LSU running back John Emery is looking at a two-game suspension to start the season. That’s according to a report by the Athletic. Emery was suspended for the entire 2021 campaign because of academic issues and this suspension is reportedly a carry-over from last season. Emery has been running with the second team in practice. Penn State transfer Noah Cain and sophomore Armoni Goodwin have been getting first-team reps. Coach Brian Kelly says the running backs room lacks a player like Leonard Fournette, but it’s still a solid group

The restaurant chain, Hooters, announces it has signed LSU offensive linemen to NIL deals. They will join other O-Line units from other schools to promote the Hooters brand through various marketing activities.

The Ragin Cajuns and Louisiana Tech have both made decisions on their starting quarterbacks. The Ragin Cajuns are reportedly going with Chandler Fields, who beat out Fresno State transfer Ben Wooldridge. Fields is from Metairie and the former Rummel standout has been at U-L since 2019.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports Louisiana Tech plans to start TCU transfer Matthew Downing at Q-B when the Bulldogs open the season at Missouri. Downing played for head coach Sonny Cumbie in 2020, when Cumbie was the offensive coordinator for the Horned Frogs.

The Saints have one more preseason game to go and it’s this Friday at home against the Chargers. Mostly back-ups played in last Friday’s 20-10 loss to Green Bay. Rookie left tackle Trevor Penning looked more comfortable against the Packers compared to how he played in the preseason opener…

Jones is reportedly appealing in an effort to play in the season opener against Florida State and the home opener against Southern. The Atheltic has also reported cornerback Raydarious Jones will be suspended the entire season because of academics.

The battle for staring quarterback during Ragin Cajuns camp is over, but the public has yet to be told who won the competition between Chandler Fields and Ben Wooldridge. Coach Michael Desormeaux says he wanted to inform the players themselves before he publicly announces a starter.

The Saints dropped to 0-2 in preseason action last night as the Black and Gold fell to the Green Bay Packers 20-10 in Lambeau Field. Most of the starters didn’t play, in fact back-up quarterback Andy Dalton didn’t see the field. That meant Ian Book went the whole way and he only threw for 113 yards and was the team’s leading rusher with seven carries for 49 yards. Book also turned it over twice and the Saints committed nine penalties. Coach Dennis Allen says he’s disappointed in the loss…

The big highlight from the game was Book’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave right before halftime. The final Saints preseason game is Friday at home against the Chargers.

At LSU camp there are some freshmen who are standing out, one of the players is Harold Perkins, the five-star linebacker out of Cypress Texas. Tigers defensive coordinator Matt House says Perkins speed and athleticism flash on the practice field…

The Ragin Cajuns hold their final scrimmage of preseason camp today and Coach Michael Desormeaux is expected to name a starting quarterback shortly after that scrimmage concludes. Chandler Fields and Ben Woolridge have been competing against each other.

And the game time is set for Louisiana Tech’s game at South Alabama on September 24th. It will kick off at 6 PM.

Houston visits the Rams. It’s a possibility former LSU star Derek Stingley Junior could get his first NFL action.
At LSU camp, Major Burns looks like he’ll be one of the starting safeties along with Jay Ward. Coach Brian Kelly says Burns is a high I-Q player…

One of the bigger position battles at LSU is for place kicker. LSU has been spoiled at this position with Cole Tracy and then All-American Cade York. Coach Brian Kelly says freshman Damian Ramos has been impressive, but there’s also sophomore Ezekeal Mata, Northwestern State grad transfer Trey Finison and freshman Nathan Dilbert….

Notre Dame transfer Jay Bramblett is expected to handle punting. He averaged 42 yards a punt in three seasons for the Fighting Irish.

The daughter of NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback Brett Favre has transferred LSU. Breleigh Favre is a beach volleyball player and competed for Southern Miss, where she won 36 matches, the fourth most in school history.

Quarterback Jameis Winston is not expected to play in tomorrow night’s game. He’s been recovering from a sprained foot sufffered during a practice on August eighth. Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas continues to look good in practices and he’s on track to play in the regular season opener. Thomas is trying to regain his All-Pro form after missing all of last season with an ankle injury.

There are reports the NFL and its players association have agreed to an eleven-game suspension for Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson will also be fined five million dollars. The Saints are set to play the Browns on Week 16 on Christmas eve. His first game back will be against his old team on Weeek 13.

But snapping the football was an issue as first-team center Garrett Dellinger continues to get used to a position he’s never played. Snaps from center Garrett Dellinger were an issue during the practice. Dellinger has never played center before, but Kelly says he’s not concerned and they’ll clean that area up. On the defensive side of the football, Kelly is impressed with McNeese transfer Colby Richardson who has a chance to start at cornerback.

Saints Coach Dennis Allen said today it’s unlikely quarterback Jameis Winston will play in Friday’s preseason game against the Packers. Winston is with the team in Wisconsin as they practice against Green Bay. He participated in warm-up drills, but that was about it. Winston remains day-to-day.

LSU football picked up another commitment last night as they received a verbal pledge from Khai Prean, who is a four-star athlete and is expected to play wide receiver and defensive back for St. James High School.

LSU basketball picked up its first commitment for the 2023 class as six-foot-eight forward Corey Chest says he plans on playing for the Tigers and Matt McMahon. Chest attended McMain High School in New Orleans last season and he’s ranked as the 15th best power forward in the 2023 class.

The Pelicans regular season schedule came out today as they will open the season on October 19th in Brooklyn and host the Jazz for days later for the home opener.
