Future first-round pick and LSU All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Junior has a NIL deal with Louisiana-founded Waitr. Stingley will promote the popular food delivery app on his Instagram account. Southeastern Louisiana quarterback Cole Kelley has been named offensive player of the week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Kelley threw for 391 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 65 yards in a win over McNeese. Grambling’s Cameron Richardson is the defensive player of the week. Richardson returned a fumble for a touchdown and had an interception in the Tigers win over Alabama A-and-M.

In the latest high school football polls, Many has moved up to number one in Class Two-a. The Tigers have won four in a row, including a 44-31 victory over Red River last Friday. Lafayette Christian Academy has dropped down to number two in Class Two-A After losing to Catholic High.

The Bears remain the number one ranked team in Five-A, followed by Zachary, Brother Martin, Ponchatoula, and Alexandria Senior High. ASH is at West Monroe this Friday. The Rebels are no longer ranked in the top ten after losing to Neville last week.

The Pelicans lost their preseason opener last night as they fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves 117 to 114. Third-year guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker led the Pels with 22 points in 20 minutes. Rookie Trey Murphy had 21 points and was six of ten from three-point land. New Orleans will host Orlando in the Smoothie King Center tomorrow night.

The Tigers opponent this Saturday, 16th ranked Kentucky is only allowing 104 rushing yards a game, which ranks fourth in the SEC and 24th in the nation. But their starting nose tackle Marquan McCall will not play Saturday because of an injury. Kick-off on Saturday is at 6:30.

The Saints will take on the Washington Football team this Sunday. Both teams are two and two on the season. New Orleans has several players on injured reserve who are eligible to return like receiver Tre’Quan Smith, cornerback Ken Crawley and kicker Will Lutz. But there’s no word on when they’ll return.

Nicholls is also 2-and-2 and they are now ranked in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 after beating Houston Baptist 48-17 on Saturday. It was win number 40 for head coach Tim Rebowe, which is a new school record. The Colonels will host Southeastern Louisiana this Saturday. The Lions are ranked 14th in the FCS Coaches poll.

Stats Perform FCS has named Grambling as its national team of the week. The Tigers rallied from a 14-0 deficit to beat Alabama A-and-M 37-28. Freshman Noah Bodden threw three touchdown passes and the defense forced five turnovers.

Carolina suffered its first loss of the season a 36-28 defeat at Dallas and Tampa Bay is tied with the Panthers for first place in the NFC South. The Buccaneers defeated the Patriots 19-17 in Tom Brady’s return to New England. Brady surpassed former Saints quarterback Drew Brees as the NFL’s all-time passing leader with over 80-thousand yards.

LSU could only muster one touchdown in its loss to Auburn on Saturday. The Tigers rushed for just 33 yards and is now averaging 71 rushing yards a game, which ranks 128th out of 130 FBS teams. The New York Giants spoiled the Saints long-awaited return to a sold-out Superdome as the G-men defeated the Black and Gold 27-21 in overtime. New Orleans had an eleven-point lead with 12 minutes left but the Giants offense started ripping off big plays. New York Q-B Daniel Jones threw for 402 yards in the game, including a 54-yard TD pass to Saquon Barkley. Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins says they allowed too many chunk plays…

The 2-and-2 Saints are at Washington this Sunday. Washington outscored Atlanta 34-30 yesterday. Elsewhere in the NFC South, Dallas downed Carolina 36-28 and Tampa Bay beat the Patriots 19-17 as Tom Brady was victorious in his return to New England. Leonard Fournette had 91 yards rushing.

For the first time since 1999 LSU lost a home football game to Auburn. The Fighting Tigers let a 13-point lead slip away and lost to the War Eagles on Saturday night 24-19. A nonexistent running game is one reason why the Tigers failed to preserve the lead as Ed Orgeron’s team rushed for just 29 yards

The Ragin Cajuns moved to 2-and-0 in the Sun Belt with a 20-18 victory at South Alabama. 16th ranked Coastal Carolina crushed ULM 59-6 and Louisiana Tech came up short in their upset bid of 23rd ranked North Carolina State, losing to the Wolfpack 34-27.

It’s a big day of college football in the SEC. At 11 AM, second-ranked Georgia hosts eighth-ranked Arkansas and at 2:30 it’s top-ranked Alabama versus 12th ranked Ole Miss.

ULM and La Tech are on the road facing ranked teams. The Warhawks are at 16th ranked Coastal Carolina, while the Bulldogs visit 23rd ranked North Carolina State. The Ragin Cajuns are at 3-and-0 South Alabama.

The Saints return to the Superdome tomorrow for the first time since playing a preseason game a week before Hurricane Ida hit. Running back Alvin Kamara expects an electric atmosphere in their game against the New York Giants…

The Giants come into Sunday’s game winless at 0-3. New York will be without three starters, guard Ben Bredeson and wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton. Shepard is the team’s leading receiver. The Saints are down two starters, left tackle Terron Armstead and center Erik McCoy. McCoy will miss his third straight game because of a calf injury. Armstead injured his elbow in last Sunday’s win over the Patriots.

Also on Sunday, Carolina is at Dallas, Atlanta hosts the Washington Football Team and Tampa visits the Patriots in Tom Brady’s return to New England.

Nothing official from Auburn, but LSU Coach Ed Orgeron said this week that he expects the War Eagles will start T-J Finley at quarterback tomorrow night as the SEC West rivals meet at 8 PM. Finley replaced a struggling Bo Nix last week to help Auburn get past Georgia State.

Finley started five games at quarterback for LSU last season, but announced in May he was transferring after finding himself third on the depth chart. Orgeron has nothing but respect for TJ….

Saints linebacker Demario Davis was back at practice today after missing yesterday for the birth of his daughter. Left tackle Terron Armstead and Center Erik McCoy have been ruled out for Sunday’s game because of injuries.

ULM and Louisiana Tech are both on the road facing ranked teams tomorrow. The Bulldogs are at 23rd ranked North Carolina State, who is coming off a double-overtime win over Clemson. They held the Tigers to 214 total yards.

The Warhawks take a two game winning streak to 16th ranked Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers last loss in Sun Belt Play was to ULM in 2019.

The Ragin Cajuns are at undefeated South Alabama. The Jaguars have wins over Southern Miss, Bowling Green, and Alcorn State. South Al enters tomorrow’s game coming off a bye week. Coach Billy Napier says having an open week this early in the season can be good or bad…
