LSU’s top playmaker on offense is out for the rest of the year. Kayshon Boutte was carted off the field in the second half of Saturday’s loss to Kentucky with an ankle injury and Coach Ed Orgeron confirmed on Monday it’s a season-ending injury. There’s a big college football game tonight as the Ragin Cajuns host Appalachian State in a game that will be televised on ESPN Two at 6:30. This is the tenth meeting between the two schools and App State has won every game in the series, except for last December’s meeting in Boone, North Carolina that was won by the Cajuns 24-21. Coach Billy Napier says since his arrival, the games between these two schools have been close….

U-L Lafayette’s defense will be challenged by Appalachian State’s Chase Brice who is the Sun Belt’s top passer, averaging 272 yards per game.

Southeastern Louisiana quarterback Cole Kelley is the College Football Performance Awards FCS National Performer of the Week. The senior Q-B from Lafayette threw for 406 yards and five TDs in the Lions 58-48 win over Nicholls.

LSU football coach Ed Orgeron announced today that star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte is out for the season as a result of an ankle injury he suffered in the second half of Saturday’s loss to Kentucky. Boutte’s injury is a big blow as he leads the team with 38 catches for 509 yards and nine TDs.

After beating the Washington football team 33-22 yesterday , the Saints head into their bye week with a 3-and-2 record. Coach Sean Payton says they are heading in the right direction and the open week gives them a chance to recharge…

The Pelicans conclude their preseason schedule tonight when they visit Utah Jazz. The regular-season opener is a week from Wednesday at home against the 76ers.

The Saints bounced back from a tough home loss to the Giants by beating the Washington Football Team 33-22 yesterday. Quarterback Jameis Winston only completed 15 passes, but four of them went for touchdowns, including a 49-yard hail mary pass to Marquez Callaway to end the first half. Coach Sean Payton says the play was executed perfectly…

The Saints head into their bye week with a 3-2 record tied with Carolina for second place in the NFC South. New Orleans had a couple of big injuries on offense, Taysom Hill suffered a concussion when he took a hit to the head and receiver Deonte Harris left the game with a hamstring injury.

The LSU football team was outplayed badly in a 42-21 Saturday night loss to Kentucky and Coach Ed Orgeron’s days as head coach could be numbered. Orgeron admits it’s tough times, but still has confidence that he can turn things around…

In other action on Saturday, ULM scored the first touchdown but the Warhawks were pounded by Georgia State 55-21. Southeastern Louisiana quarterback Cole Kelley threw five touchdown passes as the Lions roared past Nicholls 58-48. Northwestern State won its first game, beating Houston Baptist 21-17. Grambling fell to Alcorn State 24-20. Texas Southern snapped an 18-game SWAC losing streak by beating Southern 35-31.

Jameis Winston threw four touchdown passes and the defense forced two turnovers as New Orleans defeated the Washington Football Team 33-22. Alvin Kamara also had a big day, 122 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.

Punter Blake Gillikin received the game ball as he averaged 54 yards a punt. The Saints suffered a couple of big injuries. Taysom Hill left with a concussion and Deonte Harris suffered a hamstring injury. New Orleans is off this Sunday.

The Black and Gold are now tied with the Panthers for second place in the NFC South with a 3-and-2 record. Carolina lost to the Eagles 23-18. Tampa Bay won again as they downed the Dolphins 45-17. The Bucs are 4-and-1.

The LSU Tigers were completely outmatched on Saturday night in Lexington Kentucky as the Wildcats scored the first three touchdowns of the game and went on to win 42-21. Coach Ed Orgeron’s defense gave up 330 yards rushing…

The Tigers are coming off a heart breaking loss to Auburn. LSU is 15-and-1 after a defeat with Orgeron as their head coach. Kick-off is at 6:30.

In other action on Saturday, ULM is at Georgia State. Even though the Panthers are 1-and-4, they are a 16-point favorite.

In the Southland, 25th ranked Nicholls hosts 14th ranked Southeastern Louisiana. It will be the 31st meeting between these two teams and each squad has won 15 games. Northwestern State seeks its first win as they visit Houston Baptist. Grambling is at Alcorn, while Southern visits winless Texas Southern.

The Saints are at the Washington Football Team on Sunday. In four games this season, Quarterback Jameis Winston has thrown for just 613 yards. There’s talk that Coach Sean Payton doesn’t trust Winston enough to let him throw more passes. Winston says it’s his job to fit in…

LSU heads to the Bluegrass State today where they’ll face 16th ranked Kentucky tomorrow night in Lexington at 6:30. The Tigers will not have three starters on the defensive side of the ball. Cornerback Derek Stingley Junior had foot surgery this week, safety Major Burns also has a foot injury and Coach Ed Orgeron said last night that defensive tackle Joseph Evans is also out for this game.

Last night, Tulane fell to 1-and-5 on the season as the Green Wave lost to Houston 40-22.

Tomorrow at noon, 14th ranked Southeastern Louisiana will visit 25th ranked Nicholls. A good matchup of quarterbacks, Cole Kelley for the Lions and Lindsey Scott for the Colonels. S-L-U Coach Frank Scelfo says they need to keep Scott in the pocket because he’s dangerous with his legs…

Westlake hosts a talented Lake Charles College Prep team and Carencro is at Teurlings Catholic. The Rebels are 5-0.

There’s a big college football game on the Bayou this Saturday as Nicholls faces Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions are led by the reigning Walter Payton Award winner, Cole Kelley. Will All-American cornerback Derek Stingley suit up again for the LSU Tigers? Stingley is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on his foot. Stingley says he plans to return this season. The Baton Rouge product could be a top five pick in next year’s NFL draft.

The LHSAA is moving next month’s state volleyball championships to the Cajundome in Lafayette, because of hurricane damage sustained to the Ponchatrain Center in Kenner.

After a tough start to the season with Hurricane Ida and playing some tough opponents, Nicholls has moved back into the Stats Perform FCS Top 25. LSU All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Junior had surgery on his foot and the timetable on when he’ll return to the field is not known. Stingley could be a top five pick in the NFL draft next spring. In a statement released through the school, Stingley says he still wants to finish out the season with his teammates and he’ll do everyting he can to get healthy so that he can play again this year.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron announced today that starting safety Major Burns will also not play this Saturday against 16th ranked Kentucky. Burns has a foot injury as well. The Tigers are a three-point underdog heading into Saturday’s game as the Wildcats are 5-0 while LSU is 3-and-2. Center Liam Shanahan says the Tigers are not lacking confidence…

History was made this afternoon in Marskville as the first legal sportsbook opened in Louisiana at Paragon Casino. Former Saints wide receiver Joe Horn placed the state’s first official sports bet at 3 PM. The state’s riverboat casinos, land-based casino in New Orleans, and racetracks are also expected to offer sports betting at their facilities in the coming weeks, but they are waiting on approval from the Gaming Control Board. Hurricane Ida has delayed the process.
