The LSU football team reports for preseason camp today. This is Brian Kelly’s 35th season as head coach and 3rd in Baton Rouge. Kelly says NIL deals and revenue sharing won’t change how he recruits, in fact he’s looking to hire a salary cap manager to handle player NIL evaluations…

LSU flipped three-star South Carolina commit Jaiden Braker. The South Gwinnett linebacker has been pledged to the Gamecocks since July 6 but now joins the Tigers’ star-studded 2025 class following a visit to LSU’s Bayou Splash event. Braker is the No. 74 ranked linebacker in the class and helps LSU’s 19 commits to the third -ranked spot in the country.

Former LSU swimmer Brooks Curry won silver in Paris as part of Team USA’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay team. It becomes the second Olympic medal of Curry’s career after winning gold in the same event in Tokyo three years ago.

Saints training camp is in full swing and new addition defensive end Chase Young has been dominant after making his return from a neck injury. The 2020 second-overall pick says the Saints have a strong group of pass rushers…

Wide receiver Chris Olave returned today after leaving yesterday’s practice early with a hip injury. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore watched from the sidelines as he remains out with an injured hip flexor. Defensive tackle Bryan Bresee and tight end Juwon Johnson were seen doing individual work off to the side.

Team USA earned their second Olympic victory in a 103-86 win over South Sudan behind an 18-point performance from Bam Adebayo off the bench and a strong team defensive effort.

The US women’s national soccer team secured a 2-1 win over Australia to secure first place in group B and advance to the Olympic quarterfinals against Japan.

New Saints defensive end Chase Young has looked good in his limited reps during team drills at training camp. New Orleans is bringing Young along slowly after undergoing offseason neck surgery. Cam Jordan and Carl Granderson are penciled in as the starters at defensive end, but Coach Dennis Allen was asked if Young could play himself into the starting lineup…

Today we will hear from Young as the Saints are making him available to the media. The Saints top wide receiver, Chris Olave, suffered a hip injury towards the end of practice. Following practice, Allen did not have enough information to provide an update.

Defensive tackle and cornerback remain big question marks for LSU heading the season.

LSU linebacker Harold Perkins has been named to the preseason watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which goes to the nation’s top defender.

And Ragin Cajuns left guard AJ Gillie is one of 75 players named to the Outland Trophy preseason watch list. That award goes to the top returning interior lineman.

Louisiana Tech will resume playing Southern Miss in football, but not until 2029. The two schools have agreed to a four-game series starting in 2029. The programs have met 53 times since 1935 and the last meeting was in 2021, when they faced each other as Conference USA rivals.

He and 2021 second-round pick Pete Werner are expected to compete for playing time alongside Demario Davis in New Orleans’ two-linebacker scheme, but Gay says their performance might change things…

Former LSU star Paul Skenes got a no decision in Pittsburgh’s five to three win over Houston last night. Skenes went six innings, allowed one earned run and struck out six. He now has 103 strikeouts in 13 starts in the Major Leagues.

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and wide receiver Kyren Lacy have been named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the most outstanding player in college football. Joe Burrow is the only one to win the award from LSU.

Grambling State quarterback Myles Crawley has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2024 Stats Perform Walter Payton Award. The redshirt-senior from Georgia threw for 23-hundred yards and 16 touchdowns. Nicholls running back Jaylon Spears is also on the Walter Payton Award preseason watch list. The former Brother Martin star had over 13-hundred all-purpose yards and nine touchdowns last season.

Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss have agreed to play each other in football four times from 2029 to 2033. The first game will be in Ruston on September 15th, 2029. The two schools were previously rivals in Conference USA.

Former LSU beach volleyball stars Kristen Nuss and Tayrn Kloth improved to 2-and-0 in pool play at the Paris Olympics with a 21-16, 21,16 win over Australia. The number two seeded team in Olympic tournament will conclude pool play on Thursday afternoon against China.

Former LSU star Paul Skenes received a no-decision in last night’s start against Houston. Skenes allowed one earned run in six innings and struck out six, including former LSU star Alex Bregman. But Bregman also got a hit off of Skenes. Pittsburgh ended up winning the game five to three.

A pair of former LSU stars will face off tonight as the Pirates visit the Astros. Houston’s Alex Bregman is batting .254 on the season with 14 homers and 51 RBI. He’ll try to get the better of Pirates rookie sensation Paul Skenes. Skenes has a 1.93 ERA with 97 strikeouts.

The Pelicans signed center Trey Jemison off waivers over the weekend. Jemison spent last season with the Wizards and Grizzlies where he averaged nearly 7 points and 5 rebounds in 25 games.

Nicholls senior offensive lineman Evan Roussel headlines the second-team offense for the Colonels. Nicholls Junior Jaylon Spears earned the second-team All Purpose spot.

Former LSU Beach Volleyball stars Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss will return to action today at 3:00 against Australia. They won their last match against the Canadians 2 sets to none. The Australian duo is the only other undefeated team left in the four-team pool after winning their first match against China 2-1. Today’s winner will take sole possession of first with one match remaining. The top two finishers at the conclusion of pool play will earn a guaranteed spot in the knockout rounds.

The US currently leads the Olympic medal race with 12 total, but their 3 golds rank 5th at the games.
