The top ranked LSU Baseball team will begin play today in the Round Rock Classic at 2pm as the Tigers face Kansas State. LSU is 4-0 and Paul Skenes will be on the hill for the Bayou Bengals after striking out 12 in his Tiger debut on Friday. The Wildcats are 4-1 and are expected to finish towards the bottom of the Big 12 Standings.

The LSU women’s basketball team gets win number 26 on the year, as the Tigers cruise to a 82-63 win over Vanderbilt in Nashville last night. Angel Reese had her 26th double-double and her 10th first half double-double of the season. The Tigers will now finish the regular season at home against Mississippi State at 5pm on Sunday.

The Pelicans fell to the Raptors last night in their first game after the All Star Break, 115-110. Brandon Ingram had 36 points in the losing effort. New Orleans will visit the Knicks on Saturday.

College hoops last night, Louisiana Tech falls to Western Kentucky 76-66.

In the Southland, UNO prevailed over Nicholls State in in-state rival action, 88-82. Southeastern beat Lamar 83-60. The Lions are 3rd in the conference. McNeese fell to Houston Baptist, 85-80. And Northwestern State got another win this time beating Incarnate Word 71-66. The Demons are 1st in the Southland with a record of 20-9.

The Ragin Cajuns Baseball team shut out BYU yesterday by a score of 11-0. UL-Lafayette is now 2-0 in the three game series which concludes today.

In other college baseball action around the state today, ULM hosts SUI Edwardsville. Southeastern hosts Samford. UL-Lafayette hosts BYU. Tulane hosts St. John’s. Nicholls State is at Louisiana Tech. McNeese State is at UT Arlington.

Adam Miller also had a big game as he scored 18 points and went nine of ten from the free throw line. The Tigers are now 2-and-13 in the SEC.

The Ragin Cajuns still have a chance to claim a share of a Sun Belt Conference title as they defeated Arkansas State 85-74 last night. The Cajuns are in third place, one game back of Marshall and Southern Miss with one more regular season game left.

And ULM’s season continues to nose dive as the Warhawks lost their sixth straight last night, losing to Troy in overtime 82-78.

The Pelicans return from the All-Star break tonight to face the Toronto Raptors. Rookie Dyson Daniels is listed as probable after missing 11 games prior to the break with an ankle injury. New Orleans is 30-and-29 and in seventh place in the West. Toronto is 28-and-31 overall.

Fifth ranked Lady Tigers are on the road as they take on Vanderbilt tonight. The Commodores are 3-and-11 in the SEC, but two of those victories have come in the last couple of weeks.

Louisiana Tech men’s hoops visits Western Kentucky. Both teams are 6-and-10 in Conference USA Play.

In the Southland…Nicholls is at UNO, Southeastern Louisiana visits Lamar, McNeese travels to Houston Christian and Northwestern State is U-I-W.

Ragin Cajuns baseball continues its series with BYU at Tigue Moore Field after beating the Cougars four to three yesterday. Caleb Stelly had an RBI single in the eighth inning to cap off a three-run rally.

The Tigers got a big game from K-J Williams who had 35 points. It’s the first win for the Bayou Bengals in 56 days.

In the Sun Belt, the Ragin Cajuns defeated Arkansas State 85-74 last night as Jordan Brown had a double-double 24 points and 12 rebounds and Greg Williams Junior added 18 points. U-L Lafayette is in third place in the Sun Belt.

ULM had a nine point lead at halftime, but lost in overtime to Troy 82-78. The Warhawks have lost six in a row.

The Ragin Cajuns scored rallied to beat BYU in their home opener last night. Freshman Caleb Stelly had a two-out, RBI single to cap a three-run eight inning. Blake Marshall struck out a career-high five in relief to get the win.

Mississippi State crushed ULM 14-3. South Alabama edged Nicholls five to four.

The fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team is in Nashville tonight to face Vanderbilt. After giving up 79 points in Sunday’s win at Florida and 88 points in a recent loss to South Carolina, Coach Kim Mulkey is looking for better field goal percentage defense…

Charges have been dropped against LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers who was arrested in New Orleans this week for a misdemeanor count of illegal carrying of a weapon on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Prosecutors decided to drop charges on the condition that Nabers does not get the gun back.

The LSU men’s basketball team will try to end a 14-game losing streak tonight when they host Vanderbilt. A 15th straight loss would tie a school record set in 2017. Vanderbilt comes into tonight’s game with a five-game winning streak, the second longest in the SEC. Tip off is at 6 PM.

In college baseball tonight….the Ragin Cajuns open their home schedule as they host BYU. U-L Lafayette took two of three from Rice last weekend, while the Cougars split a four game series with Louisiana Tech. Nicholls is at South Alabama, while ULM travels to Mississippi State.

The top ranked LSU baseball fell behind four to nothing to Southern yesterday, but Tre Morgan and the Tigers roared back for a 18-4 win over the Jaguars. Morgan hit for the cycle and he did it in order, capping it off with a three run home run in the sixth….

In other action, ninth ranked Arkansas outscored Grambling nine to seven. Southeastern Louisiana clobbered Jackson State 19 to 0 as the Lions are 5-0. Northwestern State edged LSU-A five to four and Sam Houston slammed McNeese 18-6.

LSU’s leading receiver last season Malik Nabers is facing a weapons’ charge after he was booked into the Orleans Parish Jail on a charge of illegal carrying of a weapon. Nabers was released Tuesday morning and not required to post bond. He caught 72 passes for 1,017 yards and three touchdowns last season.

LSU Special Teams Coordinator Brian Polian is reportedly transitioning to an off-the field role. Polian a longtime assistant for head coach Brian Kelly will move into a GM style role according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The Tigers struggled on special teams last season and Kelly is looking for a new coach.

Could we see new rules for college football designed to reduce the number of plays, which will lead to shorter games? Sports Illustrated Ross Dellenger reports college football executives are looking at several proposals including no longer stopping the clock after a first down and an incomplete pass.

LSU’s leading receiver last season Malik Nabers has been arrested on gun charges. Records show he was booked into the Orleans Parish Jail early this morning on a charge of illegal carrying of a weapon. The LSU athletics department tells WAFB-TV they are aware of the arrest and working to gather more information. Last season, Nabers caught 72 passes for 1,017 yards and three touchdowns.

LSU Football Coach Brian Kelly is reportedly making a change with his special teams coordinator. Multiple reports say Brian Polian will transition to an off-field role. LSU special teams units were frustrating to watch in 2022 as they had trouble staying away from penalties, different guys mishandled punts and two blocked kicks cost LSU the season opener against Florida State.

Ross Dellenger at Sports Illustrated is reporting college football executives are looking at making changes in an effort to reduce plays in games for safety and game length reasons. Dellenger reports one proposal that seems to have wide support is keeping the clock running after a first down.

After visiting the Jets over the weekend, free agent quarterback Derek Carr is still not in a rush to sign with a team. It’s been reported Carr had a good visit with the Jets, but his brother, David Carr, told the NFL Network that Derek is expected to take more visits and that this is a long process. The Saints met with Carr before the Raiders released the four-time Pro Bowler.

Tough loss for Nicholls basketball last night as the Colonels fell to Texas A-and-M Commerce 72-71 on their home floor. The Lions scored the winning bucket with five seconds left as Nicholls lost for just the second time at home this season. They are nine and six in Southland play and tied with Southeastern for third place.

Tomorrow night, LSU men’s basketball will try to end a game 14-game losing streak as the Tigers host Vanderbilt. The Commodores are on a roll as they’ve won five in a row. Tip off is at 6 PM.

LSU’s Angel Reese has been named SEC Player of the Week for a sixth consecutive time which is a new record for the league. Reese is averaging 24 points and 16 rebounds a game. The Lady Tigers are at Vandy on Thursday.

Southeastern Louisiana completed a four-game sweep of Lafayette by beating the Lions 11 to four yesterday. The Ragin Cajuns missed out on sweeping Rice as the Owls salvaged a game in the series with a 12 to eight win. ULM took two of three from Bradley. The Warhawks won eight to four yesterday as Chipper Menard from Houma threw six strong innings.

For the first time in SEC play, the fifth-ranked LSU Lady Tigers scored 90 points in a game as they defeated Florida on the road 90-79 yesterday. Coach Kim Mulkey is pleased with the win in front of 35 hundred fans…
