The fifth-ranked LSU Tigers got a strong start from Ty Floyd and defeated Georgia eight to four to win the series versus the Bulldogs. Floyd fanned seven hitters in seven innings and allowed four runs. Freshman Gavin Guidry pitched two innings to earn the save. Tommy White hit his 19th home run of the season. The regular season finale is at noon today in Athens. LSU could win an SEC regular season title with a win today and an Arkansas loss.

Today at noon at Tiger Park, LSU will battle instate rival U-L Lafayette in a winner’s bracket game of the Baton Rouge Softball Regional. Yesterday, the Tigers trounced Prarie View A-and-M 12 to 2. Taylor Pleasants had three hits and drove in three runs.

The Cajuns blanked Omaha five to nothing to open up the Baton Rouge Regional. LSU and U-L Lafayette played each other twice during the regular season, the Cajuns won in Baton Rouge and the Tigers won in Lafayette.

The McNeese softball team moved into the winner’s bracket of the Seattle regional with a four-to-three win in 13 innings yesterday. The game took four hours and 14 minutes to complete. Whitney Tate earned the win in relief.

The Nicholls Baseball team is Southland regular season champs for the first time in program history as they defeated UNO 10-to-4 yesterday. Austin Cain clobbered a three-run homer to give the Colonels the lead for good in the third inning.

Big road win for the Ragin Cajuns last night as they defeated Southern Miss ten to one. Carson Fluno was fantastic as he struck out eleven in eight innings. U-L-M snapped a 12-game Sun Belt Conference losing streak with a six-to-one win over Texas State.

Other scores, Louisiana Tech fell to U-T-S-A five to three, Southeastern Louisiana over Northwestern State seven to five, Miami of Ohio upended McNeese 13 to six, and Grambling was a six to two winner over Prairie View.

The fifth ranked LSU baseball team goes for the series victory tonight against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Tigers won in dramatic fashion last night, eight to five in 12 innings. Josh Pearson’s first home run of the season broke a five-five tie. Jordan Thompson followed that up with his second home run of the year. Thatcher Hurd gave up two home runs in the ninth, but redemeed himself by not giving up a run in the 10th, 11 and 12th innings to get the win.

How many runs will be scored in Ruston tonight? Last night, U-T-S-A and Louisiana Tech combined to score 34 runs, but it was the Roadrunners who came out on top, winning 18=16 in 11 eleven innings.

The Ragin Cajuns would like to get on the scoreboard tonight. They were shuout by Southern Miss four to nothing last night. ULM looks to break a seven game losing streak as they face Texas State tonight.

Nicholls is at UNO and Northwestern is at Southeastern Louisiana looking to rebound from an extra inning loss last night.

At the NCAA Softball Regional in Baton Rouge, the Cajuns blanked Omaha five to nothing to advance to the winner’s bracket. Sam Landry was the winning pitcher and Karly Heath homered for the 15th time.

UL-Lafayette will play the winner of tonight’s game between LSU and Prairie View. The Tigers are the top seed and expected to win, which will set up a matchup between the Tigers and Cajuns at noon tomorrow. LSU and U-L Lafayette used to have a heated rivalry in softball, but Yvette Girouard, who coached at both schools, says it has calmed down over the years…

McNeese is also in the NCAA Softball tournament and will play Minnesota in Seattle at 5:30 PM. The Cowgirls have won 18 of their last 20 and they’ve won a school-record 44 games. The Golden Gophers are 37-and=17.

The fifth ranked LSU baseball team looked like they were heading to another crushing loss after giving up a two run lead in the ninth inning, but West Monroe’s Josh Pearson hit his first home run of the season in the 12th inning and Jordan Thompson hit his second home run of the night and the Tigers went on to beat Georgia 8-5 in 12 innings. The Tigers hit six home runs on the night, Dylan Crews, Brayden Jobert and Hayden Travinski also went yard. Paul Skenes started and struck out 12 in seven innings. Thatcher Hurd gave up two solo home runs in the ninth that sent the game into extra innings, but he was oustanding in the extra innings to get the win.

Wild game in Ruston last night as there were a total of 34 runs, 37 hits and six errors, but the Bulldogs came up short losing to UTSA 18-16. Dalton Davis drove in six runs in a losing effort and Jonathan Fincher gave up eight earned runs in his final start at J-C Love Field.

Grambling clinched its first SWAC Western Division Crown since 2017 with a six to three win over Prairie View A-and-M. Lorenzo Peterson was the winning pitcher as he struck out seven in eight innings.

UNO held off Nicholls seven to six, while Southeastern rallied to beat Northwestern State six to five in ten innings. The Colonels lead the Demons by one game for first place in the Southland.

ULM lost its seventh straight as they fell to Texas State six to five, Southern Miss shutout the Cajuns four to nothing.

The Baton Rouge NCAA Softball regional gets underway today. LSU is the top seed and the Cajuns are the second seed. U-L Lafayette has a good argument to host its own regional as they have a record of 46-13. Hall of Fame softball coach Yvette Girouard wishes LSU and U-L hosted their own regionals…

The LSU baseball team faces the Georgia Bulldogs tonight in game one of the final SEC series of the regular season. The Tigers have lost their last two series and have fallen from the top spot in the polls to fifth. An ineffective bullpen has been the main culprit, but former LSU Tiger pitcher Rick Greene says there’s still potential for this group to get its act straight…

LSU football announces Louisiana native and two-time All-Southland Conference defensive back Andre Sam has signed with the Tigers. Sam was at Marshall last season where he had 53 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss and an interception. At McNeese, Sam had 179 tackles and five interceptions in four years with the Cowboys. Sam played his high school ball at Iowa.

The Ragin Cajuns are at Southern Miss tonight. The Golden Eagles are co-leaders in the Sun Belt and U-L Lafayette is three games back. Coach Matt Deggs says his team isn’t phased by playing on the road…

Paul Skenes goes for win number eleven on the season tonight as the fifth ranked LSU Tigers open a series at Georgia. Skenes is 10-and-1 on the year with a 1.69 ERA. He’s also struck out 152 hitters in 79.2 innings. Skenes has been great but the rest of the LSU pitchers have had their struggles.

Former LSU pitcher Rick Greene says LSU’s hurlers are struggling to make the necessary adjustments. He says the defense is not helping either as the Tigers have committed 10 errors in their past six SEC games…

The fifth ranked LSU baseball team begins its final SEC regular season series tonight as they battle the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens. Tiger fans are concerned about the pitching. Tonight’s starter Paul Skenes has been outstanding, but every one else on the staff has been inconsistent or just down right bad. Former LSU pitcher Rick Greene says despite having a state-of-the-art pitching lab on campus, he’s not seeing the LSU pitchers making the necessary adjustments…

The UL-Lafayette baseball team will face Sun Belt-leading Southern Miss in the final series of the season starting tonight in Hattiesburg. The 35-15 Golden Eagles feature a veteran lineup returning from last year’s team that went to the Super Regionals. Cajuns Coach Matt Deggs says the preseason conference favorites have improved as the season’s gone on…

ULM will try to snap a six game losing streak at Texas State. Louisiana Tech closes out the regular season at UTSA. The Roadrunners are 19-and-7 in Conference USA and in second place. Nicholls leads the Southland conference with a 14-and-7 league record and they close out the regular season with three games against UNO.

LSU has signed transfer running back Logan Diggs from Notre Dame. The Boutte, Louisiana native started eight games as a sophomore, rushing for 822 yards and four touchdowns for the Fighting Irish last season. After averaging 5 yards a carry as a feature back in the Notre Dame offense, Diggs will reunite with his former coach this summer as perhaps the most talented Tiger running back, but The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander says he won’t take over the role…

The LSU Baseball team will begin their final regular season series in Georgia tomorrow night. In an essential series for the 4th-ranked Tigers looking to secure a top 8 national seed before the SEC tournament, the team announced sophomore left hander Javen Coleman will get the start on the mound for game 3. Coleman is 1-1 on the season with a 6.00 ERA.

The tenth-seeded LSU softball team will host the Baton Rouge Regional this weekend featuring the Sun-Belt Champion UL-Lafayette Cajuns, Summit League Champs Omaha, and SWAC Champion Prairie View A&M. The Tigers could possibly play the 46-13 Cajuns multiple times after splitting the two-game regular season series. Cajuns senior Karly Heath says her team felt slighted by the seeding…

The Saints finalized their preseason schedule today. They’ll kickoff week one against the Chiefs at noon August 13 followed by their annual trip to San Diego before returning back home to face the Texans.

McNeese has signed Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer to a new five year contract. The school’s athletics department has been the fastest growing in the Southland conference both financially and staffing under Schroyer.

The Tigers trailed 4-3 in the sixth inning when Cade Beloso and Hayden Travinski hit back-to-back homers. Griffin Herring allowed one run in three innings of relief to get the win. Thatcher Hurd got the save.

Former Rummel running back Logan Diggs has signed with LSU after spending the last two seasons at Notre Dame. Tigers running backs have struggled to stay on the field as John Emory, Armoni Goodwin, and Kaleb Jackson all missed time this Spring. The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander says Diggs will provide proven depth to a convoluted running back room…

The Saints and star defensive end Cam Jordan are reportedly discussing a two-year contract extension. The 34-year-old is entering the final season of a three-year contract. The eight-time Pro Bowler had 8.5 sacks last season and is the franchise’s all-time sacks leader, with 115.5.

After last night’s NBA draft lottery, the Pelicans will have the 14th pick in the first round, which is not a surprise. Division rival San Antonio won the first pick.

The U-L Lafayette softball team will head down I-10 later this week to compete in the Baton Rouge Regional. There’s disappointment in Lafayette that the Cajuns are not hosting a regional, but Coach Gerry Glasco is looking forward to spending the weekend in the capital city…

The former 2018 second round pick spent 4 productive years in Pittsburgh before missing most of last year with the Cowboys due to a foot injury. His best season came in 2019  when he had 735 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Head Coach Dennis Allen says Washington gives them a deep threat…

Former Rummel running back Logan Diggs has signed with LSU after spending the last two seasons at Notre Dame. He’ll reunite with his former coach in Baton Rouge this Summer.

Lafayette Christian star Ju’Juan Johnson committed to LSU less than a month after decommitting from Colorado. The 4-star recruit quarterbacked the Knights to it’s sixth consecutive championship game as a junior, and was named the Acadiana Advocate’s Star of Stars Athlete of the year last week. The 5-foot-11 standout is listed as an “athlete” on 247sports and will likely play cornerback in college.

The NBA Draft Lottery is tonight in one of the most highly anticipated drafts in recent decades thanks to top overall prospect Victor Wembenyama. The 7-foot-5 19 year old is rumored to be one of the top prospects to enter the draft in NBA history and his fate will most likely be decided by which team comes out with the top overall pick in tonight’s lottery. The Pelicans sit at 14th overall and the worst odds to land the number one pick after finishing 42-40 and losing in the first round of the play-in tournament. They’ll have a 0.5% chance at the top pick and a 2.4% chance of moving up to the top four with no way of ending in spots 5-through-13.

Fifth ranked LSU hosts McNeese in the home regular season finale tonight . The Tigers are coming off back to back losses to Mississippi State. In both games, the bullpen blew leads, including a nine run advantage on Sunday. Tigers Coach Jay Johnson says he has confidence pitching coach Wes Johnson can get his struggling pitching staff back on track…

It was announced today that ABC will televise the Tigers football season opener against Florida State. The game will take place at 6:30 on Sunday September 3rd in Orlando. And Lafayette Christian football star JuJuan Johnson has committed to LSU.

The Saints expect receiver Michael Thomas will be healthy for the start of training camp. The former All-Pro only played in three games last season due to a toe injury. He missed the entire 2021 campaign with an ankle injury that limited him to seven games in 2020. He has not caught more than 100 passes in a season since 2019, but G-M Mickey Loomis believes he can be a 100-catch receiver again…
