The Pelicans lost for the second straight night last night as Phoenix hit 17 three-pointers to beat the Pels 123 to 110. New Orleans has now dropped three straight overall as they failed to rally back after giving up 42 points in the first quarter.

For the first time since 1999, LSU football finishes the season with a losing record. An undermanned Fighting Tigers team lost to Kansas State 42-20 in the TaxAct Texas Bowl in Houston. LSU had only 38 scholarship players available for the game, and wide receiver Jontre Kirklin was the Tigers starting quarterback. Prior to Sunday’s win over the Panthers, there was no Who-Dat chant prior to the game. Saints Coach Sean Payton says it was not intentional and simply an oversight. Defensive end Cam Jordan says he’ll take the blame and promises they’ll do a pre-game who Who Dat chant at the team’s next home game, which will come next season.

Calvary Baptist Quarterback and Louisiana Tech signee Landry Lyddy is the Class One-A offensive player of the year after throwing 42-hundred yards and 53 touchdowns as a senior.

Legendary LSU basketball coach Dale Brown will be honored tonight when the court inside the PMAC is officially named after him. Brown took the Tigers to the Final Four twice during his coaching career at LSU which lasted from 1972 to 1994….

After winning their 13th straight game yesterday with a 75-66 win over Texas A-and-M, the Lady Tigers are up to number 13 in the A-P Poll. LSU will try to improve to 3-0 in the SEC when they host top-ranked South Carolina on Thursday.

Mike Denbrock is leaving Cincinnati as the Bearkats offensive coordinator to be the O-C in Baton Rouge. Denbrock has coached with Kelly at Notre Dame and Grand Valley State. Kelly says Denbrock is one of the best offensive minds in the game.

LSU football has named Mike Denbrock as the Tigers new offensive coordinator. Denbrock just helped Cincinnati go through the regular season undefeated and also coached with Brian Kelly at Notre Dame and Grand Valley State.

The Saints will not have their starting center for tomorrow’s game against Carolina. Erik McCoy has been placed on the COVID-19 restricted list, but receiver and return specialist Deonte Harris was removed from the list and is eligible to play after serving a three-game suspension.

On the injury front, receiver Tre’Quan Smith has been ruled out with a chest injury. Offensive tackle Terron Armstead practiced on a limited basis Friday and is questionable for Sunday. Mark Ingram, Ty Montgomery, Bradley Roby, Carl Granderson, and Lil’Jordan Humphrey are also listed as questionable.

LSU running back Tyrion Davis-Price has opted out of the Texas Bowl and he’s also not returning for his senior season as the Baton Rouge product is entering the NFL draft. On the coaching front, LSU has reportedly hired Jamar Cain to be the Tigers new defensive line coach and run game coordinator. Cain was actually at Oklahoma the last two seasons but followed Lincoln Riley to USC.

In Ruston today, college basketball fans can ring in the new year by watching Louisiana Tech take on Western Kentucky at 1 PM in a game that will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. The Bulldogs are 10-and-3 and coming off a 79-56 win over Marshall to tip-off Conference USA play. Western Kentucky is playing its first league game today and they are 8-and-5 overall and have victories over Ole Miss and Louisville.

The Ragin Cajuns are at Coastal Carolina. Both teams won their Sun Belt opener, while ULM is at Appalachian State. Both teams lost their conference opener.

The Pelicans begin 2022 by facing the defending NBA champs as New Orleans is in Milwaukee to take on the Bucks. Pels starting center Jonas Valanciuansas has entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols and will miss the next five days. But New Orleans top player off the bench, Nickeil Alexander-Walker has cleared health and safety protocols.

And tonight’s the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans as Baylor faces Ole Miss in the Superdome.

The state epidemiologist with the Louisiana Department of Health has recommended that extracurricular activities at schools should stop because of the latest surge of COVID cases fueled by the Omicron variant. But Louisiana High School Athletic Association executive director Eddie Bonine sent out a memo that says the LHSAA will not halt their winter sports seasons.

In college basketball, last night, Louisiana Tech and the Ragin Cajuns started conference play on the right foot. The Bulldogs beat Marshall 79-56 as the Thundering Herd shot just 29-percent from the field. Cobe Williams led the Bulldogs with 22 points.

U-L Lafayette defeated Appalachian State 71-55 as Jordan Brown had 16 points.

ULM allowed 12 three-pointers and got crushed by Coastal Carolina 94-64.

The 19th ranked LSU Lady Tigers won their 12th straight last night beating 13th ranked Georgia in Athens 68-62.

In college hoops Louisiana Tech extends its home win streak to eight following an easy 79-56 victory over Marshall Thursday night. The game was the Conference USA opener for both teams.

UL-Lafayette had an easy time over App State in their Sun Belt Conference opener, winning 71-55 on the road.

ULM was riding a 6-game win streak going into their game last night but ended up falling hard to Coastal Carolina 94-64.

The LSU women’s basketball team improves to 13-1 following its biggest win of the year. The Tigers prevailed over No. 13 Georgia on the road to claim the 68-62 victory.

New Orleans Saints legend Sam Mills has become a candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his final year of eligibility. The NFL and Pro Football Hall of Fame announced the former NFL players under consideration for Modern-Era player category honor on Thursday.
