The top two scoring teams in the Southeastern Conference meet today at 5 PM as 13th ranked LSU visits 20th ranked Ole Miss. Both teams are averaging 42 points a game. But Ole Miss has yet to get its top running back going, Quinshon Judkins. Coach Brian Kelly says he knows Judkins is a talented back that’s capable of having a big night….

A win for LSU and they improve to 3-0 in the SEC. The Rebels are trying to avoid a second consecutive loss.

 

Louisiana Tech won on the road last night for the first time since 2020 as the Bulldogs defeated U-TEP 24-10. Jack Turner threw for 152 yards and a touchdown, while Tyre Shelton rushed for 104 yards and a score. Tech is 2-and-0 in Conference USA.

The Ragin Cajuns look to pull off the upset later this morning as they visit Minnesota. ULM hosts Appalachian State to begin Sun Belt Play. Nicholls and McNeese meet in Lake Charles to begin Southland play. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season. Northwestern State hosts Eastern Illinois, while Southeastern Louisiana hosts Tarleton State and Tulane takes on U-A-B in New Orleans.

 

In high school football last night, Calvary Baptist defeated Westgate 32-22. Ruston edged Neville 14-10, Oak Grove over Mangham 28-12 and Edna Karr beat Brother Martin 19-7.

 

Saints Quarterback Derek Carr is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carr practiced for the first time this week yesterday, but he was limited by a shoulder injury. Former LSU star and Buccaneers linebacker Devin White is also questionable as he has a foot injury.

Louisiana Tech jumps back into Conference USA play tonight as they travel to the Sun Bowl to face the UTEP Miners in El Paso, Texas. Tech enters the game with a 2-3 record, while the Miners are 1-4 after losing to UNLV last weekend. Second year Bulldogs Coach Sonny Cumbie says UTEP is better than what its record shows…

The Ragin Cajuns are making a long road trip as they will face Minnesota in Minneapolis on Saturday at 11 AM. U-L Lafayette has 18 sacks on the season, which leads the nation and defensive tackle Marcus Wiser returns for this game after serving a one-year suspension for using a prohibited over-the-counter substance.

The 13th ranked LSU football team leaves today for the Magnolia State where they’ll play 20th ranked Ole Miss tomorrow. The game features the top two scoring offenses in the Southeastern Conference. Ole Miss will try to get its running game going. 2022 SEC Freshman of the Year, Quinshon Judkins has only rushed for 201 yards in four games after rushing for 15-hundred yards last year.

The Saints are hoping the return of running back Alvin Kamara from a three game suspension will jump start their offense. New Orleans ranks 20th in the league in total offense, 25th in scoring, averaging just 18 points per game. Kamara says it will take a collective effort to get the offense going…

Louisiana Tech returns to Conference USA play by visiting UTEP at 8 PM tonight on the C-B-S Sports Network. The Bulldogs have not won a game on the road since December 2020. Offensive lineman Abe Delfin believes the streak comes to an end tonight….

The Ragin Cajuns are at Minnesota on Saturday. It’s the fourth meeting between the two schools and the Golden Gophers have won every time.

ULM kicks off Sun Belt play by hosting Appalachian State. It’s the seventh time the two schools have faced each other and the Mountaineers have won the last three meetings and six of seven overall.

Nicholls and McNeese kick-off Southland play with a 7 PM kick off in Lake Charles. Both teams are winless. The Cowboys had a two touchdown lead over Eastern Illinois in the fourth quarter and lost. Eastern Illinois is at Northwestern State tomorrow.

Kelly says redshirt freshman receiver Aaron Anderson injured his hamstring at practice yesterday and they’ll have to see how he responds before determining if he’ll be able to play.

High school football last night, Ouachita Christian clobbered Ouachita Parish 48-14, Union Parish over Franklin Parish 55-33, Byrd beat Benton 61-34. And it was Patterson over Franklin 14 to 8 in overtime.

The 13th ranked LSU football team will leave tomorrow for the Magnolia State where they’ll meet up with Ole Miss. The Tigers are allowing their opponents to convert 44-percent of the time on third down, but Ole Miss offensively is also struggling on third down conversions.

That running back’s name is Darius Taylor, a true freshman from Detroit. Taylor has rushed for 532 yards and four touchdowns. He’s averaging six yards a carry.

A LHSAA member meeting will take place Tuesday to give high school principals an opportunity to decide if they want to keep the current definition of a select school. A ruling by a judge earlier this year prohibits the LHSAA from using the current definition unless there’s a majority vote from member schools approving it. Leaders from 203 schools must attend Tuesday’s meeting in order for a vote to take place.

The LSU defense has struggled early on this year, but one bright spot for the Tigers has been freshman linebacker Whit Weeks. The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame 2024 class has been decided as Drew Brees, Seimone Augustus, and Daniel Cormier highlight the ballot. There was no question if these legendary sports figures would be in the Louisiana Hall of Fame but when as the three athletes have shattered expectations and reached the pinnacle of their sports. The 2024 class will be enshrined in Natchitoches, Louisiana as a part of the 65th induction ceremony.

ULL will have a true road test this Saturday when the ragin cajuns take on the Golden Gophers in Minneapolis. One major change in their game plan will be at quarterback as Zeon Chriss will get the start. The Saints released veteran receiver Tre’Quan Smith on Tuesday afternoon. Smith had been with the Black and Gold since they drafted him in the 3rd round in the 2018 draft, but has had trouble staying healthy as the receiver has spent time in the Saints injury reserve almost every year. Head coach Dennis Allen says that the move gives Smith the opportunity to play for someone else and says that he still feels good about the group of guys in their receiving core.

Saints Q-B Derek Carr did not practice yesterday as New Orleans got to work in preparing for Sunday’s home game against Tampa Bay. But Coach Dennis Allen is leaving the door open for Carr to play this Sunday, if his sprained shoulder allows for it. Running back Alvin Kamara is back at practice as his three-game suspension is over.

LSU’s defense has struggled this season, but freshman linebacker Whit Weeks has been a bright spot. His first start was against Mississippi State and in the two games he’s started, Weeks has collected 17 tackles. A couple of legends will go into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2024. Former Saints quarterback Drew Brees and former LSU women’s basketball player Seimone Augustus headline the nine person class that also includes mix martial arts icon Daniel Cormier and former high school football coach Frank Monica.

History will be made tonight in Baton Rouge as for the first time in Louisiana, the officiating crew for a high school football game will be all females. Baton Rouge Area Football Officials Association Assignment Secretary Louis Metivia hopes this will result in more females wanting to officiate high school sports…

The LHSAA will hold a meeting in Baton Rouge next Tuesday to allow high schools to vote on what defines a select school. Once we get a definition then we’ll know what the high school football playoff brackets will look like.

The LSU Tigers will return to Mississippi for the 2nd time this September in order to face the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday in a top 20 SEC West matchup. The Rebels struggled to rush the ball in their loss to Alabama last week, only gaining 1.9 yards per carry as a team. The Saints find themselves in an unpredictable situation as the second-worst fourth quarter in their history has the team 2 and 1 instead of 3 and 0. New Orleans understands that the way it played was not up to par and are eager to get back on the gridiron. The Saints will host NFC South division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday. The game will result in a contested battle where both teams have something to prove after the Buccaneers were embarrassed at the line of scrimmage at home against the Eagles.

Ole Miss would like to get its running game going against LSU. The 2022 SEC Freshman of the Year, Quinshon Judkins, is averaging just 3.5 yards a carry.

The Saints have reportedly released veteran receiver Tre’Quan Smith. Smith was on injured reserve and he’s dealt with several injuries since he was selected in the third round in the 2018 NFL draft. Smith caught 131 passes and scored 18 touchdowns during his time in New Orleans.

The national champion LSU women’s basketball team has returned to the hardwood as they have started practices for the 2023-24 season. The Lady Tigers return All-American Angel Reese and brought in two big time transfers, Haily Van Lith and Aneesah Morrow. Several role players return from last year’s team. Coach Kim Mulkey says this is a much different team than what she had last year…

The LSU men’s basketball team has also started practice for the upcoming season, but Jalen Cook is not on the floor. Cook started his career at LSU, transferred to Tulane and has transferred back to LSU. Since he’s transferred twice, he’s waiting on a waiver from the NCAA. Cook averaged 19 points and four assists in two seasons with the Green Wave.
