The LHSAA has suspended Carroll High School Football Coach Brandon Landers and eight of his assistant coaches for the rest of the season after an altercation with law enforcement and fans during last Friday’s football game at Franklin Parish. Saints Head Coach Dennis Allen announced Andy Dalton will be the starting quarterback moving forward even with Jameis Winston a full participant in practice. When asked about what went into the decision, Coach Allen said it was performance-based. The offense under Dalton has been one of the top-ranked in both yards and points, and Allen said Dalton will keep the starting job if that trend continues. Dalton and the Saints will host the 2-4 Raiders at noon this Sunday.

LSU fans celebrated the Tigers’ 45-20 comeback win over undefeated Ole Miss by storming the field last Saturday. The Tigers took control of the SEC West, but the school received a $250,000 fine for the celebration. Head Coach Brian Kelly says he was surprised by the fan’s reaction.

LSU enjoys a week of this week before hosting 6th-ranked Alabama

The Pelicans’ hot start continued last night after a 113-111 win over the Mavericks. With starters Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, and Herb Jones out, the Pels showed off their depth in the short-handed win with 8 players reaching double-digit scoring. Forward Trey Murphy led the team with 22 points on a perfect night shooting. The Pels move to 3-1 on the season with a road trip beginning in Pheonix Friday night.

Southern University is set to get a lot of attention for their upcoming matchup against SWAC rival Jackson state as ESPN college Gameday visits Jackson, Mississippi for the game. With fanfare throughout the week and a spotlight on Southern players, coaches, and traditions, Head Coach Eric Dooley says its more important than ever for his team to keep their focus on the game…

Small forward Trey Murphy stepped up last night to help the Pelicans beat the Mavericks 113 to 111 at the Smoothie King Center. Murphy had 22 points on eight of eight shooting. New Orleans needed that kind of production, because they were without three starters, Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson and Herb Jones. The Pels are at Phoenix on Friday.

LSU football coach Brian Kelly says he was surprised to see the fans rush the field following Saturday’s 45-20 come-from-behind victory over Ole Miss. Kelly says State Troopers who provide security detail for the coach told him the student section was spilling onto the field…

LSU was fined 250-thousand dollars by the SEC because it was the third time in recent history fans came onto the field following an LSU win. The 2018 win over Georgia was the last time they did it.

Saints cornerback Bradley Roby has been placed on injured reserve. He suffered a lower leg injury in the first quarter in the loss to Arizona. He could return to the active roster as early as week 12.

LSU women’s basketball has received a commitment from five star recruit and six-foot-five forward Aalyah Rosario. She ranks as the seventh best player in the country and chose the Lady Tigers over South Carolina and Tennessee.

The Pelicans had a hard-fought win last night over Dallas as they defeated the Mavericks 113 to 111. The Southern University football program is set to get some big-time exposure this Saturday as ESPN’s College GameDay will be in Jackson, Mississippi for the Jaguars’ game against rival Jackson State. Head Coach Eric Dooley says it’s a big deal for the entire school

The Saints will get back to work tomorrow as they prepare for Sunday’s home game against the Raiders. New Orleans is 2-and-5 on the season and the defense has really struggled. The Saints have allowed 29 points a game, which is the second highest in the NFL and they’ve only forced six turnovers. There’s also the issue of missed tackles. U-L Lafayette’s other quarterback Chandler Fields is available for Thursday’s game at Southern Miss after missing the last two games due to injury, but Coach Michael Desormeaux says Wooldridge will start.

Louisiana Tech football coach Sonny Cumbie announced today that Quarterback Matt Downing will miss the rest of the season after taking a hit late in the overtime loss to Rice. Parker McNeil, who has started most of the games at Q-B is questionable for Friday night’s game against F-I-U. Also questionable for Friday are safeties BeeJay Williamson and Jaiden Cole. Tight end Griffin Hebert is closer to doubtful.

The Pelicans will be shorthanded tonight when they host the Dallas Marvericks. The team has announced that Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Herb Jones will not play. Williamson has a hip-and-back contusion from a hard fall in Sunday’s loss to Utah. Ingram is in concussion protocol and Jones has a hyperextended knee. Tip time in NOLA is at 6:30.

Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi has been picked to win the Southland Conference in Men’s basketball. Nicholls is picked to finish second, followed by UNO, Southeastern, McNeexse and Northwestern State.

Destrehan is ranked number one still in the Class 5A Louisiana Sports Writers Association high school football poll. Parkway and Southside have entered the Top 10. The tenth ranked Sharks are 7-and-1 after beating Acadiana 22-7 last Friday. Parkway is also 7-and-1 and they are ranked ninth and will visit Airline on Thursday. Several games are getting moved to Thursday because of the possiblty of bad weather on Friday.
