Ackenhausen threw a season-high six innings and struck out a season-high seven hitters. Riley Cooper picked up his second save as he threw three shut out innings, allowing just two hits and striking out one.

LSU was limited to five hits on Monday in a loss to Wake Forest, but the bats woke up last night in the five to nothing win to eliminate Tennessee. Center fielder Dylan Crews had two hits, including a two run homer. He also walked in the first inning and now has reached base 70 consecutive games…..

Tre Morgan also had a couple of knocks and Cade Beloso had a three hit night and drove in a run.

LSU gets another shot at Wake Forest tonight. The Tigers will have to beat the top seeded Demon Deacons twice in order to advance to the championship series of the College World Series. First pitch is at 6 PM.

With LSU’s crushing 3-2 loss to first-seeded Wake Forest yesterday, they’ll have to make it back from the losers bracket and win 3 consecutive games over the next three days for a spot in the championship series. While the odds may seem slim, Coach Jay Johnson has faith in his team’s ability to bounce back. In fact he says he’s seen it first hand, once in 2016 and again in 2017 by your very own Tigers…

Johnson’s Arizona team rallied to win three straight to advance to the finals before dropping a one-game lead to Coastal Carolina. In 2017, LSU won three straight after a 13-1 blowout at the hands of top-seeded Oregon St before losing two games to Florida in the championship series. 

The Tigers’ powerhouse offense struggled against Wake Forest producing 2 runs on just five hits, the lowest mark for this LSU team since their 3-0 victory over Auburn on May 5th and only the third time all season the Tigers have batted less than 6 hits. Their offense will again be put to the test tonight against Tennessee’s bullpen, but Johnson says his team is ready for the challenge…

Beam was named SEC freshman of the year last year and a preseason all-american. He’s 9-4 on the season with a 3.78 ERA and 79 strikeouts. The winner of the LSU-Tennessee matchup will go on to face Wake Forest while the loser says goodbye to Omaha. The Tigers and Vols are set to get underway at 6:00 tonight.

Tough, tough loss for the LSU Tigers last night in the College World Series as Wake Forest rallied back from a two to nothing deficit to beat the Bayou Bengals three to two. LSU failed to score with a runner at third base and no outs in the eighth inning, while the Demon Deacons pushed a run across in the bottom of the eighth and held on for the one run win. It’s unknown who will start on the mound for LSU. The Volunteers are expected to start Drew Beam. He was the SEC Freshman of the Year last season and this season he’s nine and four with a 3.78 ERA.

The critical play in last night’s three-two LSU loss to Wake Forest came in the eighth inning. LSU got the pitching it needed from Thatcher Hurd and Ty Floyd to beat Wake Forest last night in the College World Series, but they couldn’t come up with a clutch hit late in the game and lost to the Demon Deacons three to two.

Let’s go right to the play of the game, which happened in the eighth inning. The Volunteers won an elimination game yesterday to get another shot at LSU. Tennessee rallied from a four to nothing deficit to beat Stanford six to four. Relief pitcher Chase Burns struck out nine in six innings of relief.

Before LSU and Tennessee tangle at 6 PM tonight, Oral Roberts will take on TCU in another elimination game. The winner will have to beat Florida twice to reach the championship series.

On a positive note, LSU fans broke the College World Series Jello Shot challenge, which was set last year by Ole Miss fans. LSU fans have bought over 21-thousand jello shots at five bucks a piece. The Rebel fans bought nearly 19-thousand last year.

LSU faces Wake Forest in a winner’s bracket match-up in the College World Series tonigh at 6 PM. The Tigers are expected to send Ty Floyd to the mound tonight. The Demon Deacons are known as Rake Forest and they have hit 130 home runs, fifth most in the country. Wake Forecast is also ranked fourth nationally in on base percentage. Junior third baseman Brock Wilken has hit 31 home runs, while sophomore Nick Kurtz has 24 home runs.

LSU’s bullpen has been really good lately, allowing just one earned run over the last three games. Senior lefty Riley Cooper who earned the save on Saturday has been a big part of that. Coach Jay Johnson says Cooper has been pitching well since the SEC Tournament…

LSU right-hander Paul Skenes struck out 12 more hitters on Saturday and now has 200 on the season. He’s two behind LSU legend Ben McDonald for the SEC record in strikeouts for a season. Skenes was asked about being on the verge of breaking that record which has stood since 1989…

The earliest Skenes will be able to pitch again is Thursday. The Tigers would probably like to hold him until Saturday, the start of the championship series.

LSU is leading the College World Series Jell-O shot challenge in Omaha with 12,836 shots slurped down. And it’s not just the $5 Jell-O shots that fans are visiting Rocco’s Pizza for, Manager Pat McEvoy says having your photo taken with the board is also a rite of passage.

Obviously the focus for the LSU baseball program is what happens this week, but there’s also an eye to the future. The Tigers have received a commitment from left-hander Justin Loer, who put up good numbers at Xavier University this season. In 57 innings pitched, Loer had an ERA of 1.89.

In college baseball coaching news…former Southeastern Louisiana Coach Matt Riser has landed a new job as he’s the new head coach at Memphis. And former LSU coach Paul Mainieri will reportedly interview for the head coaching vacancy at Miami. Mainieri retired as LSU’s baseball coach following the 2021 season. Health was a big factor as he was dealing with neck pain. Mainieri played high school baseball in Miami and also attended Miami-Dade Community College.

Junior college tight end Connor Gilbreath has committed to LSU. He’s six-foot-five, 265 pounds and Gilbreath told ON3 sports that he expects offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock will use him as a blocking tight end.

LSU’s win over Tennessee on Saturday night sets up a sensational matchup tonight at 6 PM in the College World Series as the Bayou Bengals face the top-seeded Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Wake Forest has the nation’s best team ERA at 2.82, while LSU leads the country in runs scored at 594. Coach Jay Johnson credits his veteran hitters, who will need to be good tonight…

Wake Forest is expected to start Josh Hartle against the Tigers tonight. He’s a six-foot-five left-hander who is 11 and 2 with a 2,80 ERA. In his last start against Alabama in the Super Regionals, he allowed four runs in six innings, including three home runs.

LSU baseball has landed a left-handed pitcher out of the transfer portal. His name is Justin Loer and the Minnesota native had an ERA of 1.89 at Xavier this season. He helped the Muskateers reach the NCAA Nashsville Regional.

Former Southeastern Louisiana coach Matt Riser has found a new job. Riser is the new head coach at Memphis. Riser had a great ten-year run in Hammond, guiding the Lions to four NCAA Tournament berths and three Southland Conference titles. He was let go in May after S-L-U failed to make the Southland Tournament.

Skenes is also a good hitter but Coach Jay Johnson says having him focus on pitching has brought out the best in Skenes

The Saints completed mini-camp Thursday and now will take some time off until the start of training camp in late July. Coach Dennis Allen says looking ahead to camp there will be some position battles to watch

Griffin Merrett is hitting .315 with 18 home runs and 48 RBIs. As a team, Tennessee is hitting .284 with 125 home runs. LSU is hitting .314 with 133 home runs. First pitch tomorrow night is at 6 PM.

LSU football has received a commitment from a four star cornerback out of Tennessee. His name is Ondre Evans and he’s rated as the 20th best cornerback in the country according to 24-7 sports. Evans also considered Georgia and Alabama.

The Saints concluded their mandatory three-day minicamp yesterday and the players will not be back until training camp starts in about five weeks. New starting quarterback Derek Carr has looked good in the offseason workouts. Coach Dennis Allen is glad Carr will be leading the Black and Gold’s offense…

The Saints have added a couple of veteran wideouts. Lynn Bowden and Keke Coutee who participated in the minicamp on a tryout basis. Bowden and Coutte also have the ability to return punts.

Former Louisiana Tech star Teresa Weatherspoon is out as an assistant coach for the Pelicans. She’s been with the franchise since 2019 and had a close relationship with Zion Williamson.
