Out of the world stuff from Lafayette’s Mondo Duplantis at the Paris Olympics. The former LSU track star set an Olympic and world record with a pole vault of 20 feet and six inches. But former LSU beach volleyball stars Taryn Cloth and Kristen Nuss were eliminated from medal contention when they lost to a team from Canada.

LSU football comes in at number 12 in the preseason coaches poll. The Tigers will look a lot different this season with junior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier at the helm. Star offensive tackle Will Campbell says he can’t wait to see “Nuss” light up the SEC this season…

Campbell is also expecting to see improved production from running backs, who will have the opportunity to run behind an experienced offensive line.

One of the big changes for Louisiana Tech in the offseason was the hirting of defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson from Northern Iowa. In 11 seasons at Northern Iowa, Johnson’s defense ranked in the FCS top 10 in turnovers six times. Senior defensive back Cedric Woods says he and the defense are looking to disrupt opposing offenses…

Saints backup quarterback Jake Haener was not at practice yesterday, which gave Spencer Rattler an opportunity to show what he could do and according to media rep0orts, Rattler has shown significant improvement during camp. Also, the connection between Derek Carr and Chris Olave looks improved as those two head into their second year playing together.

LSU was ranked No. 12 in the US LBM preseason coaches poll today. With nine of the top 20 teams coming from the SEC, the Tigers have a tough year ahead of them. If they hope to contend for a spot in the 12-team playoffs, their defense will have to improve from a season ago. Former LSU beach volleyball duo Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss’s Olympic journey ended today. Team TKN lost two close sets to Canada after losing only one set through three matches of pool play. One American duo in each of the men’s and women’s tournament advanced to the quarter finals.

Former LSU pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis claimed his second Olympic gold today and third straight world championship with an Olympic and world record-setting 6.25 meter vault. The Swedish vaulter owns the last nine world records

LSU sprinter Favour Ofili made her Olympic debut in the 200-meter for Nigeria. She qualified for tomorrow’s 200-meter final third in the field with a season-best 22.05-second time.

One highlight of Saints training camp has been the battle for backup quarterback between Jake Haener and rookie Spencer Rattler. Rattler says he’s fit into Offensive Coordinator Klint Kubiak’s system well after his time at South Carolina…

LSU track stars brought home hardware in somewhat disappointing results at the Olympics this weekend. Sprinter Sha‘Carri Richardson took home silver in the Women’s 100-meter as the gold medal favorite while Vernon Norwood and Team USA earned silver in the 4×400-meter relay after setting a world record in qualifiers.

Saints training camp in Irvine, California continues as New Orleans prepares to play their first preseason game this Saturday against the Cardinals. There are lots of question marks on both sides of the ball for the black and gold roster this offseason, but perhaps the biggest is the interior defensive line. Last year’s first-round pick, defensive tackle Bryan Bresee had a strong rookie season and says he’ll be better this year…

The Greater New Orleans Little League team fell 4-1 to Boerne, Texas in the winner’s bracket final of the Little League World Series Southwest Regional yesterday. They’ll move to the loser’s bracket to play Richmond, Texas today at 2:00 for a chance at a winner-take-all rematch against Boerne tomorrow night. Both games will be televised on ESPN.

Former LSU track star Sha’Carri Richardson dominated in her Olympic debut yesterday as she easily won the opening heat of the women’s 100 meter dash with a 10.94-second time. Richardson won the World Championship in the event in 2023 and is the favorite to win gold in Paris. She’ll race in the semi-final today at 12:50 with a chance to move on to the final scheduled for 2:20 this afternoon.

7 other former Tigers and six from the 2024 track and field team will be competing in the athletics events at the Paris Olympics over the next two weeks. Reigning Olympic and World Champion pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis will represent Sweden. He competed in qualifying early this morning and the medal round is set for Monday.

the US 3×3 women’s basketball team featuring former Tiger Hailey Van Lith has won their last three games to keep their gold medal hopes alive with back-to-back one point victories over France and Canada yesterday. The Americans struggled early losing their first three citing a lack of chemistry without much time playing together. They’ll face China today at 12:05. A win can secure a spot in the play-in round and give the trio a chance at automatically qualifying for the knockout rounds.

Construction at Alex Box Stadium is underway on the premium field level seating and bullpen relocation project scheduled to complete this fall. The Field Level Loges will add 52 and 106 seats along the left and right field lines respectively in the form of 36 four-person loges and 14 individual seats. Premium seating features in-seat food and beverage service and a built-in ice chest. The Tigers bullpen will be moved to beneath the right-field bleachers. Fans may request the new Field Level Loges now for the 2025 season, and the seats will be allocated based upon Tiger Athletic Foundation Philanthropic Priority Point rankings as of October 31.

LSU Eunice Baseball officially kicked off construction of a new stadium with a groundbreaking celebration yesterday. LSUE Chancellor Dr. Nancee Sorenson says the stadium represents exciting new things for the Baseball Bengals and the school as a whole.

The Tigers kicked off preseason football practice yesterday. One of the biggest questions of camp will be who starts alongside cornerback Zy Alexander. Sophomore Javien Toviano appeared in every game last season and was reinstated after being suspended July 21 following an arrest on charges of video voyeurism. Freshman PJ Woodland is another possible candidate. Coach Brian Kelly says they are looking for consistent play from their corners…

Two LSU Tigers who suffered season-ending knee injuries last season were on the practice field for the first day of preseason camp. Cornerback Zy Alexander returned after tearing his ACL on October 21st. Head coach Brian Kelly says he and running back John Emery will use the first few days of camp to see how their repaired knees respond…

The Tigers reinstated cornerback Javien Toviano after suspending the 19-year-old from football activities following his arrest on charges of video voyeurism. The sophomore was arrested July 21 when he surrendered to authorities accused of recording himself having sex with a woman without her consent, according to an arrest warrant. Toviano will compete for a starting corner spot after appearing in every game last season and starting three of the last five.

The Tigers kicked off preseason camp yesterday and Two players who suffered season-ending knee injuries last season were back on the field. Running back John Emery sustained a torn ACL against Florida on November 11th. Emery is among four scholarship running backs available to carry the football. Coach Brian Kelly says they’ll use camp to see what Emery can do…

Emery played most of his snaps with the second-team while graduate student josh Williams got the starting reps.

LSU beach volleyball alumni Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss won their final match of pool play at the Olympics against China two sets to one. After losing the first set and battling through the Paris rain and a weather delay, the world’s second-ranked duo improved to 3-and-0 at the games to secure first in their pool and a spot in the single-elimination round of 16 on Sunday.

The Saints signed wide receiver Marquez Callaway. Callaway started his NFL career in New Orleans as an undrafted free agent and had an opportunity as the Black and Gold’s No. 1 wideout in 2021 racking up almost 700 yards and 6 touchdowns. He left for Denver with his former coach Sean Payton and returns as the Saints struggle with wide receiver injuries during training camp. The team had the day off yesterday and will return to practice today. Preseason play kicks off against Arizona August 10.

The UL-Lafayette football team begins fall camp today in the third year under Head Coach Mike Desormeaux. After back-to-back 6-and-7 seasons, Desormeaux says he’s fielding the most complete team he’s had yet. He says the Cajuns need to compete each day and win close games…

The LSU football team kicked off fall training camp today. The defense has been a big concern for LSU fans and staff alike. The Tigers overhauled the defensive coaching staff this offseason starting with new coordinator Blake Baker. Kelly says his young secondary has improved and expect new contributors on the defensive front…

Linebacker Harold Perkins headlines the defense and was named to the Nagurski Award preseason watchlist for the best defensive player in college football. LSU’s season will kickoff September 1 in Las Vegas against USC.

LSU flipped three-star linebacker Jaiden Braker from South Carolina. Braker has been pledged to the Gamecocks since July 6 but now joins the Tigers’ star-studded 2025 class following a visit to LSU’s Bayou Splash event.

McNeese linebacker Micah Davey was 1 of 30 players named to the preseason watchlist for the Buck Buchanan award for the best defensive player in D-1 FCS football. Davey led the nation in tackles last season and was a finalist as the FCS top defensive player. He joins Nicholls defensive back Tyler Morton.

The Louisiana Tech football team began fall practice yesterday as they look to improve after three straight 3-and-9 seasons. The Bulldogs welcomed new Defensive Coordinator Jeremiah Johnson in December to help improve the last-ranked defense in Conference USA last season. Defensive lineman Mykol Clark thinks LA Tech can have the best defense in the league this year, and the energy in the locker room feels different…
