Former LSU Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 481 yards and three touchdowns as the Bengals defeated the Falcons 35-17.

The Pelicans rallied back from a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter last night but lost to Utah 122 to 121 in O-T for New Orleans first loss of the season. The Pels did not have Brandon Ingram or Zion Williamson at the end of the game. Ingram left in the first half because of a possible concussion and Williamson injured his hip. The Pelicans are at Dallas tomorrow.

Louisiana Tech football suffered a hard-fought loss on homecoming to Rice on Saturday as the Owls defeated the Bulldogs 42-41 in overtime. Today the Fighting Tigers of LSU take on Ole Miss inside Death Valley for a 2:30pm kickoff. A win would mean the Purple and Gold take control of the SEC West. Wide Receiver Kayshon Boutte, a preseason All-American and projected first round pick in the NFL, got off to a slow start in Coach Brian Kelly’s new system. Ole Miss is the number 7 team in the country with a 7-0 record. LSU is a one-and-a-half-point favorite in the game.

The LSU Board of Supervisors approved a four-year contract extension for athletic director Scott Woodward that runs through 2029 and pays $1.85 million per year. He could also earn a $500,000 bonus if LSU wins a national championship in any sport.

UL-Lafayette will host Arkansas St this afternoon at 4. The Red Wolves sit two spots behind the Cajuns in the race for the Sun-Belt West.

Elsewhere around the state today, ULM is at Army, Southeastern is at Jacksonville St., Memphis is at Tulane, Northwestern State hosts SE Missouri, there’s a big in-state rival matchup at Nicholls as McNeese State comes to town, and it’s homecoming for Louisiana Tech as the Bulldogs host Rice.

Under the Friday Night Lights, Benton prevails over Haughton 78-71. Carencro beats Sam Houston 72-55. West Monroe dominated Ouachita 45-14. Evangel got past Minden 48-21. St. Thomas More picked up the win over Teurlings 35-30. And it was Lafayette Christian who won the game versus Westgate, 37-12.

The New Orleans Pelicans are now 2-0 following a 124-112 victory over the Hornets in the Spectrum Center last night. The Pels, who haven’t trailed once so far this season, come home Sunday to take on the Utah Jazz in the Smoothie King Center.

Saints quarterback Andy Dalton threw for 361 yards and four touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions as New Orleans lost at Arizona 42-34 last night. Dalton’s first interception was picked off in the end zone and then with less than two minutes to go in the first half, Dalton threw two INTs that were returned for touchdowns.

The Black and Gold trailed 28-14 at halftime and never recovered. The loss drops New Orleans record to 2-and-5 but Coach Dennis Allen is not giving up on the season….

Andy Dalton is expected to make his fourth straight start at quarterback as Jameis Winston is still not fully healthy from back and ankle injuries.

LSU Football Coach Brian Kelly says wide receiver Jack Bech is practicing this week after leaving the Florida game with a back injury. Running back Armoni Goodwin is also practicing and could play this Saturday against Ole Miss.

Zion Williamson’s return to the court was a big success last night in Brooklyn as New Orleans won their season opener, cutting down the Nets 130 to 108 at the Barclays Center. In his first game in more than 17 months, Williamson had 25 points….

LSU men’s basketball is picked to finish eighth in the SEC Men’s preseason poll which was released by the conference yesterday.

Former LSU star Aaron Nola gave up six runs in 4.2 innings and suffered the loss as the Padres erupted for five runs in the fifth inning to beat the Phillies eight to five. The win for San Diego evens the N-L-C-S at one game a piece. Austin Nola had an RBI single off his little brother in that five run fifth.

Saints head coach Dennis Allen said today they will make a game time decision on who will start at quarterback tomorrow night when the Black and Gold face the Arizona Cardinals. It appears Andy Dalton will make his fourth consecutive start as he was the one who spoke to the media before the team left New Orleans.

The Saints have ruled out the following players for tomorrow night, wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Michael Thomas, plus tight end Adam Trautman, offensive guard Andrus Peat and cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

LSU coach Brian Kelly says there’s a chance running back Armoni Goodwin will play Saturday after missing the last three weeks with a hamstring injury, while Jack Bech is back practicing after leaving the Florida game with a back injury.

Louisiana Tech head football coach Sonny Cumbie says star inside linebacker Tyler Grubbs will not play this Saturday and for the foreseeable future because of an injury. Grubbs leads the team in tackles and tackles for a loss. The Bulldogs will host Rice on Saturday for homecoming.

The Pelicans tip off a new season tonight with high hopes they can make a serious run in the Western Conference playoffs. New Orleans has a healthy Zion Williamson after missing all of last season with a foot injury.

Williamson averaged 26 points a game on 60 percent from the field and 7 rebounds over his 85-game career. Pelicans Coach Willie Green says his physical abilities are impressive, but his love for the game and basketball IQ are what truly make him special…

Fifth-year senior K-J Williams, who was the Ohio Valley Conference player of the Year last season for Murray State and now plays for the Tigers, was a second team all-conference selection.

Quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton were limited.

ULM steps out of Sun Belt play this Saturday to visit the Black Knights of Army. Army’s triple-option offense averages over 300 rushing yards a game. Warhawks Coach Terry Bowden says stopping the run game will be a key to victory ….
