99-66. UNO knocked off Northwestern State 92-83 and Southeastern Louisiana had a disappointing loss to Central Arkansas 88-71.

The Pelicans followed up their best win of the season by losing to Chicago last night for a second time this season as the Bulls held off New Orleans 128 to 124. Zion Williamson had 28 points but he was eight of 16 from the free-throw line…

The Saints have terminated the contracts of veteran tight ends Jared Cook and Josh Hill. Cook was set to become a free agent, while Hill had one more year left on his deal. By releasing Hill, the Saints save three-million dollars against the cap. The team has also reportedly restructured the contract of defensive tackle David Onyemata that will reportedly save the team four million dollars against the 2021 salary cap.

Tonight at the Smoothie King Center, the Pelicans will host the Bulls. Nearly a month ago, Chicago beat New Orleans 129-116 and Bulls All Star Zach LaVine had 46 points. He’s been averaging nearly 29 points a game.

The Saints have reportedly restructured defensive tackle David Onyemata’s contract, which will create four-point-three million dollars in cap space. Onyemata signed a three-year, 26 million dollar deal prior to the 2020 season.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says the Saints have also discussed with teams the possibility of trading defensive tackle Malcolm Brown, who is entering the final year of three-year, 15-million dollar contract. Rapoport says the Saints would ave five million dollars against the cap if they either traded or released Brown.

With Louisiana moving into phase 3, sporting events can now increase fan capacity to 50 percent. LSU says they plan to do so, once the state fire marshal’s office approves their plans.

The LSU men’s basketball team easily defeated Vanderbilt last night 83-68 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Tigers improved to 10-6 in the SEC and they clinched a double-bye in the SEC Tournament. Louisiana Tech takes on Our Lady of the Lake tonight before next week’s Conference USA tournament. Our Lady of the Lake is an N-A-I-A school from San Antonio, Texas. Also, Northwestern State looks to sweep the season series over the Privateers as the two teams meet in New Orleans. Southeastern Louisiana also looks to complete a season series sweep of Central Arkansas when the two teams meet in Conway.

The LSU men’s basketball team cruised to a win over Vanderbilt in its home finale as the Tigers beat the Commodores 83-68 in a game that they led from start to finish.  Cam Thomas led all Tigers with 23 points and Darius Days had a bounce-back game with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  With the win, LSU will receive a double-bye in the SEC tournament.  Here’s coach Will Wade on how important this win was.

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team will wrap up the season tonight against Our Lady of the Lake.  If the Bulldogs can get a victory tonight, it would give them 20 wins for the year.

Tech currently has the best record in Conference USA with a 12-4 record in league play.

The New Orleans Pelicans will host the Chicago Bulls tonight at 7.  The Pels are coming off of a big win against the Utah Jazz 129-124.  New Orleans continues to be efficient on offense and guard JJ Redick says if they can improve on defense, they’ll be tough to beat.

The victory clinches a double-bye in the SEC Tournament for LSU, so they will play its first game in the tournament next week on Friday. The Tigers will finish the regular season on Saturday at Missouri. According to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, LSU would be a nine seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Louisiana Tech closes out its regular season tonight by hosting Our Lady of the Lake. The Bulldogs are looking for win number 20 on the season.

Also tonight, Northwestern State is at U-N-O, while Southeastern Louisiana visits Central Arkansas.

In college baseball last night, the Ragin Cajuns won their fourth straight as they defeated La Tech seven to two. C-J Willis tied a school record with three doubles. The Bulldogs fell to four and three on the season. Tonight the Cajuns are at McNeese. The Cowboys are coming off a four-game sweep over Prairie View.

Eighth-ranked LSU will play two games against two different teams. They’ll host Nicholls at 2 PM after their scheduled game last night was rained out. And then tonight the Tigers will take cross-town foe Southern at 6:30 PM.

Also tonight, ULM hosts Grambling and Tulane is at Southeastern Louisiana.

After beating the team with the best record in the NBA on Monday night when they defeated the Utah Jazz, the Pelicans host the Chicago Bulls tonight. The Bulls are 15-and-18 on the season.

Now that Louisiana is moving into Phase 3 of coronavirus restrictions, LSU plans on increasing its capacity at outdoor sporting events to 50-percent. Exact details will be announced once the Fire Marshal approves their plans.
