In other action tonight….The Ragin Cajuns are at Arkansas State to begin Sun Belt play. ULM hosts Troy and a scuffling Louisiana Tech team will host Northwestern State for three games at J-C Love Field.

The Saints have signed a couple of wide receivers. Cedric Wilson joins the Black and Gold after spending the last two seasons in Miami. He caught 22 passes last year and had three touchdowns. The Saints have also announced the signing of Stanley Morgan, who is a New Orleans native and a St. Aug alum. He was a special teams standout with the Bengals.

The second-ranked LSU baseball team begins SEC play tonight as they visit the Mississippi State Bulldogs for a three-game set in Starkville. The Tigers are 16-and-2 and the strength has been their starting pitching. LSU’s pitching staff has compiled 234 strikeouts and that leads the nation. Coach Jay Johnson expects his guys to keep throwing strikes

The Bulldogs are 13-and-5 and first pitch is at 6 PM.

Sun Belt play also gets underway this weekend, the Cajuns are at Arkansas State and ULM hosts Troy. The Trojans are 12 and 6, while the Warhawks are 11-and-6. Also this weekend, Northwestern State is at La Tech.

Plans are moving forward for a new arena on LSU’s campus to replace the PMAC. Colleen Crain has more….

The Saints are reportedly signing Nathan Peterman to be a backup quarterback. New Orleans has also reportedly agreed to a contract with free agent wide receiver Cedric Wilson Junior. Wilson has spent five seasons in the NFL and caught 22 passes for the Dolphins last year.

The McNeese Cowboys are headed to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament after winning the Southland Tourney by beating Nicholls. Shahada Wells earned most valuable player honors for the tournament as he had 27 points and six assists in the win over the Colonels. Wells is excited to lead McNeese to its third ever NCAA Tournament appearance

LSU’s stay in the SEC Tournament is a short one as they lost to Mississippi State 70-60. The Tigers led by seven at halftime but LSU shot just 31-percent from the field in the second half and were out rebounded 24-to-12. Hunter Dean had 10 points…

The Ragin Cajuns will begin Sun Belt play at Arkansas State. U-L Lafayette defeated Louisiana Tech nine to five last night. The Bulldogs have lost five of their last six. They will host Northwestern State at J-C Love Field this weekend.

The Tech men’s basketball team was eliminated last night in the Conference Tournament, but the Lady Techsters advanced to the semi finals after beating Jacksonville State 60-54.

The second ranked LSU baseball team is heading to Starkville where they’ll play Mississippi State to begin SEC Play this weekend. The Tigers blanked North Dakota State seven to zip yesterday and Mac Bingham moved up to the leadoff spot and got on base three times, including his second home run of the year.

Duncan Pastore had three hits as the Ragin Cajuns defeated Louisiana Tech nine to five.

All SEC Selection Josh Hubbard is averaging 17 points to lead State. He scored 32 against the Tigers earlier this season and hit six three-pointers in a 20-point win over LSU.

Louisiana Tech beat Middle Tennessee twice in the regular season, but were upset by the Blue Raiders last night in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament. Disappointing end to the Bulldogs season that saw them go 22-10 this season.

And the Pelicans lost to the Cavaliers 116 to 95 despite 33 points from Zion Williamson.

That’s Coach Will Wade who turned around a losing program in just one season. Yesterday’s win over the Colonels improved McNeese’s record to 30-3. They’ll find out their NCAA Tournament destination on Sunday.

Louisiana Tech’s season came to an abrupt halt last night as the Bulldogs were upset by Middle Tennessee in the Conference USA Tournament 70-67. Tech shot just 34 percent from the field in the second half.

Grambling won its quarterfinal contest in the SWAC Tournament with a 56-50 win over Alabama State. The Tigers will play either Southern or Bethune Cookman in the semifinals.

The Saints and receiver Michael Thomas have officially ended their relationship. New Orleans waived Thomas making him a post-June 1st transaction, which means they must carry his 12-million dollar salary cap hit until June 2nd. After winning the NFL offensive player of the year in 2019, Thomas couldn’t stay healthy.

The Saints have restructured Ryan Ramczyk’s contract which will result in a pay cut for the offensive tackle. The move cleared about 14-million dollars in cap space.

The LSU men’s basketball team will face Mississippi State at noon today in the SEC Tournament. Tigers Coach Matt McMahon says the Bulldogs do a good job of holding their opponents to less than 70 points a game…

A new NFL league year got underway today and the Saints announced the signing of free agent linebacker Willie Gay, who won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs. In four seasons in Kansas City, Gay had 233 tackles, five sacks, four interceptions, 19 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. New Orleans also announced they’ve resigned fullback Adam Prentice. He’ll complete with Zander Horvath for a roster spot.

And the Saints have officially ended their relationship with Michael Thomas. It goes down as a post June 1st cut, so his cap hit will be spread out over the next two seasons.

The Pelicans have won four in a row and they begin a three game homestand tonight by hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs are in third place in the Eastern Conference and they have a 19-11 record on the road.

Louisiana Tech is the two seed in the Conference USA Tournament and they’ll face Middle Tennessee tonight in Huntsville, Alabama. The Bulldogs just beat the Blue Raiders in Ruston to close out the regular season.

Grambling is the top seed in the SWAC Tournament and they’ll take on Alabama State tonight at 8:30. Southern is the four seed and they’ll face Bethune Cookman tomorrow night.

We know there will be at least one Louisiana team in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. McNeese and Nicholls are facing each other in the Southland Tournament Championship game. The winner gets an automatic invite to the Big Dance. It was one year ago today that Will Wade was introduced as the new head coach of the Cowboys.

Second ranked LSU baseball got more great pitching last night and defeated North Dakota State six to one. Justin Loer was the winning pitcher and Javen Coleman got the save. They play again at 4 PM.

Ole Miss defeated ULM five to three, Northwestern State downed Louisiana Tech 11 to 5 and McNeese outlasted Southern four to three in 14 innings.

The second ranked LSU softball team is now 23-0 after beating third ranked Texas on Tuesday seven to four. Sydney Berzon went the distance in the circle for her ninth win of the year. She allowed four runs but Coach Beth Torina had confidence Berzon would not relinquish the lead…

And it will be McNeese versus Nicholls in the Southland Men’s Basketball Championship today at 4 PM. The Colonels needed overtime to defeat A-and-M Corpus Christi last night.

The Saints have finallly tipped their toe into the free agency pool by signing Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay to a one-year five-million dollar contract. The 26-year-old has won two Super Bowls with Kansas City and is known for his speed and playmaking ability. He has four interceptions and four fumble recoveries during his four year career.

The new league year begins later today in the NFL and Ross Jackson, host of the Saints Locked on Podcast, expects New Orleans to get more active in free agency…

Quarterback Jameis Winston is moving on from the Saints. The 30-year-old has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns that will pay him eight million dollars. Winston has been in New Orleans in 2020, mostly as a back-up. Locked on Saints Podcast Host Ross Jackson says the Black and Gold knew Winston wanted a chance at starting….

The Saints will now need to find a veteran to serve as primary backup to Derek Carr. So far New Orleans has been quiet in free agency, while other teams are signing players.

Saints defensive tackle Malcolm Roach has signed with the Denver Broncos. The Baton Rouge native spent four seasons in New Orleans, appearing in 41 games as a rotational defensive tackle.

Former LSU star Patrick Queen is leaving the Baltimore Ravens for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Queen has reportedly agreed on a three-year, 41 million dollar contract. And the Saints are a one of few teams interested in meeting with free agent pass rusher Chase Young.

The second ranked LSU softball team remained unbeaten today with a seven to four win over third ranked Texas. Kelley Lynch had a huge bases clearing double in a five run first inning and Sydney Berzon was the winning pitcher.

In college baseball today….LSU hosts North Dakota State, ULM faces Ole Miss at Lou St. Amant Field and Louisiana Tech travels to Northwestern State.

One of LSU’s most popular athletes will likely compete for the final time on the LSU campus Friday night. Olivia Dunne and the 2nd ranked LSU gymnastics squad host North Carolina for Senior night. Dunne only competed in four meets last year because of injuries, but she says a more focused approach to all of her responsibilities has led to better results

Quarterback Jameis Winston is leaving New Orleans for Cleveland. Winston has reportedly signed a one-year, eight million dollar contract with the Browns to serve as the backup quarterback to Deshaun Watson. The 30-year-old Winston has spent the last four seasons with the Saints. This past season he only completed 53-percent of his passes for 264 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Saints have yet to sign any free agents, but they’ve added another year to linebacker Demario Davis contract. The 12-year NFL vet and team captain has signed a two-year contract with New Orleans. Davis was a Pro-Bowl selection last season.

The Atlanta Falcons have been busy. They’ve agreed to a four-year contract with quarterback Kirk Cousins, giving the Dirty Birds an upgrade at the Q-B position. Atlanta has also reportedly signed receiver Darnell Mooney to a three-year, 39-million dollar contract. The former Tulane star is coming off a down year in Chicago.

The second ranked LSU baseball team will get ready for the start of SEC play by hosting North Dakota State over the next two days. The Bison are just 3-and-11 on the season.

ULM will host Ole Miss tonight. The Warhawks are coming off a sweep over Alabama A-and-M. Northwestern State will host Louisiana Tech.

At the Southland Conference men’s basketball tournament last night, Lamar eliminated UNO 71 to 57. Top seeded McNeese will face Lamar at 5:30 today. Nicholls defeated Texas A-and-M Commerce 72 to 52. The Colonels get Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi at 8 PM in Lake Charles.

Friday night it’s Senior Night for the 2nd ranked LSU gymnastics squad. Olivia Dunne will be recognized during senior night activities and the 21-year-old, who battled injuries last year, admits this has been her favorite year….

The third ranked LSU softball team is undefeated headed into today’s huge matchup with top ranked Texas. The Longhorns lead the nation in hitting and they rank fifth in team team ERA. First pitch is at 11 AM.

The Saints have added another year to linebacker Demario Davis’ contract. The 35-year-old made his second straight Pro Bowl last year. Meanwhile, linebacker Zack Baun is leaving the Saints as he’s reportedly signed with the Eagles. New Orleans is interested in signing Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox.

Olivia Dunne’s time as an LSU gymnast is likely coming to an end. She will be recognized during Senior night ceremonies when the second ranked Tigers take on North Carolina on Friday night. Last summer, Dunne started the Livvy fund, to help other LSU female athletes land NIL deals with some of the top brands. She’s proud of the legacy she’s leaving behind
