Big upset in college baseball as the Nicholls Colonels defeated top ranked LSU six to five last night. Shortstop Parker Coddou finished off the game with a fantastic double play as he caught a pop up in shallow centerfield and then ran to second base to record the second out as LSU pinch runner Jack Merrifield was already at third base, thinking the ball would fall in for a hit. It was the first win for Nicholls against a number one ranked team since 2009. Coach Mike Silva….

The Demons are in Lafayette tonight to face the Ragin Cajuns. U-L Lafayette snapped a three-game losing streak last night when they defeated Southern ten to five. Conor Higgs had a two-run triple to fuel a seven run third inning.

Louisiana Tech is looking to snap a three-game losing streak tonight when they visit Southern Miss. Bulldogs Coach Lane Burroughs says getting a win tonight would be great, but making sure they are among the eight teams that make the Conference USA Tournament is more important…

The Bulldogs are 9-and-9 in Conference USA action and in fifth place. There are ten teams in CUSA and eight make the postseason tournament.

Grambling improved to 14-and-4 in the SWAC with a 16-seven win over Alcorn State last night. The Tigers have won three in a row and they lead the SWAC West. Grambling hosts Prairie View this weekend.

Big news for the McNeese Men’s’ basketball team as the Cowboys leading scorer and rebounder Christian Shumate is exiting the transfer portal and will play for McNeese next season.

Nicholls took down top ranked LSU six to five in a wild baseball game last night in Baton Rouge. The Colonels trailed four to three heading into the eighth inning, but tied it in the eighth and scored two runs in the ninth and held on for the one run win. Xane Washington drove in two runs and Nico Saltaformaggio pitched three scoreless innings for the win. Bryce Collins gave up two runs in the ninth and suffered the loss.

The Ragin Cajuns snapped a three-game losing streak with a ten to five win over Southern. Carson Roccaforte had three hits and drove in two runs. U-L Lafayette hosts Northwestern State tonight.

ULM lost its third straight falling to Stephen F Austin 14 to 8. Southern Miss outscored Tulane 11 to ten, UNO edged South Alabama six to five and Grambling pummeled Alcorn State 16 to 7 to stay in first place in the SWAC West. Jose Vargas drove in three runs for the Tigers.

After getting swept by a red-hot Dallas Baptist team, Louisiana Tech baseball returns to action tonight as they face Southern Miss in Hattiesburg. The Bulldogs are 20-21 overall, nine and nine in Conference USA action. Tech Coach Lane Burroughs is hoping for a strong finish and a deep run in the league tournament…

Burroughs also says star outfielder Cole McConnell will not play this season. He was suspended indefinitely prior to the season after driving in a school record 76 runs last season.

LSU freshman pitcher Chase Shores will miss the rest of the season, because he tore a ligament in his throwing elbow. Shores reportedly underwent surgery last week and the Texas native will likely miss next season too.

LSU pitcher Chase Shores will not pitch the rest of the season as he underwent reconstructive elbow surgery last week. Shores pitched in seven games this season and had a 1.96 ERA.

Louisiana Tech Coach Lane Burroughs says star outfielder Cole McConnell will not play this season. He was suspended indefinitely prior to the season after driving in a school record 76 runs last season.

The battle for place kicker at LSU will continue in August. Damian Ramos was 10 for 14 on field goals last season. Sophomore Nathan Dibert competed with Ramos last fall and this spring and Coach Brian Kelly says the competition continues…

In college basketball news…former LSU guard Cam Hayes is transferring to East Carolina. Louisiana Tech announces six-foot-eleven Daniel Batcho is transferring to Ruston. He spent the last two seasons at Texas Tech and averaged eight points and six rebounds a game last season. McNeese is getting a transfer from TCU, Shahada (sha-ha-day) Wells. He averaged six points a game last season.

Little-used third-string catcher Hayden Travinski was the hero in LSU’s come-from-behind win over Ole Miss on Sunday. Travinski hit a three-run homer in the ninth to stun the Ole Miss fans and give the Tigers a seven to six win. Coach Jay Johnson says Travinksi has been the ultimate team player, even though he’s seen limited action…

It’s a question mark on whether LSU running back John Emery will play this season as he needs to handle his academics first. Josh Williams and Armoni Goodwin did not participate in spring practice, because of injuries. So the only experienced back in the spring was Noah Cain, who rushed for 409 yards and ten touchdowns last season. Coach Brian Kelly says don’t sleep on Cain…

The Southeastern Conference is considering severe penalties to stop the storming of the field by fans after big victories. According to Sports Illustrated the league is looking at taking away future home games or possibly forcing forfeitures. LSU was fined 250-thousand dollars twice in 2022 as fans rushed the field after wins over Ole Miss and Alabama.

LSU remains ranked number one in the baseball polls after sweeping Ole Miss over the weekend. The Tigers won in dramatic fashion yesterday as Hayden Travinski hit a three-run homer to give LSU a seven to six victory over the Rebs. Third baseman Tommy White left the game with soreness and is considered day-to-day.

Both quarterbacks threw a pair of touchdowns in Saturday’s Spring game on the LSU campus. Jayden Daniels was 10-of-11 for 168 yards and Garrett Nussmeier was 5-of-8 for 139 yards. Coach Brian Kelly says he was pleased with his Q-Bs…

La Tech went 3-and-9 last season.

Since January of 2022, 12 cases of Chronic Wasting Disease have been detected in Louisiana, all from Tensas Parish. State Wildlife Veterinarian Jim LaCour says they implemented a control plan that included feeding and baiting bans to prevent the spread of the disease, free testing for hunters, and banning the export of deer central nervous tissue from the area.

The plan was implemented in Tensas and portions of Franklin and Madison Parishes. They’ll continue testing when bow season starts in October.

The top ranked LSU baseball team pulled off an impressive come from behind win yesterday to complete a three-game sweep of Ole Miss. Down six to four, with two outs, third-string catcher Hayden Travinski drilled a three-run homer down the left field line that resulted in a seven to six win for the Tigers. LSU third baseman Tommy White left the game with an injury. We are expecting an update today from Coach Jay Johnson.

Back to college Baseball, 18th ranked Dallas Baptist swept Louisiana Tech, the Ragin Cajuns were swept at James Madison, ULM dropped two of three to Arkansas State. Nicholls is in first place in the Southland Conference after sweeping Houston Christian. The Colonels are at LSU tomorrow night. Grambling won its series at Southern. The Tigers are 13-and-4 in the SWAC and in first place in the West.

Davis Riley and Nick Hardy won the Zurich Classic at the TPC Louisiana. It’s the time the duo has won on the PGA Tour.

LSU quarterbacks Jaiden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier each threw two touchdown passes in Saturday’s spring game, but the defense also made some big plays too. Coach Brian Kelly says linebackers Harold Perkins and Omar Speights were outstanding and the coach also believes Texas transfer and defensive end Ovie Oghoufu’s two sacks show he’s a really good addition…

Eleven Louisiana deer tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease during the 2022-23 hunting season, which brings the total to 12. All of the CWD cases have been in Tensas Parish. LDWF State Wildlife Veterinarian Dr. Jim LaCour says they have a control plan.

Hunters are strongly encouraged to get all deer harvested in the Tensas Parish area to get the carcass tested for CWD.

What a victory for the top ranked LSU baseball team yesterday in Oxford, down two runs with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, pinch hitter Hayden Travinski drilled a one-two pitch for a three-run homer down the left field line to give the Tigers a seven to six victory over Ole Miss. The win completed a sweep over the Rebels and LSU is now in first place in the SEC west with a 12-and-5 record.

LSU third baseman Tommy White came into last night’s game against Ole Miss as the SEC RBI leader and Tommy Tanks added to his total as he knocked in four runs with one swing of the bat as the Bayou Bengals beat the Rebels seven to three. White hit a grand slam in the fifth inning , his third of the year….

The Cajuns lost a back and forth affair to James Madison ten to eight, ULM scored three runs in the ninth to beat Arkansas State eight to six. Dallas Baptist downed Louisiana Tech nine to one. UIW beat Northwestern State 11-5 in 10 innings and Nicholls and McNeese were big winners.

Louisiana Tech is at 18th ranked Dallas Baptist. The Bulldogs have won four in a row, while the Patriots have won eleven straight and they are 18-and-2 at home.

The Cajuns face James Madison for the first time on the baseball diamond.

Nicholls has a new men’s basketball coach as former player and staff member Tevon Saddler is coming back to Thibodaux after spending last year as the director of player personnel at Maryland. The 28-year-old was an All Southland performer for the Colonels in 2017-18.
