LSU women’s basketball is heading to its sixth final four and its first since 2008 as the Lady Tigers defeated Miami 54-42 in Greenville, South Carolina last night. It’s the fifth time Coach Kim Mulkey has made it to the Final Four during her 23-year career as a head coach…:

LSU will play the winner of tonight’s game between Virginia Tech and Ohio State in the national semi-finals on Friday night in Dallas.

The top-ranked LSU Baseball team used a six-run 4th inning to break a 4-4 tie and propel the Tigers to a 14-5 victory over No. 3 Arkansas in the series finale and second game of a Saturday doubleheader at Alex Box Stadium. In the first game of the day LSU beat the Razorbacks 12-2.

Louisiana Tech dropped the finale of a three game Conference USA series at Western Kentucky 5-2. The Bulldogs swept Saturday’s doubleheader, 5-3 and 3-2.

UL-Lafayette swept the doubleheader Saturday over South Alabama 22-5 and 10-6.

McNeese fell 8-5 Sunday to drop the Southland Conference Series versus Nicholls. Southeastern fell to Texas A&M Corpus Christi 3-1.

LSU needs to find a new defensive line coach as Jamar Cain has left the program to join Sean Payton in Denver as a pass rush specialist for the Broncos. Fourth-year junior Jacobian Guillory says it was tough news to take, but he still thinks LSU’s d-line will be elite, especially when injured players return for preseason camp…:

Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers are headed to the Elite Eight after topping Utah in the Sweet Sixteen Friday 66-63. It’s the first time the Purple and Gold have made it this far since 2008. It was a close game right up to the end and Mulkey says Utah played a heck of a game…:

LaDazhia Williams scored a season-high 24 points to lead the Tigers and Angel Reese, who fouled out late, scored 17 and grabbed 12 rebounds. And another big topic of the matchup was Mulkey’s pink feather trimmed blazer. She says being flashy is what we do in the Bayou State…:

LSU will now face Miami with a trip to the Final Four on the line at 6pm on Sunday.

The LSU Baseball Team fell in Game 1 of the Series against Arkansas 9-3 in 10 innings inside Alex Box Stadium. LSU right-hander Paul Skenes had another impressive outing on the mound, tossing his sixth straight double-digit strikeout game. The two teams will play a doubleheader today at 1pm and 6:30pm.

Elsewhere around the state in baseball, UL-Lafayette fell to South Alabama 12-11 in a back and forth matchup Friday in the opening game of a Sun Belt Conference Series. The Ragin Cajuns will also play a doubleheader today in Mobile beginning at 1pm.

The weather also postponed Louisiana Tech’s matchup with Western Kentucky in Bowling Green and the Bulldogs will play 2 games today and Game 3 on Sunday.

McNeese State topped Nicholls 8-3. Southeastern got the victory over Texas A&M Corpus Christi 10-4. UNO fell to Lamar 4-2. ULM lost to Troy 7-5.

At 4 PM, the third seeded LSU Lady Tigers take on second seeded Utah in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. LSU is led by six-foot-two All-American forward Angel Reese who is averaging 24 points and 16 rebounds a game. But Coach Kim Mulkey says they are not a one-person show…

Utah is one of the best offensive teams in the country, averaging 84 points a game.

Brandon Ingram had his first career triple-double last night and the Pelicans took care of the Hornets 115 to 96. New Orleans has won three straight to move into a tie for tenth place in the West and they begin a four-game road trip on Saturday against the Clippers.

Two teams ranked in the top five in college baseball square off in an SEC weekend series at Alex Box Stadium this weekend. Because of the threat of storms tonight. Game 1 of the series starts at noon and more rain is in the forecast for Sunday, so a doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday. Coach Jay Johnson says it’s important they get all three games in….

So on Saturday LSU will play Arkansas at 1 PM and the final game of the series will be at 6:30 that night.

The Ragin Cajuns are also playing a doubleheader at South Alabama on Saturday. Game one of their series starts tonight in Mobile at 6:30. ULM is at Troy this weekend. Both teams are 0-3 in Sun Belt play.

LSU Baseball’s SEC Home Opener against Arkansas has been moved up to noon today, because of the threat of severe weather later this afternoon and tonight. The Razorbacks come into Baton Rouge matching the Tigers 19-2 record after sweeping Auburn at home last weekend. Tigers Coach Jay Johnson knew Arkansas would be one of the best programs each year when he came to the SEC…

The  Pelicans return to action tonight as they fight for a spot in the postseason. Injuries to key players have dropped the Pels from second in the West in January to 12th half a game back from tenth the final spot in the play-in tournament and only 3 games separate the New Orleans and 4th place Suns. Pels coach Willie Green says the injuries have been frustrating, but they still have a chance at making the postseason….

The Pels and Hornets tip-off at 7:00 tonight

Game one of the LSU-Arkansas Baseball series has been moved up to 12:00 tomorrow in Alex Box Stadium. The game was originally scheduled for 7:00 bu has been moved up due to inclement weather forecasts. Officials are monitoring weather patterns to determine if any adjustments to the start times of games 2 and 3 are needed.

The Saints signed former first-round pick, safety Jonathan Abram. Abram suffered a shoulder injury with the Raiders after they drafted him in 2019 and started the season last  year in Las Vegas. He appeared in two games for Green Bay, and finished off the last six games of the season with Seattle. Abram said last year was a learning experience…

Northwestern State announced the hiring of new basketball head coach Rick Cabrera. Tallahassee Community College’s Cabrera takes over after first-year head coach Corey Gipson left the program to take the head coaching job at Austin Peay. This will be Cabrera’s first D-1 coaching position but he’s averaged nearly 25 wins a season and won three coach of the year awards with Tallahassee and Lackawanna College.

The Pelicans say All-Star forward Zion Williamson has been cleared to return to on-court activities as he continues to make his way back from a right hamstring strain. With ten games left in the regular season, Coach Willie Greene says it remains to be seen if Zion will play again this year…:

Williamson has not played in a game since January 2nd and he’s missed 35.

Former LSU tight end Foster Moreau said on Twitter Wednesday he found out during a visit with the New Orleans Saints that he has cancer. He said he’s been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and will be stepping away from football while he fights the battle.

Sean Woods is out as Southern University’s men’s basketball coach. The program announced the firing of Woods after his five-season tenure ended with a 54-81 overall record.

The Saints have signed veteran safety Johnathan Abram, who is a former first-round pick of the Raiders and last season played for Las Vegas, Green Bay, and Seattle. The former Mississippi State standout says he had a couple of teams interested in him…:

The Northwestern State men’s basketball team has named Tallahassee Community College’s Rick Cabrera as its new coach. Cabrera takes over after Corey Gipson left The Demons after one season to take another head coaching job.

Barbe High School head football coach Mike Cutrera has decided to retire. Cutrera has been the head coach of the Buccaneers since 2011 with an impressive district record of 54-20.

Davis told the Associated Press he feels cheated because the C-B-I did not include his team in its tournament, even though they had a losing record. Pistol Pete’s son, Jaeson Maravich points out that Davis had five years to break the record…

Jordan Thompson’s three-run homer in the fifth inning snapped a four-four tie. ULM defeated La Tech ten to six, and the Cajuns clobbered Grambling 13 to 1. U-L Lafayette hosts Southeastern Louisiana tonight.

At LSU Spring football, One of the biggest position battles is at cornerback as the Tigers have to replace both outside corners. Former five-star recruit Denver Harris will get a chance. Harris ran into off the field trouble at Texas A-and-M last season, but Coach Brian Kelly says so far Harris is doing well…

The top ranked LSU baseball team improved to 19-and-2 with a ten to four win over Central Arkansas at Alex Box Stadium last night. Jordan Thompson’s three-run homer in fifth inning snapped a four-four tie. ULM defeated La Tech ten to six, Houston ended McNeese’s seven game winning streak with a nine to six win, and the Cajuns clobbered Grambling 13 to 1.

LSU Wide receiver Malik Nabors is participating in spring football after charges were dropped against him for allegedly illegally carrying a weapon in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras. Coach Brian Kelly says Nabors has emerged as the leader of the wide receivers…

Antoine Davis says he feels cheated for not having an opportunity to break Pete Maravich’s NCAA scoring record. Davis ended up four points short and the C-B-I did not add his school, Detroit-Mercy, to its tournament so he can pass Pistol Pete. Maravich’s eldest son, Jaeson, is glad he didn’t get the chance…

Many felt Detroit-Mercy should be excluded from the C-B-I, because they had a losing record at 14-19.

Willis Reed, the New York Knicks Great, and Louisiana Legend died yesterday at the age of 80. Reed was instrumental in leading the Knicks to their only two championships. Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Chairman, Doug Ireland says after retiring, Reed returned to the place he called home – Lincoln Parish.

Jordan Thompson’s three-run homer in the fifth inning broke a four-four tie in the fifth inning and the top ranked Tigers went on to beat Central Arkansas ten to four last night. ULM beat Louisiana Tech at home for the first time since 2007 with a ten to six win. Kade Dupont drove in four runs. Julian Brock blasted two home runs in the fifth inning, including a grand slam, as the Cajuns defeated Grambling 13 to one.

The LSU football program has re-started spring football after taking a week off for spring break. It’s year number two for Coach Brian Kelly and he believes his team is in much better shape depth wise and he knows his team is bigger, faster and stronger. He says only one player ran faster than 20 miles per hour at the second spring practice last year, this year the number is nine…

The sports world is mourning the death of Willis Reed, the former two time NBA champion of the New York Knicks and Louisiana legend. Reed played basketball at Grambling State winning three SWAC titles and a NAIA national championship in 1961. After scoring 2,280 career points at Grambling, he was selected as the eighth overall pick in the 1964 NBA draft. Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Chairman Doug Ireland says Reed had incredible talent and his legacy will live forever.

Grambling retired his jersey in 2022.

The Pelicans easily defeated the short-handed Spurs 119 to 84 last night as Brandon Ingram had 32 points. With ten games left in the season, New Orleans is a half-game back for tenth place in the West, the final spot in the play-in tournament.

Willis Reed, a Louisiana and NBA legend, who won two championships with the New York Knicks, has passed away at the age of 80. Reed was born in Lincoln Parish, played college basketball at Grambling State in the early 1960s. During his senior season, he averaged 27 points and 21 rebounds a game. He led the Tigers to one NAIA title and three SWAC championships. Reed went on to have a hall of fame career in the NBA, even though he was undersized as a center. Reed won NBA titles with the Knicks in 1970 and 1973 and was nicked named the captain.

Expect the NBA to have a moment of silence for Reed before all of their games tonight. Tonight the Pelicans host the San Antonio Spurs. There are eleven games left in the season and New Orleans is 34 and 37 and a half game back of tenth place in the Western Conference, the final spot for the play-in tournament.

The top seed in LSU’s bracket lost in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament last night as Miami upset Indiana. The Lady Tigers face Utah Friday afternoon in Greenville, South Carolina.

After taking two of three from Texas A-and-M last weekend, LSU hosts Central Arkansas tonight. Coach Jay Johnson says the Bears will be a good test….

Central Arkansas beat Vanderbilt a month ago and last weekend swept North Alabama. First pitch is at 6:30.

Louisiana Tech and ULM meet for the 127th time tonight as the two teams will meet in Monroe. The Bulldogs have won 15 of the last 16 meetings and La Tech also leads the all-time series 75-51. Also tonight, McNeese takes a seven-game winning streak into Houston. And the Cajuns host Grambling.

The Saints have announced the signing of defensive back Lonnie Johnson. And New Orleans has also signed offensive tackle Storm Norton. Both players were reserves last year.
