To make matters worse, Saints wide receivers Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry and Tre’Quan Smith all left yesterday’s game with injuries. The NFL Network Ian Rapoport’s reports Thomas and Landry’s injuries do not appear to be serious.

The Pelicans begin training camp today and C-J McCollum has reportedly signed a two-year, 64-milliion dollar contract extension, which takes him through the 2025-26 season. McCollum averaged 24 points a game after joining the team last season following a trade with Portland.

Louisiana Tech heads into the bye week knowing they have to get better play from the quarterback position. The Bulldogs lost 38-14 on Saturday to South Alabama. Tech quarterback Parker McNeil threw four interceptions.

Former Lafayette Christian Academy star Zachary Clement made his first start of the season on Saturday and helped Northwestern State gets its first win. Clement threw for a career-high 366 yards and three touchdowns in the Demons 35-27 win over Lamar.

ULM is off to a 1-0 start in Sun Belt play and that one victory is a big one as the Warhawks rallied from a 17-7 deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Ragin Cajuns 21-17. Quarterback Chandler Rogers had a touchdown run to spark the rally….

Southeastern Louisiana took down fourth ranked U-I-W 41-35 in the Southland Conference opener for both teams on Saturday night at Strawberry Stadium. It’s the highest ranked opponent S-L-U has defeated since beating fourth ranked Sam Houston in 2013.

Northwestern State and McNeese won their first games of the season on Saturday, while Nicholls remains winless as they were blown out by Jacksonville State 52-21.

Louisiana Tech is at South Alabama. 3-and-0 Tulane hosts Southern Miss. In the Southland, Southeastern Louisiana hosts fourth ranked UIW. Northwestern State hopes a change at quarterback, Zachary Clement is expected to start, will get the Demons their first win when they host Lamar.

Union Parish running back and LSU commit Trey Holly is the all-time leading rusher in Louisiana High School football history after rushing for 250 yards and four touchdowns in a 62-12 victory over Bastrop. Holly broke former University High star Nick Brossette’s record. Holly has 8,708 career yards and now has his eyes set on reaching 10-thousand before he’s done.

In other high school action last night, Many defeated Newman 25-17 as Arch Manning threw two touchdown passes in the loss. Airline defeated Benton by a basketball score as the Vikings were victorious 75-59. Mangham’s Jalen Williams had 656 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns in a 60-26 win over General Trass. Ruston beat Lafayette Christian 35-20 and Westgate won their 12th straight, beating St. Martinville 55-20.

The Saints say cornerback Alontae Taylor will not play tomorrow against Carolina because of a knee injury. Alvin Kamara and Paulson Adebo are listed as questionable. Kick-off is at noon.

Saints Quarterback Jameis Winston, tight end Taysom Hill, tackle Ryan Ramczyk, running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Paulson Adebo are all listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at Carolina. Back-up cornerback Alontae Taylor has been ruled out after hurting his knee in practice on Thursday.

ULM and U-L Lafayette open Sun Belt play by playing each other on Saturday at 7 PM in Malone Stadium. The Cajuns are two and one and coming off a loss to Rice, while the Warhawks are 1-and-2 , with losses to Texas an Alabama on their resume. The Crimson Tide trounced the Warhawks 63-7. LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte will not play in tomorrow night’s game against New Mexico as his girlfriend gave birth to their first child last night. Kelly says expect to see Jack Bech and Malik Nabers as the slot receivers, Kyren Lacy playing boundary receiver and Chris Hilton as the X receiver and Brian Thomas rotating in.

It is expected true freshmen Will Campbell and Emery Jones will start again at the two offensive tackle spots on Saturday. Center Charles Turner says both of them played really well last week as starters…

The NCAA has placed LSU’s football program on one year of probation and former LSU offensive line coach James Cregg was given a three year show cause for improper recruiting violations. That means it will be hard for him to find a job over the next three years in college football. The NCAA has determined Cregg gave a recruit team gear during a COVID-19 dead period for visiting recruits. LSU will pay a self-imposed five-thousand dollar fine and the number of official recruiting visits will be limited to 55.

Saints quarterback Jamies Winston is still struggling with ongoing back injuries that may continue to hinder him throughout the rest of the season. Winston suffered four fractures in his back in week one against the Falcons but he isn’t focusing on the pain.

Rookie wide receiver Chris Olave had five receptions for 80 yards in the loss but was targeted thirteen times including multiple deep shots of which only one connected. Winston praised the rookie’s route-running ability and maturity and says he needs to be more accurate on those throws down the field.

LSU and New Mexico will meet for the first time on the football field this Saturday, and getting sophomore wideout Jack Bech is a goal for the Tigers. The Lafayette native only has two catches in three games, after leading the team in receptions with 43 catches for 489 yards and three touchdowns last season.
